My Dad used to deliver newspapers to the Girl's Service League when he was a boy. He had fond memories of that. I remember the Save the Scott Home effort. It's sad so see the mansion surrounded by the Cook's Children's Medical Center now. Thanks for making your video!

Thanks for sharing this video on the grand old House .. I believe Baylor Hospital or Children's hospital has now purchased the house and land . I hope they keep it as it is Throughout the past three decades , my company did most of the masonry restoration work on Thistle Hill . We tuck pointed all of the chimneys with matching mortar color and sealed the bricks .. we tuck pointed all around the house . At one point , especially on the East facing , the basement walls were bowing in .. we had to remove soil and rebuild some portions of wall and repair many cracks through the basement, strengthening the walls as we went , to prevent further movement. The basement alone on this house is huge ..you could probably put 1000 people in it , standing as a group .. huge . We worked on most of the auxiliary buildings as well .. basically , anything that needed masonry repairs , we did that work . It's a beautiful house ..Ft Worth has lost many beautiful homes and other buildings..we worked on many of them .. and still do , from time to time .

We had our wedding reception there in November 1980 . Quite a party ! That wife is history . So glad Thistle Hill the old Scott Home ( as we used to call it ) is still there ! Fun Fact - during the renovations that were taking place a few years before our reception there , they sponsored some killer haunted houses there during Halloween Season to raise money .... It's said that Butch & Sundance Kid crashed a party there while they were in Fort Worth hanging low under their aliases .

As a child I thought the house was beautiful and would pretend I would live there one day. After going inside during one of the haunted house tours which was amazing made me want to live there even more. It is a beautiful home and I am glad it is still standing in Fort Worth today. Thank you for the video.

The town was actually named for her aunt Electra, the car was yes named for her. She had a similar mansion in nearby Highland Park, (Dallas) AT the SAME time, in addition to her apartment in NYC and her ranch homes. What he didn't mention was that she was pretty outrageous for her time, did not hesitate to speak her mind, aaaand was a renowned sculptor.

My parents lived right across the street from Thistle Hill Mansion in the Westchester House Apartments right after they got married. We grew up in Ft. Worth so this iconic landmark was a constant presence in our early lives. Toured it on occasion.

My great grandmother and great aunt lived in Westchester House. I grew up swimming in the pool next to Cross Keys Restaurant and ate at The Colonial Cafeteria next to Thistle Hill almost nightly. A lot of memories tied up in all these places. Another Great aunt and uncle lived in Electra, TX, so I spent time there too.

My mom was a docent when I was growing up and I used to hang out and explore between tours. I've been inside the foundation and every nook and cranny of that property. We also visited El Castile and the ranch. Fond memories of decorating the house for the holidays and the time we found Electra's wedding veil in the back of a storage cabinet and returned it to the family.

We visited THISTLE HILL in 1983 - what a beautiful home so very well maintained and cared for. In fact I just extracted photographs from a photo album of THISTLE HILL which was beautifully furnished. We took many photographs and my children enjoyed our visit to THISTLE HILL and so we enjoyed seeing all the beautiful furniture. WONDERFUL PART OF THE FORT WORTH HISTORY. Thanks for sharing THISTLE HILL I recognized the house immediately.

Oh nooooo. Not open for tours!??? That makes me very sad. When I was a girl-I was a Girl Scout, and we had week long summer camps there, and on the last night of the camp we would all bring our sleeping bags and sleep in the entry way and all along the stairs. In the 3rd floor is where the BALLROOM is, where all those fancy party’s were…soooo neat, with all the secret servant passages. 😂 it was such an awesome experience When we grew up, my best friend got married there and I was so excited then to get to be in her wedding for so many reasons! I’m sure lots of us have memories of thistle hill, the Scott house, Electra Mansion and seeing that the general public is missing out on all that history, makes me sad.

@@keepitre4l554 - I am a new subscriber. If the DFW area is where you call home there is another fascinating you may want to take a look at. Its not a home, its the Adolphus Hotel in Downtown Dallas. It is still a working hotel and is owned now by the Marriott Chain and is five start all the way. However, I am sure they will be more than willing to give you a tour and explain its history as it is part of their Signature Series of Hotels. It was built in 1908 as I recall and opened in 1913. The first thing that will strike you is the German Name of the Hotel "Adolphus" if you know your history and a beer drinker you will know the name Adolpnus Bush. Yup its the same guy. After founding Budweiser Beer he decided that Dallas needed a five star hotel. If you do a little research you will also find out about hauntings and the like that are supposed to take place there. It is also rumored that the Klu Klux Klan met there. Just an idea if you are interested. Great work and thank you.
