When I saw all those old white hair/bearded men and the other men singing, it reminded me of ancient times, probably changing little in 2000 years.

Young girls under the age of maybe eight or nine can be with their male relatives in the men's part of the shul. When they get a little older, they will go upstairs to the ladies' section. I hope this helps.
