Following a special 70mm screening of NOPE during our Jordan Peele curated series, The Lost Rider: A Chronicle of Hollywood Sacrifice, NOPE director Jordan Peele, lead Keke Palmer, producer Ian Cooper, editor Nicholas Monsour & composer Michael Abels joined FLC for a Q&A about the making of the film. Moderated by FLC Programmer Tyler Wilson.
Jordan Peele’s latest, most assured sci-fi-horror outing transposes the alien-invasion thriller to America’s wide-open west. NOPE concerns the family of Haywood Hollywood Horses, a California horse farm whose owner (Keith David) dies mysteriously and bequeaths the family business to his two children: the devoted but taciturn O. J. (Daniel Kaluuya) and Emerald (Keke Palmer), an aspiring filmmaker-actor far less interested than her brother in horse wrangling. Not long after the siblings bear witness to an uncanny discovery above their childhood home, they hatch a plan to obtain video evidence of it, while their neighbor Jupe (Steven Yeun)-a former child star and owner of a nearby Western theme park-takes a different approach to capturing the phenomenon. A big and kinetic existential nightmare about what it means to be human, NOPE probes everything from America’s mythologized West and legacy of exploitation to the moral consequences of cinematic spectacle and image-taking, especially of those treated as outsiders. A Universal Pictures release.

Peele looking more and more like a director. Disheveled and manically at points but always soft spoken.

Nope getting zero Oscar nominations is the biggest snub since Prisoners and Nightcrawler suffering the same fate

nope did not deserve a Oscar... are you kidding thats movie was trash ..just because something is black led doesn't mean it's the best thing in the world... it can be black and still be trash.. which ashamed cause the trailer actually had me excited to watch then when I saw ...just wasted 2 hrs of my life... this movie had the potential to be the 1st black sci-fi horror movie but failed miserably like they scared of a blanket in the sky...

Shut up. Where did the person mention in their comment that since the movie was black led it was the best thing in the world? Your racism jumped all the way out! 🙄The movie was great and Keke deserved a nomination for her performance!

@@Blufishii Movie would be just as good with white leads but ok weirdo Also lets not pretend like this movie wouldn’t get anything still if it had an all white cast, you mean to tell me the academy thought the VFX of Black Panther 2 was superior to this? Come on. It’s so obvious.

@ambirules It's not racism dumbass I'm saying when something is the black led or the first black anything ppl go crazy over it and hype it up when the movies is average the same if it were a white led film ...nope had potential but it was just stupid great concept poor execution ... not everything is racist moron

@thepaperchasasent.1061 idk, probably some planet with low gravity, and creatures like jean jacket eating creatures on land or sky, but let's leave it to peele to make up this world instead of us simple folk

Love how they left jean jacket's origin ambiguous. We don't even know if it is an alien, the characters just assumed it was a space craft and we ran with the assumption that it was extraterrestrial in origin; which it very well could be. We forget the 'u' in ugo and usap stands for unidentified.

Anyone able to figure out the name of the book they mention at around 9/10 minutes in about "replacing the sky" movie trickery?
