It’s because they didn’t expect it to be such a hit like it was, they didn’t even have any merch ready for the show & people were literally making and selling Grogu dolls/merch on Etsy for like 6 months before they even brought any official merch out, it was 100% supposed to finish at season 2 and they didn’t want to let go of their new cash cow, it’s also why they rushed and brought back Grogu in boba fett & didn’t even bother to explain it in season 3. @@bowencreer3922 Sooo, kinda crap? First seasons of new shows can be forgiven for being slow, as long as they spend that narrative worldbuilding time wisely to set up some satisfying payoffs for future series with mystery, intrigue and depth. The rush to get grogu back before season 3, and the fact that you can condense the important bits of that season down to around 3 episodes, makes me think somebody higher up decided the show isn't going to deviate from Din and Geogu adventuring together. Probably forever going by that ending. So whatever they were planning had to be mopped up quickly, resulting in this mess.

What worked for the first 2 seasons was the feeling that Mandolorian was like the old Kung Fu tv show. Hero wanders from place to place, having unrelated adventures with only some loose overarching narrative threads. S3 was more like some weird medieval show with knights and armor trying to reclaim their homeland, like some King Arthur tale, which was a total shift in tone. Not to mention very weak with the constant "this is the way" cultish response every time a plot point needed to happen but they couldn't be bothered writing proper event development. The visuals also got progressively more referential as the season went on, with simple cut and paste of scenes from previous Star Wars movie, such as the little black droid and the red guards, until it was just wall-to-wall copying of previous concepts.

Honestly here, I really enjoyed Season 3 - subjectively. And I know it was not good - objectively. The weirdest thing in there is still Grogu, who feels like the creators couldn't decide if he's a jedi apprentice with over 50 years of training, or a cute plushie merch and went for both. He looks to be perfectly able to understand people and seemingly knows what they're talking about - even when Din or the Armorer had little history lessons with him - yet he doesn't speak a single word and makes sounds like a 1-year old toddler instead. I seriously think the writers had plans with growing him up and actually made the story according to it, but Disney was afraid the show would lose views if they gave us a matured, more serious character with long traumas instead of a cutesy glutton.
@rockencook
@rockencook Год назад
Good review. I felt the same way. I enjoyed the program because it expands the SW Universe while at the same time being aware of some glaring plot contrivances and omissions, and thin character development. For example, Mando handing over the dark saber to Bo Katan at the end of Ep 7 was awkward. If she legit won it in Ep 2, why say nothing until then? And then only to have the thing crushed an episode later by a squeeze of the hand by Moff Gideon? Ridiculous. A 1000 year old legendary weapon designating the leader of the Mandalorians handed around and broken like some child's forgotten toy was really disappointing. Someone should have given that more thought. "This is the way" can only cover up so much stupid.

@cgates2

It’s the opposite. Grogu wasn’t supposed to be in this season. He was always designed to be a prop, not a character. He can’t talk, he can’t walk, he can’t fight, he can’t emote, he can’t grow. And his “character arc” was completed last season. Grogu very plainly had no role in this season’s story, yet they’ve been trying to shoehorn him in randomly however they can. Yoda was 900 when he died. Grogu is 50. That would make Grogu roughly five years old. Which makes sense given he famously looks like baby of Yoda’s species. At this rate, it would take another 80 years before Grogu is even a “teenager”.
@brianpinkey676
@brianpinkey676 Год назад
And nearly thirty of those years were heavily traumatic for him (order 66 19BBY - "Mando episode 1" 9ABY). He's growing every time we see him. He almost said "This is the Way" to Bo and Din. He used to hide in his hover egg, now he's taking out Beskar troopers, standing down two fighting Mandalorians, and taking on Petorian Guards. If he came back from months of training with Luke and was OP everyone would be complaining about that. He was cheap merchandise, but he also has the most potential for growth, and mark my words he will grow to be a powerful Mandalorian. Personally, I think the representation of the passage of time has been the biggest problem with this show. It's been MANY cycles since the first episode, and I bet like myself many people thought it was only a couple of cycles.

Lol spot on regarding the helmets. She's beating this chunk of metal as if making a shield for Middle Earth, and then emerges with this perfectly casted 3D printed helmet, complete with a paint job. Why didn't she use a cast? It makes no sense, how did they make the armour for the clones and other fighters, was it all done by hand. These Mandalorians keep their helmets on, to what? It's like they have to switch their brains off for their entire life, and what do they get out of it - cool outfits and a jetpack. Why don't you just get the outfit and then leave, take your helmet off and carry on being a bounty hunter. I don't get it, and the show has never explained why or how people would submit to it. There's no promise of eternal paradise at the end, right
@brianpinkey676
@brianpinkey676 Год назад
I think the show did a fairly good job explaining the children of the watch. They find young kids who are orphans (Din's flashbacks and later Grogu's flash backs), or their natural offspring (Ragnar Visla). Honor and loyalty are paramount in their culture so why would someone who grew up with those lessons even think of betraying them? Then we get Bo calling them religous zealots or a cult which clues us in (and links back to prior material) that Mandalorians as a race are war faring people much like Vikings, we know from earth who will fight everyone and everything that they can. This show introduced us to Din and Grogu, we learned who they are, and now we're learning who they are to their people. And season four is being set up to grow grogu into a power Mandalorian. Or at least that's my prediction of the next season, if we get another. As for the helmet, it's pretty foolish to believe that that didn't take days or weeks to make. But the age of the kid in the helmet is a pretty good concern. I mean heads don't all grow that much but they should be a young adult before they take the creed. Yes, they should have a helmet at that age but they're too young to have the strict no removal. Think high school team jerseys that get passed down to the next class.

