Absolutely agree with you. Children are not tools you use to try to fix your mess. You fix it or decide to end the relationship using commonsense and to be peaceable as possible for your own actions. Children have no say who they are born to and when. It is wrong to place such a selfish burden of need on them to fix your own stupidity. Get out of your own way before you ever think of having children.
i see a lot of stories where partners trying to "fix" their relationship by having kids and to this day i don't understand why would anyone think a child will fix what's happened between two people? like... a child is also a human by themselves. they're not exactly can contribute anything to the issue. if anything a child will only add stressors if the two ppl don't even try to understand the root of the problem in their relationship and address it with each other. the children will always be the collateral damage. as an eldest from a broken marriage, this always personally pisses me off. as an adult now i have trust issues bcs of my parents (still working on it my own).
Even if he didn't mean it and it happened in the heat of the moment his actions after trying to cover up the crime should have got him ten years by itself
I'm not saying America has a great legal system, but some of these Canadian and Britain cases really irritate me with these super light sentences. He murdered his wife and only got a handful of years. His kids no longer have either of their parents, their mother no longer has her life but hey, he can do pretty much whatever he pleases for the rest of his. So irritating
@Empress Astral. Exactly! These soft laws are ridiculous. And the countries who care more about rehabilitating these monsters instead of the poor innocent people they murdered, are even more disgusting. They deserve to be punished!
There is no perfect legal system. As often as "justice" isn't handed out the way we think it should, a large percentage of cases do go well. There are a lot of variables to consider, as each case is different - judge, jury, attorneys, plea deals, evidence, criminal record, etc. Personally, I support the idea of life in prison for taking a life. Sometimes the death penalty even seems appropriate. But, it just can't work that way.
The “we argued and then she left” motif runs through SO, SO many cases where women have gone missing and it turns out they were killed. It should always raise the deepest possible suspicion.
Idk about that, it’s also how like 75% of breakups go down. Seems p normal. That’d be like being suspicious of someone bc they said they had cereal the morning the person went missing.
75% of break ups result in a woman going missing and the partner then saying “we argued and she left”? No. Don’t know what sort of break ups you’ve had experience with but nah. That will always be suspicious.
@@honeybadgerftw2383 a person suddently leaves another person in a break up is different than they gone completely missing and no one was able to contact.
As it turns out, it's shockingly easy to sell this. There was one dude who murdered his wife and dumped her body on the highway; he told the police she got mad at him and bailed out of the moving car and they still didn't arrest him for another week or so.
I agree a crime documentary doesn’t have to feel like a horror flick. The reading a newspaper at breakfast vibe makes it a lot easier to process. A major reason why I subscribed
I don’t believe that you can accidentally strangle someone to death. It takes a long time to strangle someone to death. I’m surprised the prosecutor didn’t bring that up.
@@olserknam After you go unconscious your body starts breathing normally after you're knocked out if you don't have your airway obstructed...And you go limp..It is pretty obvious when someone is K.O.-ed. He needed to hold her for quite some time to make her die to due lack of oxygen or apply actual directed and willing pressure on purpose to crush her trachea. There is no devil's advocate here. This is murder with knowledge and a decision in the moment, not a mistake. The fact that he didn't get life in prison shows how the legal system is a joke....If he killed her in a fit of rage then it can be an accident and he can argue in court, but he hid the truth for more than a year and disposed of the body on the hush hush to not attract attention. Committing this then trying to hide it and plant a false trail is called trying to obstruct justice and you don't do that if you're innocent. He needed to stay in jail just for the fact he tried to hide himself and hide the crime after doing it instead of taking responsibility . What innocent man thinks of shit when they hear their house is searched then talks to a gun with the knowledge he will make him get away and avoid punishment in such a nonchalant way about killing their spouse? Any defense of this case is weak and contradicts his actions during the search and at the end of it.
Yes manslaughter. There's no proof of 'murder' as it's defined in law. The stuff that he did afterwards is irrelevant to that charge, unless it was shown to be premeditated.
@@berserkagain7976 He buried her in his basement. Hardly mastermind stuff. If he had an elaborate plan, her body wouldn't be anywhere near him or his house.
