I agree. I learn so much... and I don't even have a dog at the moment. But I learn something with every new video.

The average person simply doesn't know how to use the "tools" of dog training, whether it's treats or a specific collar. People are against treat training because they think they just "feed" the dog to get the behavior, just like they are against e-collars because they don't want to "zap" the dog to get or not get the behavior they want. The sad thing is, many trainers leave it at that and don;t stress the process of each method. The biggest problem I run into with training is the owners want instant results. Maybe it's TV or the internet, but they don't wait for progress. The dog either does it or he doesn't. I tell them look for progress, not perfection. Sorry...this is turning into a rant! Appreciate all your advice you share, Robert.

I can totally see what you mean by "instant gratification". Its easy to forget that you need to trust the process and be patient.

Hey Rob, could you post the questions on the screen or outline the questions in the description? I've seen you do that before and it helps navigating the video. Your knowledge is much appreciated!

The "hold-bring-out" sessions are my pup's favorite with her chewy bones. After regular sit-down-come-etc sessions are over, she'll bring me her chewy bone to remind me of the hold-bring-out session. One day, after yet again snubbing a regular chewy toy, I asked her to hold it for me while I dug through her bucket stash for more treats. One bite down on that chewy and she forgot all about the treats I was rummaging for. It's now her favorite chewy and favorite toss around toy.

Hi Robert, I have a question for you for your Ask Me Anything segment: My 3.5 year old male Rottie shows leash aggression on walks with bicyclists, people walking, etc. I've corrected him at high levels with ecollar as well as with firm leash correction at the moment of arousal, yet his arousal subsides only for that moment. For context, I'm highly structured with everything I do with him (thanks to your videos) and all the other problems behaviors have dissipated - except for leash aggression. If I put him in a sit or a down and use lots of spatial pressure, I can manage this behavior on walks. However, my goal, if possible, is to have him not care about people and animals on walks. Thank you so much.

Hi Robert I’ve just watched this video, great advice! My dog is 2, In a few years I’m hoping to get another dog, your videos are so helpful to all of us who watch you and I was just wondering what is the safest way to bring a new puppy into a house with an adult dog? Thanks.

For the husky comment. My husky pup is food and prey driven. I’ve just discovered that she actually follows commands better using a favorite toy. She loves to wrestle with her teddy bears so I can use it to play with her as well as leave her on her own to wrestle it.

Rob, how would you recommend I stop my puppy from digging and eating his poop outside? Usually he stays away from is poop but will go through spurts where he eats it if I don’t pick it up right away.

I know most of your puppy videos are older puppies. How do we start basic training with a dog 9 weeks to 10 weeks.

Love your videos. I have a question. Is it possible to train a dog to NOT chase deer while off leash without the use of an electronic collar? and without the use of practicing with real deer? My dog has a great "leave it" but when she sees deer, instinct kicks in. She has a great recall and will come back quickly, but how do I get her to not chase in the first place?
@saramations
@saramations 3 года назад
Is it possible? Yes! Is it possible for your dog? Who knows. This is one of those things that vary from dog to dog. Some breeds will have a stronger prey drive and some individuals just have that personality to defy you. You'd just to keep working on your distraction proofing and release commands. You should probably post the age and breed of your dog, it'd help.

@@saramations Thanks so much for responding. Australian Cattle Dog. 5 yrs old. I feel if I had access to real deer in a fenced area and could work with her and the deer I could successfully train her to stop chasing them. We see squirrels enough that I am able to keep her from chasing them, but deer is quite another matter. We just dont see them enough. One reason why I wanted to ask is I see too many trainers say things like " I can stop your dog from chasing deer" but when pressed they are using a shock collar. Or other trainer has said that as long as they wont chase a tossed chicken leg they wont chase deer, and that just is not true. And another one clams as long as you teach a good leave it....but she hasnt "proofed" her dogs with real deer. It is frustrating. I was just looking for some tips and real honesty from other trainers.

@@BosomBuddyCreations Why is using an e-collar not an option? My apologies if I’m wrong, but I noticed you called it a “shock collar,” so I’m wondering if you might be misinformed about them. They are not used to shock dogs. Yes, they are an aversive correction, but so is telling a dog “no” or using training collars. They’re a tool that can be very helpful and take you and your dog’s training to the next level, especially with off leash training by giving you a way to communicate with your dog without having to have it on a leash. It is very important to know how to use them properly though. I know Robert uses them on this channel so I’m sure he has some good videos showing how they work and how to use them. So, just throwing it out there in case you reconsider.

Not uncommon for huskys too not bee interested in dead tings

That guy with the husky sounded like he engaging with his dog too much and in return the husky kept expecting more and more; over stimulated. I wouldn't play with a dog after going on an hour long walk. I wouldn't wrestle with a dog ever, either. i've heard horror stories about dogs having accidents and breaking limbs.

I'm no expert 🤣 but Huskies have massive amounts of energy and an hour's walk is nothing to them. On the wrestling thing, my first Doby and I had great roll around the floor/ grass play fights. He would put his jaws around my arms and legs but never even a bruise. I would in return pin him down and play head locks. Neighbours thought it odd but we had such a close bond. Miss the little (50kg) bugger to bits 😭 never had a dog before or since his passing.

Do you know what is funny? Feels like Positive Only approach is similar to a MLM scam...There are several companies that 'coach' people that thrive with people's naivete.
