this doesn't sound different to me in the sense that it is so easy to listen bc it is familair. It's a departure from what's going on now, sure, but I love it bc it's like a nursery rhyme. Listen to this at least 3 times a day... Thx #DJShadow !

killer mike and el-p. nothing to do with ICP. el-p arguably ran new york underground rap from the late 90's to mid 2000's with his group company flow, his label def jux, and his solo career... killer mike is from atlanta and had a solo career, as well as doing work with Outkast, and his solo career took off again when he started working with el.

In my opinion I love the instrumental more than the original. I just think the bag of dicks thing really contradicts the eloquence of the instrumentation.

I think that was El-P's purpose with that line specifically: start the song off with this absolutely over the top, in your face rap brag that takes typical hip hop trash talk up to 11. Something that pops you out of your cool and makes you go "wait, what?" It sets the tone for the larger than life back and forth you are about to get from these two. The video supports this with the jarring dichotomy of a formal meeting of old white guys spitting this offensive and profanity-laced argument that is ultimately nothing but hot air and puffery. The song works on several levels at once which is a large part of what makes it great!
