I never thought I would see the day where one human could literally cause any of us to just be quiet and listen. Sitting in that room with that guy would have been an honor. Well done my friends. This was truly a great episode.
Tom is an important part of rock n roll history. Motley Crue, Dokken, Metallica, GnR, Tesla. Just one of those is huge and he had many. Great eye and ear for talent still today. 1st ballot hall of famer in my opinion.
I’m watching this again. Best interview I’ve ever seen anywhere! Please have him back! The world of music needs more Tom. Isn’t he the guy that lost his girlfriend to Niki Sixx?
I used to own that Rock City Angels record, it was great. Oddly enough I actually knew that bit about Johnny Depp being involved with that band and that song. Zutaut is the GOAT.
I don’t know how I came to this podcast/ you tube, but I’m so glad I did. This man is so interesting. It brought back so many memories as well as learning and I’m just so glad it came by me. Thank you.
Big thanks to Tom for being the real rockstar and giving Mötley Crüe, Tesla and Guns n Roses to me as a young boy living in a little village in Ohio 🤘🏼
Great episode. I wish he mentioned The Fabulous Miss Wendy who is another artist he was behind and curious what happened to that project. Regarding Rock City Angels ... his timeline is a bit off. Johnny Depp came out here with them from FL I think it was '85 or 86. Johnny lived with my best friend who also came out here from FL. They played around the clubs and it was definitely before 21 Jump Street. He left the band to do the TV show. It's possible that Johnny joined RCA onstage at the Teaszer for a record release party or some other jam night after Johnny was on the hit TV show.
I am very familiar with Tom but I have not listened to this yet. I have never heard that he signed Metallica? I’m well aware of Vicky Hamilton having him come to the show and he basically signed GNR after about 10 to 20 minutes. It was a no brainer they changed the whole genre. The issue was management and getting them on MTV which was critical at that time. I don’t think there was any other band that was that much of a guarantee…. The music the names the front man the guitarist it was the danger and the absolute refusal to conform. Such an incredible time to have been around. The greatest frontman ever and for 5+yrs the greatest band ever.
