I never considered them Legendary to begin with as it was clear from the get go that they were just their own group of Pokemon. I think they were just lislabeled from the beginning which is now corrected. Type Null and Silvally too

Well thats actually what the definition of mythical is. Stories told on something that can't be proven to be real, but the same thing can be said for a lot of legendary pokémon. The differences between the two are slim, if any. It never really made sense to me. Legendary, Mythical, whatever lol

​​@@derekosgood3230 legendary pokemon are strong pokemon proven to be real that have legends about their power and strength. Mythicals on the other hand, aren't proven to exist and a normal person would probably tell you theyre not real and are just myths. Kinda like how criptids are in the real world. Legendary Pokemon are sometimes even part of the region's culture and folklore. Maybe mythicals should be called criptic Pokemon for a more accurate term.

We do see dex entries of it being mentioned in “another region”. Could one day give us whatever that region is

I think technically speaking, only five would be needed once Z-A comes out, as completing a home dex up to Gen 8 gives a magearna. (Granted, if you would want all forms, you would still need normal magearna to be released)

Actually that's just the only way to get Gmax Melmetal. You can't get it from GO and you can't feed one Max Soup to make it Gmax. So I have to assume that the goal there was just to push people to use HOME.

I guess maybe some-in universe of course-believe it isn’t actually from a mew and they are just saying it is. Like if I made a clone and claimed the dna was from Bigfoot, but did not have an actual Bigfoot on me to prove it, there’d be a lot of people who would argue I didn’t actually create this thing from a Bigfoot

They also should be restricted to one time events. You should always be able to catch a mythical through in game processes. Not because you didn’t make it to Japan back in 2006 or you lost internet for 2 weeks.

I could be wrong but I think that’s true. Pretty sure it’s a subclass of legendary. If not, then that’s how I’ve always seen it lol 😂

@@lumiosepost That is precisely how I see it too, a sub category that has no real meaning. I don’t really know why Walking Wake and such are not legendary as they are 1 per game while Miraidon/Koraidon are essentially a 1 per game Paradox too

I guess it depends on what you consider an event. Red & Blue only had 150 pokemon, but shortly after the game was released Mew was announced in Nintendo Power magazine. They held a contest to give Mew away to 151 lucky players and that was it. That was the only legit way to get Mew. Everyone else had to get their hands on a gameshark and fiddle with the game's code.

@BetterThanDoomWithAZ kind of makes it even more mythical with it's playground rumor status.

​@@BetterThanDoomWithAZ They also gave it away at a Toys R Us event. Mew hardly counts in the grand scheme of things, though, because it was the trend setter and wasn't even supposed to be in the game in the first place.

My reasoning is for a number of reasons: 1) it has never been referred to as a mythical by the official source whereas EVERY mythical has 2) it is coded into the game as a paradox, not a mythical 3) Gouging Fire and Raging Bolt, its counterparts, are not mythical. 4) all of the same rules can be applied to its version counterpart, Iron Leaves

Oh, and 5) it is eligible for use in VGC and battle spot. Mythicals are banned from VGC and battle spot, unless it is a special circuit that allows them (which is not presently the case)

They’re definitely different. Makes sense though. All games have changed a good bit. I mean look at Tears of the Kingdom vs the OG Zelda games

They used to be Japanese, but not anymore. The 3D characters just look ugly. SV is the snap that made fans quit, especially after the dex and Exp. Share scrap.

Thats interesting--I wasn't around in the gen 1 days, so as far as I can remember, the term was at least used in gen 3. Would be cool to find out where it started!

@@lumiosepost Yeah I didn't realize people were using it until probably Gen 6 or 7. I kind of fell off at gen 5 so I noticed as I got back into it.

The term "Mythical" started with the release of Gen5/BW for all other regions of the world other than Japan cuz they were the only ones to correctly classify them separate from Legendary (and Korea iirc) It was done by GF to fix the f-up that the previous translation teams had made. Arceus, Mew, Deoxys, Darkrai, etc, they were never Legendary, they had their own unique category since Gen1 but only in the original versions of the games (it was "special" or something like that). When they translated the games into English they got it wrong and listed everything as "Legendary". By Gen5 GF started doing the translations themselves, and so they fixed that error
