Anime was so different back when this came out. I was in high school when I first watched this show and it was so haunting that I still think about it 20 years later. The art is beautiful and terrifying.

Why was this cancelled? Pet shop of horrors was the most unique horror show ever. Who would ever associate a pet shop in a horror story? Especially psychological detective horror?

The one with Alice got to me because I'm a mother, so I can sympathize, but at the time, that same reason makes me hold the parents accountable. They would spoil the girl so terribly to the point where they literally killed her. That's not love. That's being a pushover because you're scared to death of not being loved. When it comes to parenting, I learned that a lot of times, the most loving word you tell a child is "NO" and the most loving you can do is standing by your "NO".

These stories are creepy but they does give you moral in a straight disturbing way.

Pet shop of Horrors is one of my favorite horror/comedy mangas. There's about 10 volumes and I think a spin-off series set in Tokyo. A lot of the stories are very tragic and seem to have a moral lesson attached to it. In fact, all of the titles in each story actually starts with the letter "D" just like Count D's name. I would highly recommend if you are interested in dark fantasy anthologies where every story is different and everything mysterious is tied to this little pet shop in China Town. This is such an underrated manga series and it was such a gem to read.

Just like in the movie gremlins, the proprietor never tells the customer what will happen if the rules are broken. That part seems unrealistic.

funny thing is XXXholic follows a similar process.. pretty much the people who go to the shop did a big fuck up and buy a "pet" that had rules.. the "pet" will try to get you to bend the rules, you need to stand firm and follow them.. thing is they all cave and repeat the same mistakes... resulting in very bad outcomes.

Pet shop Horrors! Love that anime!! Well, when anime was graphic adult rated, some for adult viewers and other teens etc. 80s 90s and late 20th century titles were prevalent and amazing! I sooo Freking hate the majority of anime today and the mass-produced looking art esp. cg! Worst! There was a lot of art hand drawn just like Disney, Classics are certainly eternal. Also called "The Golden Ages" (Makes me think a lot of Wood kid's song title! So much meaning! Amazing French singer along with a lot of my fav Eruopean singers *.*) This is an amazing dark natured anime! Although Akira and Ninja Scroll along with Berserk are my fav top graphic anime! The art style and nature make it graphic for the record vs. todays cookie, goofy, plastic projected anime man... Graphic anime and adult characters are certainly my fav anime nature and type.🖤✒

The Mermaid episode had haunt me the most. It made me to not go to a pool for a week. Because I was in Elementary School when I first watched this Anime. As an Adult, this episode hurts me so much.

This was a good series but way too short it’s even really hard to find the manga to continue the plot. I always wondered if one of the pets wanted to become a monster girl and show her true self to her master or parent and not sign a contract. Since the dective knew what was happening he never asked D why he always sold pets to owners who would always break the contract? It would also be interesting if the dective got a pet from there and he was in the same spot but he managed to upheld the contract even into his senior years.

This is very unusual but very much so crazy. Also, a huge indication of how people don’t listen to anything but their own selfish wants. Also do you notice that that all these people have bad luck due to their own foolish mostly due to women in their life. I would say this is very telling to the writers experiences to say the least. 🤔 Also the actor story was crazy instead of opening an acting school or running away with her he chose death WTF and she was dumb enough to do the same fool 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♀️
