I thought the same thing. i wonder if he always does that. The moment you walk into someone's home, there's a good chance that there are photos, memorabilia and more that would help with clues.
In crime dramas, a detective often asks to go to the bathroom when they visit suspects/witnesses at their homes so that they can have a nosy around whilst the suspect/witness is distracted by their colleague. Twice Joe was seen doing this but it was at the fake address that his reading did not go well.

One thing I do love about Derren Brown is how he can do all this medium nonsense but always stresses that he's not a psychic and it's a trick. He could take advantage of people so easily but chooses not to.
During one of his live shows, one of the acts he does is pretending to be one of these stage mediums (with a scouse accent, coincidentally), and he's actually more accurate than the allegedly real ones
I saw Derren live about 10-11 years ago and he's an amazing showman, 99% of it was baffling. I highly recommend seeing one of his live shows. He did something right at the end of the show(which I can't remember now) and when the curtains close written on the curtains was something that basically tricked the whole audience. Good stuff.
I love that when Ros asks HIM a question he has nothing. An easy way to expose a cold reader- stop providing information, start asking for it. "What does my mum want to say about Paul?"
This guy just seems like an unpleasant person. He has a voice that drones on. He drops a bag and blames Derren. He doesn't pull up his trousers high enough. He lies about things that have been caught on camera. He seems to not know what a sceptic is. He generally acts like a child.

I do think the "other side" might speak to you, maybe time isn't linear. I truly don't know. But the thing is if you see then standing in a fucking show is 99.9999% going to be fake. Let me tell you, if you see a death in your dreams or passing image & then it happens. I can only tell you of my own experience. I'm disturbed & saddened.
What an unsavoury character. With such hubris that he 'thinks' he can go on public television and get away with being the utter fraudulent trickster he is. What a total narcissist. Throughout this documentary, he blames, shames, and thinks nothing of throwing others under the bus. For example, leaving Claire Cooper with the suggestion of an affair... and laughing about it, whilst refusing to give information. It was all about him 'proving' that he was better than Derren, in this instance, and he didn't care what he did to somehow 'prove' it. He's horrible. Lying and cheating his way through life, whilst using people in very vulnerable states for money and 'fame'. He doesn't think he's a medium and he's somehow mistaken - he knows he's not, which is why he cheats at this 'game'. He knows exactly what he is doing. There isn't a shred of remorse or humility either.
The 'affair' thing was a cheap shot..what a snide. sadly if one mentions ''affair'' to anyone, they are going to be worried...show me someone who isn't, and I'll show you a fibber...either because they are having an affair, or because they are worried their partner is.

Astonishing, from that sloppy packed night he made £2,500 from all those people. Nah he'll just bullshit his way out of any criticism, his clients want to be bullshitted, so he won't lose work from this, he'll gain it, from the exposure. Good or bad. That's why he's doing this show, they're opportunistic and fully confident in their ability to lie their way out of situations. I suppose that's because mostly they deal with soft targets. But that's not Derren! And yes, it's stomach-turningly evil what he's doing, him and all the rest. To exploit grief and bereavement, it's so cheap and shabby.
£2500 is the total amount paid by the audience, Joe would not have made anything close to that. How much do you think it would have cost to hire the venue and pay the people working there?
Roman Candle that’s part of cold reading. Always have an out. You’re never wrong. They just aren’t understanding, or the spirits aren’t clear, or you should think about it and it will make sense later. People will forget the misses but remember the hits because. And even though you give the info, they think you came up with it. Think of the thing with the cat’s paw. He asked “is the cat’s paw ok?” She’ll remember it as “he knew my cat had hurt its paw.” Most cats have hurt a paw at some point. If he was wrong he would have said “you should pay close attention for the next few months.” She’ll forget by then.

If you want the evidence just from this video, watch how the actor from Hollyoaks states to the camera afterwards that she thinks DB is psychic, even though during the reading he told her that he wasn't. People believe what they want to believe without evidence supporting it.

