I don't think Renalla favoured Ranni over her other children. It's just that Caria is a matriarchal society, and Ranni, being y'know a woman, was going to be queen even though she is the third born. It's never shown or stated that Renalla didn't love Radhan or Rykard less because they were male. They chose their paths because they wanted to pursue their own ambitions, Radhan as a second lord of the battlefield and Rykard... Okay, I don't know what he wanted, but the point still stands. Also, in Rellana's helm's description, it's said that Renalla gifted a part of her hair to Rellana as a parting gift, showing they had a good relationship, Rellana most likely stayed in the land of shadow because she was in love with Messmer even though he didn't love her back. Finally... both them simped for homicidal red-haired fanatics... I mean, sisters, be sisters.

Ehh, given that Messmer is Radagon's son, kinda weird to discard your family name to follow the son of your sister's ex husband(half nephew in law?). Not surprised, George's touch and all.
@gustavonomegrande I can see how you'd think that, but as far as I understand the timeline, yes, Radagon and Renalla were married, but Rellana joined Messmers crusade before they split, so no it's not weird.
On the topic of Rellana's age, she has definitely been around for a while. Given an astrologer became queen and astrologers used to be neighbors with the Fire Giants and the Furnace Golems (relics/weapons of the unsung war) have Fire Giant heads on them, they can be considered clues from when she existed. Also, because of the existence of Rellana, I actually speculate that it's possible the Three Sisters' towers were named after Rennala (Full Moon), Rellana (Twin Moon), and Rellana's Twin, Renna (Dark Moon). The reason I say Renna is Rellana's twin is specifically because Rellana is called Rennala's younger sister so the twin, because of Rellana's 'Twin' Moon (a bit on the nose, I know), has to be an astrologer of power with a name starting with "R." And Ranni gives us that name in-game via Iji's dialogue and it wouldn't be all that surprising for Carian royalty to train their niece in occult moon magic/frost magic in secret. The snowy crone armor set being specifically in Renna's Tower convinces me of this headcanon of mine. To add to this, Rennala wasn't always referred to as a Queen. It's actually specifically when she had encountered her moon as an astrologer and shown it to the academy that she became referred to as Queen. Meaning she was a princess first thus why I think the Towers were originally named after them in a time long past. Purely speculation though, so take it with a grain of salt for sure lol
I really hate how there’s no cutscene for her fight. Not even any dialogue. You walk in there and she’s just standing there like you mean to tell me she’s just been standing in that room since Marika became God? I find that so wack and it’s so easy to look past it but impossible to at the same time when you notice such a small detail. Anything would’ve been better than her just standing there

To be honest, I don't think mesmer felt the same for her and yet she remained loyal in the end in hopes he'd change his mind,he seems like the type of guy that more or less woulnt be interested in the kind of woman she is

I don’t think we’ll ever know for sure tbh. There’s evidence pointing in both directions. And the funny thing about elden rings lore, is that some parts are vague enough that you can interpret it how you want to. So in this situation, there’s no right or wrong answer really.
they could've given her at least few lines, i find the lack of boss dialogue in this dlc rather lazy and disappointing. Though yet again the whole thing feels re-written and unpolished so maybe she did have something to say but it got scrapped :(

@cooperjordan1554 I’ve gotta agree with eze on this, people are allowed to have opinions dude, I wouldn’t have called it lazy myself, but I do get where he is coming from, normally fromsoftware has some sort of cutscene for these kind of main bosses :)
I always find these videos interesting to see the way others have interpreted scenes, i always believed Rellana and Rennala had a great relationship together and them meeting the twin moons together is a sign of how intertwined they were as kids before she inevitably left to join Messmer's crusade.
Honestly, looking back it really does interest me too, I interpreted it like this, but I can also see why you’d think this! Maybe it’s a bit of both? They had a good friendship but still Renalla saw superiority of herself from her parents?

Was she? Only the Moons, of which there are actually two in the sky, and whose different phases are interpreted by the Carian Princesses, are called twins, while Rellana herself is only referred as Rennala's younger sister
@@wkave It's about the fact that unlike Miquella/Malenia and Mohg/Morgott they were never once mentioned as twins. The similarity in names doesn't say much, considering that in the Japanese original, even Marika's and Maliketh's names share a common root. マリカ - Marik'a マリケス - Marik'eth
Carian is a matriarchal place and the fact every other child chose a different path than their family’s, I could be completely off base but that’s what it seemed to me :)
On a side point, fromsoft uses names to show lineage without saying anything. You can infer rykard radaun and ranni and have the same parent from name alone. Same with marikas children. So they are similar so you understand their relationship with having to read anything

I don’t wanna be that guy, but GRRM designed the past of the lands between which was eventually got partially changed by Miyazaki, but saying that this honestly seems like something he’d make, wouldn’t be surprised if this was a remanent
All members of a royal family would have their own sworn protector or guard in a world like a game of thrones. Moonrithyl could be Rellanas sworn protector and Moongram to Renalla.
I always took it as such considering the ending, every ending has some correlation to an outer god. Maybe the moons outer god is the greater will? We do after all learn in the dlc that the moon and stars are born of the greater will, and that the golden order was never in cohorts with the greater will instead mytr, I don’t know there’s so many avenues and that’s what I love so much!
Context clues. The Outer God of the Twin Bird, mother of the death rite and death birds, is unnamed. Although context clues point in pretty specific directions. Rennala and Rellana are twins born to the Carian Royal Family, or The House of the Moon, who migrated to Liurnia from the Mountaintops of the Giants where they were Astrologers who learned of the power of glintstone and Liurnia happens to sit on probably the largest deposit of glintstone. They even built a school on top of the largest glintstone you can lay your eyes on in the whole game. Their family name is a play on the word Carrion which means any bird that feeds on the dead but mostly it refers to ravens or crows. Twin moons,. twin birds. My point is context clues are how they want us to put the pieces of the lore of this game together.

so, is the moon in the dlc Rellana's moon? the shadow lands are disconnected from the lands between, and it doesn't seem like her double moons are connected to ranni's dark moon, so did the lands between have 3 moons at one point?
such a satisfying boss to beat. I geuniely feel that Miyazaki and FromSoft made the perfect game. its been nothing, but fun and interesting the whole way through. im about to start NG+3 and ive been playing the DLC since it came out so im hyped to get back to the start.
Seems to me they probably diverged a few years after Marika at the shaman village accounting for the betrayal. As for when we are playing the dlc, Miyazaki has said it's present day. Hope this answers you're question :)

@ABrickinTime I think maybe she could have been, I mean I think the wars/Godfrey were lands between time, but I could definitely see Messmer being born pre divergent, would explain his hate for the hornsent and his protection of the shaman village/the tortured jars :)

She was honestly top 3 boss battles in the DLC I dont know if she's stronger cause two moons or if it's a symbolic thing like how ranni has a dark moon thats slightly darker and more occult
