In interviews, Paul Simon has said this version is how the song was intended to be sung and it was now Disturbed’s. He even put a link to it on his own website. Check out the official video. It now has over 1 billion views. This is a masterpiece.
David Draiman trained as Jewish Cantor in his youth but went the way of metal in the mid 90s. Didn’t discover them until I came across them on RU-vid in 2020 during COVID. I went down the rabbit hole watching their videos. You need to watch the official. Though I like Down with the sickness, it’s not anywhere near as good as many of their metal and nonmetal music. Paul Simon prefers this version compared to the original (I still own my original S & G vinyl from 1964). Watch the original video!!!! I personally don’t care for this performance. Draiman was very ill (sitting down) and he didn’t find out that producers autotune all live performances. He was furious. Down with the Sickness was their very first hit over 25 years ago and my favorite either. They released some incredible music since then. The guys in the band are gifted musicians, write incredible metal and nonmetal songs. Expand your experience. Never judge a band by one early song. I’ve seen Metallica live, have you? This is advice from a 75 year old grandma from California, U.S.
You know how much a song means for someone when you go to its RU-vid video and see lots of comments of people saying how the song reignited their hearts as well as those of the beloved ones they lost. =,) Also, I miss my mom and dad. They're 3922 km away from me right now.
I once saw an ice skater perform ( or actually compete) to this song. It was so powerful! I think the recorded version was a bit faster. I am old enough to remember the Simon and Garfunkel original, which I adored, but I find this very moving as well.
If you think the original has more emotion than this version, you need to look up the definition of "emotion". I liked Simon and Garfunkel's version, I was around when it was released, but I never heard the lyrics until I discovered this version. It makes you listen. You actually said he sang it too well. Whaaaat?
Johnny Cash: “Hurt” is … awright. I wept like a child first time I heard that. This is *almost* in the same league as MeatLoaf… in his dreams. I mean, it was a good cover, but give me MeatLoaf’s cover of Gershwin’s “Somebody Loves Me” on the Larry Adler album as a cover, any day. Setting the bar there, let me know if anyone can beat it.
I clicked on this reaction because I thought it was the official studio video. You should check it out because it gives a wonderful visual story with the song.
I mean... hard to beat the original. But I do love this version. They do have a couple of songs off the most recent album that do pretty much what you're asking for. I love SoaD and Linkin Park... and Disturbed. Not my favorite bands and there are definitely newer metal bands that are doing things better today... but I think that stuff had some merit to it.
S & G's version was a warning and was meant to be heard. This version is the anger that warning was ignored and is meant to be felt! Simon wrote this song for David's voice. He just didn't know it at the time. And btw -- David was as sick as a dog when he performed that on the Canon show, so to be sick and still sound that good? This far exceeds just a "decent" rendition. Maybe you should read up a bit on David, and read an interview or 2 on him choosing this song to cover. And while you're at it, watch the actual music video. And just listen and watch. Take it ALL in! Because if you don't end up with goose bumps by the end of the video, then there is something seriously wrong with you!
I love their cover of this song and I also enjoy Geoff Castellucci the bass and founding member of the Acapella group VoicePlay. Who also did great cover of this song. Everything is better when you make it bass.
I feel like you just have a chip on your shoulder towards disturbed. Disturbed is awesome. I’m sorry you don’t appreciate it. It’s way better than the original. He won a Grammy for that performance. I don’t like you
Tell me this. At what point did I say this was a bad performance? Can you find the moment in the video for me? Oh wait, you can’t because I never said that?! Oh okay, maybe shut the fuck up then
@@markabusireactions cute. Listen to the song . Really listen, not just to the voice but the music and the lyrics and the combination of all together. You can tell when there is a pause that's a good spot to stop at. I'm sure you go back and listen again off camera. But I would love to see your reaction with less interruption. It seems more organic. You are right and it's your channel, do it how you like. I meant no insult, more of a suggestion.
Your recording sounds almost like mono stereo, not much sound from the left speaker. So I couldn't continue to watch. Not so much of a criticism but more of fyi
Yes, so, I got a new microphone for recording my album, which goes in through an audio interface and records in mono. At the start, I kept forgetting that in the editing I had to double track to make it stereo, there’s a few videos from around this time with the same issue. It’s been fixed since!