@@skullladymalady Agreed. it genuinely does seem like he didn't intend to kill, but the cover up should be in itself a crime that is punishable by at least 15-20 years
@@deanedongdoorbell Just cause America's justice system is broken doesn't mean 7 years for choking out your partner and burying her body in your basement and leaving it to rot is just. There's a middle ground here.
@Taliya Pottruff I never said it was just, if you read my comment you would know that. You did not answer my question. To reiterate, I asked why more draconian "revenge systems" as I like to call them don't work. Longer/Harsher sentences don't work nearly as well as reformation oriented justice systems. Now, it was not necessarily fair to assume that this Canadian is in favor of punishment justice systems but I surmised that from how they worded their comment. What is the middle ground your looking for?
Imagine using the old voice mails recorded by your wife who you killed to create a fake voice mail to send to her mother. I wonder how Allan felt while doing this. When you find yourself in such a situation, you have to wonder what kind of life choice brought you there.
Every single time a man says 'she just left for no reason' along with 'we had the perfect relationship' my mind immediately goes to 'so where'd you put the body you POS'. I can name 50 cases just in the last ten years where this exact same thing has happened. Every single time.
I agree with what you have said here. The only problem with your statement is the use of the word men. Being a man I can tell you these animals are not men. A man is a protector, provider and someone to be confided in, keeping in mind these roles are not traditionally confined. (Example, you don't need to fight people to be a protector) I think the use of theses phrases should absolutely be points of interest ( possibly already are now ) but again, these are not men. I have felt a lot of negativity from others simply because I have a penis. And other dick swingers are murderous cretins which means apparently I'm also a POS by proxy. I feel like in the state of our society I should be able to voice my innocence to the wrongdoings and genocide by fuckers that look like me, I say this with confidence because my father subjected myself and my mother to a decade of physical and mental torture. Ensuring the fact to me that I will never be that. I'm sorry for ranting a bit here, I'm not trying to defend these disgusting pigs. But I cannot sit idly by while men are compared to these physcopaths.
Alan now has trust issues? That makes me pretty happy, actually, when I think that Lisa doubtless experienced trust issues when Alan put his hands around her neck and squeezed the life out of her body. I bet his children also experience trust issues when they came to the realization that their father murdered their mother, then lived with him in the house while their mother lay entombed in the basement below them. I imagine those trust issues escalated when they remembered how he held them in his arms while they cried for their mother, telling them he didn't know where Mommy was, that she just left all of them.
Ill take trust issues over being killed and covered in concrete anyday, Canada is full of pansy arse mf's who couldn't put Adolf Hitler to death if he was sitting in a chair begging to be put to death lmao. But hey they innocent die while this guy gets to start a new life!
This is why it pays to have a great relationship with your parents because Lisa's mom knew her daughter wouldn't leave her favorite jacket and shoes in the middle of October weather. Her mom knew something wasn't right and went with her but instinct, even down to the voicemails Lisa left that didn't sit well with her. Rest in peace to Lisa and Alan deserves all that he's getting.
He may have killed her in a fit of rage but the way he tried to fool poor Lisa's mother and how calmly he told his story to his "friend" tells a lot about the callousness and evilness of this creep. Then he was not punished but rewarded with just a slap on the wrist and I wouldn't be surprised if he did it again, this time being careful not to tell anyone and to dispose of the body far from home.
Everything about this case just rinks of premeditation and master manipulation and yet they don't think to send this guy to at worst decades in prison? Just one of the many reasons why I'll never visit the s******* which is Canada 🤨
Canadas legal system is an absolute joke... same as England! These 2 places are almost the only countries where murderers and sexual predators are barely punished for their crimes... no matter how heinous or depraved, especially if you have any kind of celebrity! The only way you get away with anything in America is if youre a part of the 13%... then you end up with a criminal rap sheet thicker than a Stephen King novel!
@@rullmourn1142 he got caught a whole year after it happened... nobody checked him for any marks after the incident. And there are plenty of ways someone's life can be in danger without them getting any wounds. I 100% think he's in the wrong and should've been in jail for life, but your comment just isn't how self defense works a lot of times.
I agree, it is the energy of the whole thing and whose mind isn't working right that would give such a sentence for such a horrific thing he did - it was more than monstrous. He probably drove himself insane, and then all the fake friends - this guy will always be a loose canon. May Christ have mercy on him - for this one would surely crave it.
