Ohh this is so cool, Sammo Hung was involved in the making and fight choreography of the first part and then finally appeared in Ip Man 2. Man's a legend, worked on so many Jackie Chan movies from the 80s and 90s 👌🏽😊
Translation : I assume you all know I am a fan of Bruce Lee. and his teacher/master Ip Man. Martial Arts has its influence all over the globe and thousands of people practice it. Before shooting this movie, my knowledge of this particular form of martial art is fairly little, so I used nine months to specialize in getting the crook and nannys right, and to practice the movements whilst staying in the hotel just to make sure I can act the part. This is to ensure I had respectfully fufilled the duties given to me as an actor, to the martial arts master himself, and all those who continue to extend the legacy of Ip Man and the art. Having him go from a complete beginner on actually practicing Martial Art, to learning one hundred and eighty steps of the entire routine is most certainly impressive. Some of the community after seeing his performance has questions on whether the actor had learned Martial Arts before shooting, showing how much work he had done and the effort he had put in with the movie and dedicated time in practicing the art. And in terms of the recreation of Ip Man's physical attributes, he had gone a great length to understand how Ip Man acted, what his personality and character can inspire. Certainly he put in a lot of time and effort into research by having various conversations with Ip Man's desendents. The information, time, effort spoke through the screen and to visit the hometown gives me an authentic experience that led me to understand what the environment was like at the time for Ip Man.
Continuation... : As for the set, the time period we are shooting in must be an accurate representation of how the streets and how language sound etc. These details had to be down to the T when we recreate it, making the working area 100% authentic, ensuring any information during his history that was remarkable. So in the course of research, this includes the events that Ip Man went through such as the friendly-fight between him and a Master from the North, between a Japanese Martial Arts Master and such. The purpose of true authenticity is to grasp our audience's interest, as those who watch the movie will certainly take an interest in how the Master of Bruce Lee lived before his time. This is my first time working with Director Yee that isn't behind the scenes. The decision is made between the two of us, which led to my full attention on what I as an actor have to bring to this role. Going into the role I had to pay my respects to those who extende the craft, then gain actual experience, to pay respect to martial arts in the way of shooting it movie wise, leading to translating it onto a screen. Director Hung.