While I thought that it was more fun than the first one, having all that build up to get Baby Yoda to Asoka only for her to say that he should go find Luke instead and episode with her becoming trailer for her own show was such a waste. Then, all the moments when they tried to fix Rise of Skywalker, that was lame too. But worst moment was having Luke appear and the way how it was handled. But I would be OK with all of that if they decided to stick to the decision they made to have Baby Yoda and Mandalorian split. Like, it would be obvious that they would reunite in a season or two, but having it happen in different show that aired in between seasons was something beyond ridiculous, it made me from intrigued to couldn't care less about future of this series.

I hate to be the guy that said I told you so, but I will be. The Blandalorian wasn't spectacular to begin with. Sure, it was a step up from the Sequels, but that's like saying a stale cracker is a step up from feces. But that's Disney Star Wars. Either they butcher the OT and destroy those characters for their cardboard or their "new" stuff is watered down trite. For me, the saddest part isn't even the death of Star Wars(though, that's bad); it's that the old Expanded Universe died for this crap. There will be a whole generation of fans who will NEVER know it existed. That to me is unforgivable. Yeah, the EU had its stinkers, but it had some great stories as well. All in all, I urge everyone who is disatistifed with Disney SWs and wants to give the EU a chance, seek out Heir to the Empire, KOTOR, or any of the books or games within that era. @@doug176 TLDR: There are faults in Star Wars just like ever other media, but I'm not going to let the few bad or weird things detract from the epic tales that are being told. No? Take Book of Boba Fett. In legends he goes back to the planet his father led a covert, of sorts, and takes over leading those people. Kinda the same thing he did in the show, albeit with really poor script and side characters. But Boba still gave up the life of a bad ass bounty hunter and that was the biggest complaint I remember from that show. "Boba's no longer a bad ass boo hoo." Boba is also pushing 50 at the start of the Book, so yea he's slowing down but he's still fast enough to kill Cad Bain with his gaffy stick. In this show, people complain that the small nomadic Children of the Watch run out of fuel on their planet. While the larger group of actively rebellious Night Owls have plenty of ships, supplies, and more warriors. Of course Axe would have more fuel to make it to space, and of course at that point the Night Owls would supply the Children with more fuel and other supplies. Instead people just assume that every Mandalorian is the same when that's not even close to the truth. Din Djarin was fundamentally in uniting Mandalorians and returning them to Mandalore. What more were people wanting? Din has had zero intent on leading anyone, he immediately tries to give the dark saber away. I don't have a problem with Din taking second seat to Bo during this season when the payoff was getting back to Mandalore. We saw the Mythasour in live action twice for crying out loud! There is so much about this season that was prime Star Wars. The Dark Saber is centuries old I believe and people are upset that if got broken. I don't know the ins and out of Beskar metallurgy but to say it would weaken over hundreds of years isn't that far of a stretch. And we now have to option of a new saber like Maul, Ahsoka, and Luke all made from prior broken or taken sabers. They've incorporated an interconnected theme in Star Wars like we have in MCU. It's frustrating to see people ignore all the good we get because they don't know right off the bat what it is, or because they had a thought of what it should be before we got it. Again, sorry about the long response but if people would think before they type, they would probably enjoy this more.

Season 3 biggest problem for me was that it felt like a KIDS show. Season 1 and 2 had a healthy mix of being badass and still teenage friendly. I mean take the very first scene from season 1 episode 1 as a perfect example. It was badass cold and to the point, "I can bring you in cold, or i can bring you in warm". Show me 1 scene in all of season 3 that was anything close to that... The first episode of season 3 had fkn Sesame Street looking space pirates with cheesy Pirates of the Caribbean accents... It felt like i was watching a totally different show, and its not like it was TERRIBLE but after waiting years for the next season and getting what felt like a completely different show was extremely irritating....