This is why I love derren brown. He's not trying to be fake. He is genuine and authentic. And that's what makes it so fascinating. Of course he does tricks and such but he never claims he can do stuff like reach someone from beyond the grave etc. He uses smart psychological techniques and he reads people for entertainment, people enjoy what he puts out into the world; it's an amazing experience. he doesn't play on the emotions of those who have suffered but instead he wants to help you through it, amazing.
I have to say, while I really love Derren when he does these kinds of things, he has undoubtedly released shows that involve a TONNE of fakery, or at the very least, overtly misleading the audience into believing something is real, unscripted, unedited, does not involve patsies... when they 100% have, are and do.

He calls himself a clairaudient, but he has no idea what that is. Clairaudience is the ability to hear spirits talk to you, either in your head or out loud. It does NOT mean that you need to have dialogue and voice reaction from the living person in front of you, which is exactly what cold reading is. If he had taken the test and read for someone he didn't have sitting opposite him, he wouldn't have been able to do it. When he stated that the test was designed for failure, he was basically admitting that he was a fraud. He throws out information, responds to the stuff he gets a good reaction on, and ignores what doesn't. I'm sorry, but I'd need more information than how many siblings I have to be convinced of his ability. Power is a thoroughly unpleasant little character and an obvious fake.
I never understand why these ghosts are so cryptic with their messages. Its never "i left my will under the dining room cabinet" or anything specific. Its always "93, 7, Daughter, football" its such a scam i struggle to see how the con artist doesnt turn red with embarssment when they say it
I think you hit the nail on the head there. It is indeed a scam, and those vague answers allow them to say essentially nothing while bolstering confidence in their so-called "abilities".

Yea he was saying he gives facts but u know how many ppl have had a mini or a family member who has had a mini in the U.K. Darren's "reading" was way more specific like the color of cats and she where she went on holiday with her bf.
I went to see a spiritualist when I was a teenager as my dad died when I was really wee. It made me feel really good at the time to think I'd had a chance to speak to him since I couldn't remember him. Years later when I realised it was cold reading, I was more annoyed at myself for being gullible than I was for the guy taking advantage of it.
The ones that are good at it are often well practiced at making people feel the way you felt. I was sent to one after a friend died when I was 14 I didn't tell her my friend had died and she told me I had no reason to feel upset about anything and I should just go bake a cake like I was a spoiled kid refusing to engage with the world

It would be interesting to set up some fake identities for frauds to try and read. Fake facebook and linkedin accounts as a start, then have Joe Power or other scammer come to a house that had been primed with fake family photos, fake sport trophies and certificates on the walls. Leave some medication in the bathroom cabinet along with a fake repeat prescription form to be found. Then have well hidden cameras to record the scammer mooching through private things when he is 'going to the toilet' Don't challenge him, just let him make a fool of himself by coming up with totally fake info you had planted.

In that last bit of questioning about him being a fake, he gives almost every single cue of a liar trying to act like they aren't lying. Too much eye contact, excessive information and detail in their denial, absolutely no blinking (to the point that his eyes water at the end), over the top emotional expressiveness ("I am disgusted...") and finally, attempt to incite guilt ("It was a pleasure working with you"). What a crook.
As long as there are people who believe that the dead can be contacted... there will be people taking advantage of them... I personally think that active skepticism should be taught as part of the education system.
The thing I'm most interested in regarding mediums is not what they do, but if it's fake, why they do it. What is the psychological mechanism within them that is fulfilled by this pursuit? Joe mentions his dream would be to perform for thousands - is it just the fame he seeks, or is there some kind of deep-seated disorder that needs to be fulfilled in this way? perhaps he couldn't get over the loss of a loved one; perhaps he couldn't form loving connections to the people he has lost and 'retraces' this loss through connecting to others in a 'meaningful' sense. I'd love for there to be an in-depth psychological evaluation of a medium. Maybe these people can be cured of whatever it is that makes them tick in this way?
This is the guy who did a reading for Karen Matthews, to help find her 'kidnapped' daughter, Shannon. Joe said that the kidnapper was a man with a babyseat and brown cushion in the back of his car. In fact, there was no kidnapping, Karen had hidden Shannon with a relative of her fella.
Paddy .Cook wow, didn't know that. Spoke to a parent a few years ago who was scammed for £10k by a 'psychic' who was 'helping' her find her missing son. They hired divers and stuff as this bitch said he was 'in water'. He was found (dead, tragically) frozen to death in a farmer's field.
