See? You read so many books that I’ve even heard of and I’m pretty well-read(or so I thought) 😂. You are always insightful, witty and inspiring, Grant. Hope you’re well. We had our 4th of July celebration yesterday and I had neighbors over for drinks and food. It’s my first summer in Maine and it was fun! I love to cook so I had a blast! I’m trying to read my Dennis Lehane novel but I just finished The Lord of the Rings for the first time and I’m having a severe book hangover. 😵
Hello Nikki! I think Simenon is well known in Europe, but not in North America, considering he has written hundreds of books, you would think the used bookstores would be crammed full of them. But I only discovered him last year. It sounds like you had a really nice 4th of July. It must be really special when you move to a new place. I'm happy the relocation to Maine is turning out so well for you!
I recently came across a copy of The Blue Room. I look forward to reading it upon your recommendation. Two other "Train" books of note are Closely Watched Trains by Bohumil Hrabal, and Train Dreams by Denis Johnson--not that they have any other thing or themes in common. Just my recommendation. Thank you as always for this review.
Hello SalMaris, Thanks a lot for writing. I have read Train Dreams, but didn't make the connection. I hope you enjoy The Blue Room. Please let me know what you think of it!
and, one more for the list! (here, in Europe, is a very well-known author). Even though I haven't read this one yet, it sounds like you've captured the essence very well! (and as for the final part...ah ah, the image popped right into my head!)
Hello Cristina, if you have a good used book store and can find a copy I would recommend it. It's quite a lot of fun, and I love the European setting. (But you know that!)