I hurt for her mom. I can tell she knew everything was wrong the second she saw those shoes and coat. Not everyone can have a relationship with their parents like that, and I hurt equally for people who have slipped through the cracks because of this.

A sting undercover operation for a missing woman? 🤯 Well, either Calgary PD are seriously bored or we've finally found a properly functioning and appropriatly funded and staffed PD! 🤯🙌🤞 Edit: with one year and multiple ppl?! I'm shocked/amazed!
Canadians love undercover work ,at least for murderers and such . Apparently it's working though ,this is the third case I've watched videos on that it worked.
I was thinking about the same thing. Wow! A sting operation for a missing person. The police force must either be too bored or, had a lot of funds and resources.😆 I thought it was just me being too much of a sceptic after watching too many True Crime series that show local enforcement's lackadaisical attitude towards crimes (in many countries featured in these series).
I’m born and raised Calgarian and yes, sting operations like this are common. It’s not boredom, sometimes this is the only way to obtain evidence. I went to junior high with Lisa and remember her as a very quiet, shy and nice person. I was very sad to learn of her fate when this case came to light. RIP Lisa.
That undercover operation had CIA-levels of complexity. Makes me wonder what they have to do to get an operation like that approved; they manufactured a whole new friend group for this guy just on the suspicion he murdered someone. Almost seems a waste to do all that work for 7 years of prison time
It’s actually Realllllyyy kind of stupid for them to do in a case like this before they even searched the house, because the circumstances surrounding the sting are highly scrutinized by the judge and often enough are found inadmissible, or not given much clout towards any charges or decision making. So in my opinion they were gambling unnecessarily because once the house was searched, the evidence was obvious and copious. Almost like they all just like to put on their spy vs spy personas and possibly totally fuck up the justice that can be had for an innocent victims loved ones! Stupidity! Selfishness! And many other not cool expletives about this PD and their practices are running through my mind…
@@_Y.Not_ your comment is incredibly misleading and incredibly only 50% true. The confession doesn’t matter in the end if the judge finds their findings inadmissible because of some infraction. These stings are often and easily never entered into evidence and therefore are taking a big risk in playing with peoples lives. For this case, all they had to do was search the flippin house! The sting was unnecessary and seems to me that the cops have personal motives for enjoying this type of undercover theatrics. They shouldn’t be allowed to fuck around before conducting the obvious and most common investigative tactics, and seeing what kind of evidence that brings to light first! Especially in this case and especially with that terrible cement job cover up Alan tried to pull off. The sting wasn’t needed whatsoever, yet the cops were busy role playing and fucking around for a YEAR whike Lisas body sat in THEE most obvious of places just waiting to be discovered!Imagine if after 6 months in, Alan would have grabbed a brain and realized he needed to move her remains because that quik-crete disaster would for sure get him found out? What if he moved her, aaannnnddd the whole sting was found inadmissible? Then the PD would have fkd the whole case, and the family’s chance at seeing justice for their Lisa would have been less than slim! They gambled here, not fair, not cool and especially NOT ETHICAL! It’s troublesome to know these facts surrounding this case! Shame on them! Hope their mothers are disappointed af in them!
NEVER have kids in a dysfunctional relationship. NEVER EVER. It's nearly impossible to cut an abusive person out of your life if they're the parent of your child. And the stress from raising a child will ALWAYS make the abuse worse.

After his bipolar episode when he was feeling normal again he could have very easily confessed, but he chose not to because he knew what he did was wrong. He will DEFINITELY do this again given the right circumstances.
I cannot believe how short his sentence was for what he did. The lengths he went through to cover up his crime does not read as an accidental death to me at all. The fact that hes a free man now is just awful.
I am not defending him at all, this applies to anyone, but if a death is truly truly an accident/self-defense, it is not hard to fathom a mind set of thinking a possibility of being found guilty of a 1st/2nd degree murder, and possibly getting life, just as completely innocent people are found guilty, could explain the choices he made. 😈 advo.
@@themadhi-hatter6849 I seriously doubt he told the truth in what happened. He is motivated to lie to make him look good and lessen charges. I find it offesive when they take the murderer's word for what happened.
Amazing how cops had the patience to befriend this guy over the course of a whole year just to eke the details of the murder out of him. RIP Lisa Mitchell
Right. This is the second case I’ve heard of on true crime channels where the guy was busted in this way! Pretty incredible police work. I bet that doesn’t happen in the USA.
