The absolute very best song that Mr. Mayfield ever wrote, choosing the very best songstress to sing this track, with her very soulful, loving, earthy, nurturing voice, Ms. Knight!!!!! The lyrics are so beautiful/meaningful.....The great Love of/for GOD, the presence, the laughter, cries of sweet, innocent children in the air, our lives!!! Your loving, loyal, solid, stand up, have my back man. ....That guy you can always look up to, love, admire, respect!!!!Loving, unified, hang in there, Family/friends.....The treasures of this very precious delicate, GOD gifted dream we all call life!!!!!!!!!!!

I knew every sound, every lick, the entire string line and bass line, minimal drums and all as a kid. I studied records down to the slightest tic. I was born with it and till this day I can’t turn it off. So when I say that this is one of the most beautiful songs ever made, one of the most beautiful arrangements, I speak from the heart!

In the 60s and 70s, Black slow songs were 100% about the beauty of the sounds in the song. ”EarCandy” or “EarMance” is what it was about. This song is a perfect example. So soft on the ear. Almost no drums. Pretty bass pretty strings pretty Rhodes keyboard. That guitar blurting out those pretty licks. And Gladys restraining herself from what she could really do because the song was just too soft and delicate to be wailing on it. Love was an acceptable thing to sing about back then.Never realized it would not be so one day.