Dark Star Forgive me if my fantasies might Seem a little shopworn I'm sure you've heard it all before. I wonder what's the right form Love songs written for you, It's been going down for years But to sing what's in my heart Seems more honest than the tears. I am curious, don't want to hurry us. I'm intrigued with us. Ain't this song a bust. I don't care, dark star. I met you several years ago, The times they were so strange, But I had a feeling. You looked into my eyes just once, An instant flashing by that we were stealing. Another time you felt so bad, And I wasn't any help at all as I recall. We didn't quite know what to do So we left the wanting be Still there for me and you. Dark star, I see you in the morning, Dark star, a' sleeping next to me. Dark star, let the memory of the evening Be the first thing that you think of When you open up your smile and see me, dark star. It's easy to be with you Even with the storms that rage Beneath your search for peace. We must make some time together Take the kids and find a world That's ours to keep. Now you've got me dreaming girl. It's been so long that I thought that I'd forgotten how. My heart is once again my soul. We touched, we did, you know we did, No more teasing now. Dark star, I see you in the morning, Dark star, a' sleeping next to me. Dark star, let the memory of the evening Be the first thing that you think of When you open up your smile and see me, dark star. Songwriters: Stephen Stills

I talked to someone about the fact 90% of the show was filler with about 2-3 episodes of actual story per season, and when I proved this by restructuring and cutting irrelevant scenes in season 3 to cover the first 4 episodes in 1. They called it an ADHD script and were grateful I wasn't a writer. As someone who has ADHD, that made me laugh because it showed he had no idea what that means. He also got mad that I cut Baby Yoda leaving to go get Bo Katan and just had Bo secretly follow Dim because he wanted the BABY to actually do things like an actual character and not be...well, a baby. That's the kind of fan The Mandalorian is cultivating.

This show is where good ideas go to die. The core concept of the episode is a great opportunity for Grogu to get some much-needed character development, but the writers completely screwed up the setup. The ticking clock build-up was lazy, the teaching moments between Mando and Grogu were shallow and insufficient for the story they were trying to tell, the timescale didn't match the action at all, and the whole situation was laughable at best. And that's before you even consider whether Grogu should have been present in the first place - this show has issues that no rewrite can solve at this point.

@@LiftYagami ..uh... obviously, I meant the fact that Baby Yoda was sent at all, not just cutting the scenes where a BABY navigated the ruins and caves to get back to the ship, somehow knowing how to use the navicomputer and communicate to the astromech to fly to another world to go get Bo, successfully communicate that Dim needed help, and accurately lead her back to the spot in a ruined city on a devastated planet where Dim is waiting. All before Dim is killed. That's why I said I would just have Bo secretly following them.

Great analysis as always. Thank you for pointing out that we can finally admit to ourselves that the show was never very good to begin with now that it has reached a sense shattering low. I cannot shake the feeling that the production of this season has been handed over to Haim Saban who aspires to make it reminiscent of his witless, charmless and creatively devoid Japanese/American fusion money machine “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers”. If you told me in the 90’s that I’d be equating something branded as Star Wars with that brainless drivel I would never have believed it. But here we are.

Much as it makes me sound like a Sadist, I actually would like to see chamberlain's reviews of the rest of the season! the level of shear, laconic snarkery here oozing from every phrase and description, is like the the equal and polar opposite force of the director's commentary tracks for She hulk or rings of power. By simply existing, reviews like this diametrically decrease the quantum of smugness in the world, which is something of an ecological necessity, given that we've already seen a huge change in temperament, and the hole planet teeters on the edge of a global arse age!

Mandalorians in KOTOR are what they should be; merciless, brutal spartan like warriors who have a warrior like culture. While I thought TCW was ok as a series, for me what Dave did with the Mandalorians I found incredibly lame. Even so, I find it amazing how none of that context is carried over into Mandolorian, or should I say Blandalorian. But that's Disney SWs.

I just feel when everybody loves the first season. They got worried. Then when they saw how the episode with Luke brought grown men to tears of joy. Right then and there they new it had to be destroyed . And that is exactly what they did. They have literally taken every single positive male hero and not only killed them off but have to totally emasculate them on there way out. Has nothing to do with promoting positive female inclusion. They don't care if the female or race swapped character is good. They just want all the strong males gone.

It was nice to see Bo Katan take charge & follow in her sister's footsteps & lead Mandalore back on the right track. In my opinion, this is just another case of people wanting to tear stuff down & people with ADHD getting tired of something as they're prone to do. I won't go near The Force Awakens trilogy but I've watched & enjoyed all the Disney+ series. Have they been perfect? No, but nothing is.

The first season of shows like this usually get a free pass if they're a little slow or heavy on exposition, as long as they're building a world and setting up the foundations of a satisfying narrative for future seasons to follow. If it turns out that long term narrative is nothing but a fossilized dog turd, no-one is going to look back on it's setup fondly. Discerning adult humans are allowed to change their opinions on something if it's reflected on badly later on down the line - the inability to do so rationally suggests immaturity of thought.

I know that the show is not as great as it could be, but you’re doing nothing else than criticizing, and for the most part it’s not even constructive. There is some good in the show that we need to point out. We can also point out that there’s bad going as well. However, just saying “it’s bad, Disney sucks” isn’t helping at all. I agree with you on the bad writing or at least it's made for children, but there’s a lot of good things too, like the development around the Mandalorian culture or father and son bonding with Mando and Grogu. Also the prequel and OT had lots of flaws and bad writting too, it's part of sw. I think stating that the show is of poor quality can be done but imo the way you do it is as lazy as Disney’s writting. A part from that I do think your video quality is great as always. It's just that I'm tired about hearing nothing but complaints. We actually need to remeber that without Disney we wouldn't have had any SW content.