You guys should google the case though. Local papers outlined everything the cops did to get close, which included inventing a fake trucking company and paying him a salary for 8 months. This one hits close to home. I knew Allan very well, him and I worked at a restaurant together for close to 5 years and only parted ways after I moved, this story would have picked up 2-3 years after I was friends with him. While he was extremely quiet and introverted he always joined a social situation (after work beers, bar night birthday celebrations) and always came off as strange but more like he was putting on, like he was trying to come off as this ‘strange guy’ while just being normally friendly. Interactions with him were sort of strange but not unpleasant. Him and I frequented a bar down the street (Shout out to JR’s in the NE, now looks like it’s a magic shop) and did so on a regular basis. He dated a friend of mine who is the one who told us about this when the story broke. While he could get angry and upset, no more than the rest of us, if he had bipolar disorder when we worked together (roughly 2006-2010) it wouldn’t have been noticeable, working in the kitchen they all had the same temperament. While I wouldn’t call him stupid or dimwitted, he worked best on a routine, high pressure curve balls were not his forte. While it’s true he was naturally a negative person, not so much that he was unbearable to be around. It sucks that this is where his life went and the damage that will remain in those lives that he caused, because this isn’t the guy I knew. After a large restaurant push would clear, him and I would go for a double smoke break, consecutively smoking 2 cigarettes and talk about each other’s night. We would then stay after close for a beer or go down the street for a pint, we would do this 3-4 times a week for close to 3 years until my departure, then fell out of touch. I didn’t realize he was out of jail until I watched this video which is nuts. Anyways, some insight to the man in the video, he was strange, just not the kind of guy you would expect to literally be hiding a body in his basement.
That's typical of people with bipolar, they can pull it together for work and other functions, but at home, in a relationship...the uglier side comes out! He might not have had bipolar when he dated your friend, also once it starts up it builds for years (in most cases).
Wow... it's crazy to me that law enforcement went to such elaborate lengths to nail this dude, for him to only get a manslaughter charge & hardly any jail time. What a sad waste of effort imo. This murderer is already out & free, which he doesn't deserve. I'm glad they found Lisa's body, and we're able to give Peggy & her children a little bit of closure. Side note: Lisa was born only 2 months before me, so I got quite the chuckle out of seeing all the lovely 90's - early 00's fashion lol, and hearing about her girl group "Just Cuz", etc. 😊 🕊 R.i.p. Lisa, you were taken way too soon.🕊
He didn't even go through everything that the police did in this case. They invented a fake trucking company and PAID HIM A SALARY FOR 8 MONTHS!!!!! They paid for fishing trips on "the boss' boat" (a cop.) Paid for tickets to football games, road trips, etc.... Meaning, if you are Canadian, your tax dollars paid the salary of a suspected murderer FOR 8 MONTHS!!!!! Canada is a fucking crazy country.

I don’t think this would have made a difference. The judge didn’t believe it either. What was believable was the dude probably didn’t really mean to kill her, until that moment anyway. That makes sense to get a lesser sentence, but still, the dude got the same sentence as some minor crime for it.
Yep I never, EVER believe men when they say she attacked him, when she ends up dead stuff in a suitcase or something. Never. Do women attack men? Yes, but the outcome typically isn't 'dead and buried in concrete'.
Listen, after watching many crime documentaries, I have decided that for my own safety and wellbeing, I will no longer be dating or getting personally involved with men. It's too much!
It really speaks to the sheer psychopathy of Alan, to go about his life, with his children... meters away from the mummified corpse of his wife. Wow. Edit: When Adrian swears, it just sounds so unnatural haha... Not meant to have a go, I love Adrian's work. CHC is awesome.
