I don't know how you managed to show us how you made all the modifications to the most epic STOL CubCrafters Cub in 20 minutes. I hope this stunt inspires the next generation of pilots to get involved in aviation. I'll be buying more merch to support more kids getting into aviation!

Before I get away from the original point, I completely agree that Mike's antics are a FANTASTIC introduction to GA, and the hobby as a whole. That said... Believe me, there's a bunch of people interested, but with the cost of entry during at appetizing $150/hr and rising fast, the pool of people who might realistically consider GA as an attainable hobby is shrinking fast. Add to that an ever shrinking number of municipal airports, decreasing visibility from the general public, and ever increasing regulation by the FAA, and you have a recipe for eventual extinction.
@RealRickCox
@RealRickCox Год назад
@@prelude2tube Trust me... I *TOTALLY* understand. I got most of my hours back in the day when you could get a really nice plane for $85 with an instructor and you could buy a Cessna 172 in good condition for under $60k. I'm disheartened at how expensive airplanes and 110LL fuel has gotten. And when you spend $100k to get all of your ratings just so you can make less than minimum wage flying cargo at all hours of the night... that's the REAL issue. Entry level flying positions just aren't paying well enough to make it an attractive career.
@andreinechaev2955
@andreinechaev2955 Год назад
@@prelude2tube 150 for an hour?! Maaaan, you are still good :)! In Europe, we paid approximately 220 - 280 per hour, just old good steam Cessna 172. It literally makes me cry sometimes, most of the time to be honest.

@@RealRickCox Yeah, man. Apologies for dooming out a bit, there. It just kills me that I justifying GA as a hobby behind difficult, not just because of the cost barrier itself, but because the costs put it in unfavorable competition with other motorsports / hobbies. Hey Mike, you probably already considered this but regarding the removable fuel tank, you might have been able to use a dry break coupling for disconnecting the fuel line. Requires no tools and you can break the connection with fuel still in the tank if needed. Radium engineering makes them in AN-6 and -8 sizes. Awesome video as always. Back to work!
@hunterperformancepros
@hunterperformancepros Год назад
Not big enough fitting available I’d assume or he would’ve done it that way.
@samscott5230
@samscott5230 Год назад
@@hunterperformancepros The stock fuel system for a Carbon Cub would use 3/8” (-6) lines and fittings but even if they totally re-plumbed the entire fuel system (which, knowing Mike, he may have), a 1/2” (-8) system would be more than enough. It’s probably more of a weight/availability concern than anything. Dry-breaks would certainly be heavier.

I've been using a tapered 3 gallon header tank in my RANS S-7S for years. By waggling the wings in flight I'm able to get every drop of fuel out of the mains, and thus every drop out of the header. Besides the sight gauges in the main wing tanks, the header itself also has a sight gauge, so when I run out of fuel, I have a 3 gallon visual warning. It's awkward to see, but when I get down to that low of a level I have found my flexibility increases dramatically!
