Well, Mr. Widget, you CANNOT go up a hill without leaning forward or you tip over backwards. Nothing worse than an able-bodied person trying to sell adaptive equipment - they have no clue what living in a chair is like and the obstacles/challenges incurred every day. The Flex pushrail looks interesting. Love my Spinnergy wheels! Frog Legs ROCK!! Only caveat to them: they contribute to caster chatter/wobble (one of the most annoying issues with wheelchairs). I consider wheelchairs that have this problem as glorified shopping carts. Anti-tip bars are great for stability, but are completely unusable in real life, outside, because they prevent you from being able to get up/down curbs - which are EVERYWHERE! Been using a wheelchair for 25+ years now and shake my head at some of the designed junk that continually gets pushed as the latest-greatest.

Sometimes that’s true that able-bodied people don’t know what wheelchair users need. I will say though, that my wheelchair guy is not one of those people! 😊 Craig Rowitz is awesome, so if anyone in the Cincinnati, OH area needs a wheelchair or accessories, go to Care Medical, and Craig will hook you up!

No one is perfect, we just learn through feedback and improving education. Able bodied people can be the back bone or the legs if you wheel of our ability to access the world around us. They might not always get it right, though we don't either so together we can be a good team.

All due respect, everyone's needs have become so different with the wider abilities of those using chairs. Some don't do speeds to cause chatter; others only excersize their freedom with the feeling of safety wheelie bars provide. No reason to feel such anger. Js 🤷

Working on a project for my PTA student program and I was trying to find adaptive equipment for patients with limited hand use, the power assist wheels are really cool.

I have a Quickie Helium Wheelchair with Alber E-Motion Wheels M-15. The whole cost for my chair and wheels was just over £10,000. The price for some of these fantastic pieces of equipment are the only downfall. 👎🤷‍♂️

The problem is that most of these add-ons cost as much - sometimes more - as the wheelchair.
@wildkatoz

Yes way over the top prices! The units that were advertised as cheap never get to market and if they do like the GRIT lever chair and wheels, only sells their expensive model to users at $3000plus their $300 model is only sold to overseas charities that have to buy 100 or more at a time to get that pricing.!

In the UK Patrick Toleno's Spinergy Power add on costs almost £7000 I could find a small new car for that. Not all Wheelchair users have this kind of money. My disability payments are less than £800 pm. Again, lets rip off the disabled people.

Look on EBay and Craig's List, you can find used power assist devices for a fraction of the price. My used SmartDrive works fine. Got it for $900 when new it would cost $7,000

The problem is that it's incredibly challenging to make make any of these, in a strong, sturdy, and cheap way that is still safe. I worked with an engineering team that was designing a style of ski for the front wheels for pushing wheelchairs on snow. They chose to test it in sand, because there theory was that if it can be pushed through sand, it would be fine through snow. Their design worked surprisingly well, but they were very challenging for someone independently in the snow. The product they designed worked, but being made out of all aluminum, different fittings, etc, it would be very challenging to make an affordable option that would still be convenient for the person putting them on and off.

Hi, my Name is Christian, I from Germany and my Wheelchair is a Sopur Xenon 2 Hybrid, my Wheels are from Alber the Model is Twion M. I find that the Wheels are perfect for Hills or all Terrain, the Battery Power is enough for 20 km and the max Speed is 10 km/h. My Wish for the Wheels is more reach... for Example 40 or 50km but thats the only Wish 😉. Your Video is awsome, keep it up. Sorry for my English, it could be better 😋😎 Best Wishes from my Side 😉

At about 2:10, what's he talking about "that's what the therapists would like" if you're pushing up a hill in a wheelchair?? ..you lean forward so you don't push yourself back or fall backwards.. this guy...lol I would like to see him saying that and try to demonstrate pushing up a hill sitting perfectly upright lol (unless your in a big hostpital like chair with the wheels located far behind you..)

Personally, I think it could be possible to lean back with proper wheelie bars and this device. Still not going to be easy to go up hills, but if it has a 2 to 1 gear ratio, and you can lean back and push off of the chair as well, theoretically it would be more effective for going up hill and take less effort, correct?

I don’t use a chair, I don’t have family who do…why am I watching this and finding it fascinating? That electric add on is amazing. I always wonder if there is some kind of slider you could attach to a rim so your hands don’t get so dirty. A friend used to get so dirty because the rims would go down close to the ground and then she’d touch them to move.

I received a tiny cut on the top of my head when popping a wheelie to get into my apartment I shared with my sister and her then fiancé now ex-husband. As I was trying to get inside, I popped a wheelie onto the threshold of the door and in doing so I popped a little too much causing my wheelchair to flip backwards and I hit my head on the cement (I didn’t realize until after I had to “finish my fall out of wheelchair”) how serious the situation could have been. I was dizzy so was taken to the hospital. When the doctor examined me he found a practically microscopic cut (too small for a band-aid) on the top/back of my head. Also, that manual wheelchair did not have a seat belt.

msoviet409 msoviet409 I understand your comment was posted a year ago, however just incase you were still wondering, I have had my "Alber E-motion Wheels" for my Quickie Helium wheelchair now for around 6-7 years and they are fantastic. Expensive, but life changing. They have traveled over seas with me on holiday to the USA too! If you are able-bodied enough to be able to propel yourself with assistance from the wheels, then I would 110% recommend these "Alber E-Motion Wheels". 😊 Regarding insurance, I bought mine outright as most insurance companies won't cover them (or at least the full amount which is roughly £5000 ($6499)). I send you my best wishes.

Gosh the shoulders! As a woman with sci it’s a big issue because women have less natural upper body strength. After 10 years I wrecked my shoulders and now use a traditional powerchair fulltime.

ANOTHER APPROACH ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VmyM7xYZL4Y.html Got BMX wheels w/pneumatics installed. Now it goes down over a curb without having to stop and ease the rear wheels down. Going up the curb, huge improvement. No struggle, just pull and up the wheel comes. ......Wish there was a good solution to the problem of going up hills but nothing I've seen on the accessory market looks suitable. I'm planning to install a small (about 60 watts) motor geared 'way down for going up steep ramps and hills. I'll be slow, but that's better than having to regard it same as a brick wall.