Unbelievable. I can't believe he's already out of prison. Also, I feel like hardware stores need to have red flag alerts go off when people purchase "burial kit" supplies, don't you think? 🤔
Some have started unofficially keeping tabs on these kinds of purchases, I don't know how they decided to come up with the system but it seems to be largely employee-led. I was purchasing supplies to clean out and finish up a REALLY dumpy basement: gloves, contractor bags, a shovel (for lifting/moving the heaviest crumbly bits of wall gathered in the corners), cleaning supplies, sand and gravel, and a large amount of clothing line style rope. (For making hanging planters! I was just trying to plan ahead for the plants!) The cashier told me there was something wrong with how they rung it up and they needed a manager to come approve the removal/re-adding of the cleaners. Within 5 minutes, there were 4 other employees standing at enough of a distance to not be crowding me, but any could have grabbed me if I ran. When the manager came up, they wanted to see my ID and, if possible, to pay with a card; I had been trying to pay with cash, it just seemed easier, I didn't think about how it looked. The whole time I was soft held in transaction limbo, the shift manager explained that this was they did if someone bought more than 3 "TV crime items," whether or not cash was being used. They didn't call the police, I was able to buy my "finish the basement" supplies, but they'd made sure I was on store cameras from multiple angles for even longer. They got 5 extra witnesses seeing me buy my lot, including the 2 who saw my ID and would be able to take down my name. They had gotten me to pay with a card, instead of the cash, so there was now a card number attached to the purchase date, that would line up with security cam timestamps. If I'd been buying those things for a sketchy reason, I have no doubt that hardware store would have turned over EVERYTHING by the time the police showed up. But bc it's unofficial and they can't do anything but try to socially weird people into not acting creepy, or collect advance data in case they do, it's hard to say it's "doing something" more than just.... Doing nothing. But I wish that was the norm. I do. I feel like 10 minutes of judgmental eyeballs every time this happens would really change how confident people feel going in, saying "I'm fixing a toilet" at checkout, and successfully buying a damn death kit.
@@royceroyce7715 that is incredible! Good on those employees for noticing something "sketchy" 👏 now there's a manager who clearly watches all the same RU-vid videos we do! 😂

Rude and unprofessional of them. And your line about “fixing a toilet” at the checkout? Why would you even say that? Who asked? Do you get harassed and asked what you’re doing every time you go to a hardware store? I’d maybe try a different place to shop if these are the experiences you have lol. @@mycreativeheart4159 Yes, our legal system is better as it pertains to murderers and deviants! The only real problem we have here is the importance of conviction rates to DAs that lead to some ridiculous plea deals, but even then 90% of plea deals involving 1st degree murder are no less than 25yrs. Also in America our legal system has a sentencing guideline for any violent offense where the convict has to serve 85% of any conviction. The only place in America that hands out sentences less than 25yrs or life for murder is Chicago and thats because the state of Illinois is run by slimeballs from top to bottom that purposefully hand out lighter sentences for a specific demographic in our country! Overall, our legal system is just about the best in the world when it comes to serving justice... its just that for the most part, certain members that make up 13% of our population are allowed to do as they please up until they take someones life! Im also not basing my opinion off of this one case mind you, i watch a ton of true crime videos and have seen Canada and England screw the pooch over a hundred times when it comes to sentencing for the most heinous crimes!
OMG My home town!!!!! you are so kind how you approach these horrible stories. Thank you for your uploads. Calgary is a beautiful city and has always been safe and friendly. Sad what the person who is supposed to love at some time would do this to them.., May Lisa rest in peace!
I've been to a few Canadian cities, growing up and living right on the border. But I've wanted to visit Calgary for so long. It's always looked so epic to me
I thought the definition of second degree murder was not planning it and deciding to do it in the heat of the moment. What a disgracefully short sentence. People, please don’t just settle! If you’re not compatible, you’re not compatible. Infinitely better choice to wait and find a better relationship. Proposing after a breakup isn’t romantic, it’s fucking weird.
I might have been inclined to believe it was self defense if he hadn't gone through the effort to hide the body and elaborately lie about it. I feel pretty confident to say it was a murder.
Absolutely disgraceful sentence. How can you accidentally strangle someone to death?! English sentencing is just as diabolical which is why noone reports anything anymore and we live in a world of should be prisoners. RIP Lisa. My thoughts go to you, your children and family💔💖
Adrian has compassion and empathy in his voice when he talks about the victims in these cases. He doesn't sensationalize the stories and I like that. He tells these stories with class, and when he throws in the odd phrase such as, "that would sure f*ck me up", it hits me funny bone. None of these stories are ever funny, but I do feel satisfied when the perpetrator gets a little, "f*cked up", especially when (in my opinion) they haven't received enough justice.
