I have the green vinyl released in 1978. Quite rare now apparently. My favourite fun fact about the album, which i only learned from a Mark Lewiohn interview in 2020, was that Mean Mr. Mustard was a real person who lived just up the road from me! Loving the content, as ever Tudor.
@@TudorSmith Yes. Mr.Mustard lived in Old Park Road in Enfield. It's a very smart address near the golf club. He was mean to the point of eccentricity and insisted his wife kept the lights off when listening to the radio as there was no picture. When she divorced him, the story caught the interest of the tabloids which was where John read about it. He was Scottish by birth and in his defence stated thar being careful with money was part of his upbringing! Mrs.M was head teacher of a primary school so there must be people around the area who remember her, although sadly I don't know any.
The Beatles crossing Abbey Road, there were seven camera shots. those were 6 with the Beatles plus one used by Paul in 1993 for his album "Paul is Live". The street photo is from the same day as the Beatles session. 6+1.
A great video Tudor! Martin is often overlooked by his own words IMHO! He always said that it was The Beatles who were the major talent behind their records, which I agreed with him on, but ever since John’s remarks shortly after the Beatles split, his important touch has often been overlooked by casual fans. Just my opinion, but remember we all like our “Cake and eat it”! 😉👌❤
Hi Tudor, huge fan of yours here! I retired late last year and have been adjusting to it but it's really nice. You are the best in my opinion when it comes to Beatle videos. I know you need to do other topics and that's really good too. Abbey Road still sounds good today in 2024. I have been listening to its since 1969 when I was 11 years old (not nonstop of course) and I still am in awe of the record. I even tear up sometimes to it because it reminds me of my youth and because it's so freaking great! My one goal was to make it to the studio and crosswalk and hopefully can get there soon! Anyway, take care and thanks for the video! Russ
Thanks very much much Russ. Abbey Road is my favourite Beatles album which I tend to go on about in my videos. The sheer skills they applied with the latest technology that was available to them as well as song writing. They were at their peak and potentially had nowhere to go as a band after that. I hope retirement is treating you well 👍👍
Thank you for this review Tudor …. It’s my favourite Beatles album . I didn’t know Her Majesty was to be placed in between the two John songs . Your demo highlights how it could have sounded brilliantly . I think it would have worked however the song now lives on in the abbey road album as the iconic secret track …
I remember being in middle school (formerly known here in the U..S. as "Junior High School") when the "Paul is dead!!!" frenzy was going around and I NEVER once believed it because it would have been all over the news had it been true. I got the Abbey Road album as a holiday gift the year it was released and I played it endlessly on my stereo record player until I had every song memorized (I must have driven my parents and sister mad!).
Yeah the hoax is crazy. It amazes me that some people still believe it to be true. Nice memories for you of the album. I bet you can still remember it perfectly too!
My theory of Paul being "out of step" is the fact that he is left handed and would have taken off on the opposite foot. I loved the album as soon as it came out and so many tracks are favorites today. Thanks for excellent content!
Always wonderful to hear you...Paul is out of step because George started before he did and Paul had to get to his position in the way he drew it up...Peace and Love, Terry and Julia Tutor
I came across this channel last week and have been playing catch-up. Your videos are very informative, well edited and enjoyable to watch. Thank you for such great content. I had a business trip to London several years ago and the thing I wanted to do above all else was to walk the Abbey Road zebra crossing. Unfortunately, I did not have anyone to take my photo; however, I know I was there, and that is all that counts.
My favorite show so far! Your idea about "Her Majesty" is brilliant. I see what you mean! In America back "then", the TV came on in the morning with the national anthem, and also closed with it. If the Beatles didn't do that intentionally, they did it subconsciously! I completely agree. The only addition to this interesting show that I might have added was the "quantum leap" in the mechanics of the recording studio that the band enjoyed for the first time when they went to create their last masterpiece.
Hi again! I forgot yesterday (excited about the "Her Majesty" thing) to express my amazement at your demonstration of the placement of that song in the medley. What a very interesting episode this was. Very. Unforgettable, really.@@TudorSmith
I always try and avoid copyright issues on YT. They only let you get away with less than 10 seconds of original material if used in your own videos. But I think I was able to demonstrate how it would sound 👍 Hey it’s easy to get excited when one discovers something new relating to the Beatles. 👍
Great video of this brilliant album as always! I got chance to visit the studios last october. It was just surreal all the way starting from the zebra crossing right to the studio 2.
It's interesting how for as "popular" the album is the casual fan really only knows 2 MAYBE 3 songs from it. Come Together, Something and Octopus's Garden.
Yes I think so initially. John had a bed brought into the studio so that Yoko could recuperate (so I’ve read somewhere). But somewhere during the recording process, Yoko was excluded from the studio all together (again I think I’ve read that somewhere) which if true, enabled them all to really focus on the album .
Yes wasn’t Rubber Soul their first album as a Studio Band instead of a touring band? By the time they did Abbey Road, they were at the top of their game!
