Manhattan Transfer wow! Los dos vocalistas masculinos se conocieron por accidente o coincidencia (ya avanzamos lo suficiente para tener por cierto que tales cosas no existen). En Nueva York una tarde empezó a caer un verdadero diluvio y estos dos caballeros corrieron hacia un taxi que estaba esperando cliente detenido por el semáforo. Claro que cada uno entró por diferentes puertas de la parte trasera. Decidieron compartir el taxi y conversaron. Tenían exactamente la misma situación de vida: contaban con trabajos muy bien remunerados pero tenían el sueño de ser cantantes. Ambos habían estudiado canto y música desde la edad.de colegio pero optaron por tener una carrera fuera de la música, ya que eso les daba una seguridad económica. Ambos tenían el sueño de hacer algo con sus voces, dado que tenían una estabilidad laboral, en sus ratos libres. Las cosas se fueron dando poco a poco, después de que empezaron a juntarse los fines de semana. Consiguieron a las dos cantantes femeninas y ensayaron ya más seguido, obtuvieron las primeras presentaciones, le volaron la teja a todo el mundo. Renunciaron a los trabajos que tenían. Y empezó la leyenda de Manhattan Transfer
Best cover of this is from the Carson show. The audio sucks, but... as Cheryl winds into the final the mic lead falls out. Cheryl realizes she has dead mic looks down & dives for it. Meanwhile the others see whats happened, & fill with the chorus a extra beat. Cheryl comes back up wi the mic live & hits the final flourish exactly on the beat and nails it perfectly.
They could harmonize the Yellow Pages and people would buy it for an album... They don't just do covers, they make them their own and make it better...
These costumes are a weird blend of American 50s, & 1980s Japanese hipster. I lived in Japan 1983-85 & remember the teens & twenty year olds post punk styles.
Laurel Masse' does this like no other. She was the perfect voice for the part in the group. Unfortunately she chose to leave the group, Cheryl has been a good replacement.