If there is one thing I have learned in life, the best thing you can do to solidify an already unstable and violent relationship is have some kids. If nothing else can fix it, bringing on another huge financial and emotional investment will. I guess adopting a dog was too much of a responsibility..... wow, dude got 7 years for killing someone? Holy crap, I have personally known people who served more time for drug charges.
My parents literally did that, though. My mom had fertility issues and miscarriages. For reference my mom met my dad while he was in prison with her brother...so yeah. Incredibly toxic to the point of cops called multiple times, multiple physical fights before me. My dad told my mom if they can't have a baby their relationship is over. After me it just got worse for many years. My dad ended up fucking my mom up so bad she's now disabled, as he pushed her and she fell through a weak spot in a shoddy trailer, which messed her ligaments and other stuff in her leg and knee, she got surgery but didn't work. After that it started settling down...after I had to pull them off each other multiple times as a little kid, which would drag me into it. They really cursed me with so many problems im left to deal with myself, or just, die, I guess. it makes me so mad when I see this because I know the kids are going to have so many problems that they'll probably have to deal with for the rest of their life. They probably didn't receive the nurture they need to develop correctly emotionally since the parents were too busy fighting and enveloped in their own toxicity. The parents probably started targeting the kids at some point. *This* can happen. It's just.... So dumb and there needs to be something to stop these couples from being parents
@@nunceccemortiferiscultu7826 not always the mother sweaty, you've never been a woman desperately trying to get an abortion with doctors and others trying to talk you out of it, or straight up saying no, have you?
@@cruisepaige Sometimes the U.S. courts fail miserably with netting out sentences. But as you stated. The UK, Canada and Australia just go through the motions. Lives apparently mean little. Very disturbing.
The judge in this case should be fired for sheer idiocy. This should have at least been second degree murder. I wonder if the police listened to that voice-mail? I would think a expert would be able to tell it was spliced together pretty easily.
I would've gone to the cops immediately if this were my daughter. I hate when the family waits because it gives the partner more time to hide evidence.
I think he pretty much got away with cold blooded murder. The criminal system should not be surprised if he does it again. He has learned a lesson, however, I don’t think it is the one they wanted him to learn. It is good to hear that her children are doing well. I hope and pray the whole family finds peace, joy and happiness. ❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏
I'm dumbfounded he's walking free! WTF?!? The justice system failed once again. Her poor mother. I can't even imagine what Lisa went thru. ❤️🕊️🙏 I feel so bad for the children. Way too often, we see children left behind because of domestic violence. 😔
Little do you know I watch these videos to fall asleep. I'll never have a coffee at this hour, hahaha. In all fairness you make excellent videos. Keep up the good work and thank you for putting me to bed every night
Ah, Canada. The land that can inspire equal parts awe and outrage. I forget the exact number, but a strangulation takes upwards of five minutes (and maybe up to ten, I think). Plenty of time for him to realize what he was doing. Plenty of time for him to watch the life fade from her eyes and for her to stop struggling. More than enough time for him to stop. So yes, I definitely feel this was a murder. Even if the manner was overlooked, the spyware, coverup, etc was enough to show that he had zero regret.
Finally gave your channel a chance yesterday; and I have absolutely NO regrets. The amount of information and detail that is covered in such a small amount of time is phenomenal.
It is absolutely disgusting he got out in 5 years basically. He showed indifference in hiding it. If he did it and it was not intended, he should have reported it. Now a family is screwed over because of this. If Lisa grew up to be close to her mom, I hope the grandkids do too. I hope they never contact their father again.
That sentence is an absolute joke! Anyone who murders someone needs to be locked up, they are a danger to the public. So, now we can wait until his next relationship goes bad……
This is a wretched case! He killed her, not out of self defense. Then the things he did to her body and the poor mum are beyond vile. Not to mention telling those poor wee ones ‘mum’s skived off and not coming back’. My heart hurts for all but him. Brilliant detective work, positively brilliant!
As a Canadian I think it's disgusting how these criminals get a slap on the wrist. Like the man who cannibalized a young man on greyhound. He's out in society already deemed not a threat to the public...ffs
I feel like self-defense killers don't usually amass a collection of voice clips from the person they eventually kill in preparation for concealing their deaths after eventually having to kill them.
I love your channel. I just hope that you take care because as much as all of your hard work is truly appreciated, I’m fairly certain that these stories have to take a small toll on your own mental health.
