MGM wanted to release the animated Tom Sawyer movie in theaters. It was their attempt to redeem themselves after the backlash NIMH 2 got. But of course that didn’t happen. However I think Rhett Akins and Mark Wills are horribly miscasted as Tom and Huck. Not only do they not sound like kids but how can kids sing in strong mature voices? I’m guessing MGM was like Disney made a furry version of Robin Hood, why not do that with Tom Sawyer?

That's wild, I didn't know that. I wonder why they didn't get a theatrical release. As for the musical performances, I personally think the voices they use work pretty well. Musicals tend to have a kind of unreality occur whenever a song is running. (I forget the term for it, cause its been awhile since I've talked about the mechanics of musical theatre, so I'm just gonna call it Musical Time.) Musical time can often break spatial and temporal reality to convey strong emotions or examine internal struggles outside of the main progression of the story; like, the vaudeville version of Hamlet soliloquizing. A good example would be the song "Hook, Line, and Sinker". Tom isn't actually breaking into Becky's house to confess his undying love fore her, the visuals of the scene just help to support the emotion felt in the lyrics and vocal performance. In that sense, I think it's actually beneficial to have the song sung by someone older, because they're a trained professional and can better get the point across. I do like your idea of having younger sounding voices in the dialogue scenes though, especially with the three leads. I think it would be interesting to examine the juxtaposition between dialogue and singing scenes if two sets of voice actors had been used; kids for the talking, and country stars for the music.+

Also, I loved Disney's Robin Hood as a kid! :) This is the first time I've heard anybody besides me bring it up in over a decade. So, thank you for that

You going to check out Huckleberry Finn adaptations?

Yes, though, it might be a minute before that gets released. I'm working on a video about Hyperion, by Dan Simmons at the moment, so It would probably be after that. Have any specific adaptations you'd recommend?
