To me, Hal Smith will always be the voice of Mr Whittaker in Adventures in Odyssey!

Loved him as Otis on Andy Griffith Show obviously, but I had no idea he was such a versatile voice actor too.

“Hi! I’m John Avery Whittaker, but most folks are here call me Whit! And this is Odyssey!” I still listen to this day…❤️ It’s my understanding that Hal Smith credited his role as Whit as one of his most gratifying roles ever. Incredible😊

I've grown up hearing Hal Smith's voice in "Adventures in Odyssey" and the Winnie the Pooh cartoons. I think my favorite character he voiced is Owl from Winnie the Pooh.

Hal Smith is also part of my beautiful childhood even after I born and I loved all his wonderful and beautiful roles that do not repeat❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️. I was never know his passing until 2007 with Tony Jay and Roscoe Lee Browne I was also shocked and unable to cry until after a days or week too💔💔💔💔. I still also wish for more then 14 years he still alive with many parts of my beautiful childhood and my heart where he reprise his roles Gyro Gearloose , Flintheart Glomgold for DuckTales with Darkwing Duck, as well Owl , Blabber Mouse and Santa Claus. If only I still wish for more then two years to have the Kronika's Hourglass not only to make all my childhood dreams and my wishes come true, but also to undo of conflicts, wars and tragedies which burned all my happiness, dreams and everything I loved forever and others.

Wow you even got Dirk the Daring's mother-in-law in there! That was one I was sure you'd miss -- I'm impressed! This was a wonderful tribute -- Hal's one of my favorites too. The only omission I noted off the top of my head was along with all the other times he played Santa, his earliest one in a cartoon was in the 1964 Christmas episode of the original run of the Flintstones.

I never knew that Mr. Smith did all of those voices. Thanks. I have been thinking about being a voice actor. There have been a couple of voice actors that I've seen online offering how to get into that line of work. But I have been sceptical to try. But seeing this, there just may be something legit about the ads. One could perhaps make a good Living doing that.

my favorite role is Owl (The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh)

When are you going to do Sir David Jason? He did included voices for Danger Mouse, The BFG, Count Duckula, Hugo from Victor and Hugo, and Toad from The Wind in the Willows.

Super Happy videos are coming back. That means more knowledge for more Voice Acting studying.

He did other voices for DIC and Ruby Spears. He also voiced Santa Clause in an episode of Disney’s Bonkers.

I think Hal Smith was also the voice of the time machine Dragon's Lair II as well as the Cheshire Cat and the angel that guards the entrance to Eden.

A pretty good history on Hal Smith the performances of him that I will know is Elmer Fudd, Winnie-the-Pooh, some Scooby-Doo episodes particularly Scooby-Doo Where Are You, and Santa Claus in a few or couple of Hanna-Barbera Productions.

Hal Smith will always be the best part the drunken Otis. And also he's actually the voice actor in my favorite TV program David and Goliath.

Seems like Hanna-Barbera always used him when they needed someone to be the voice of Santa.

I was wondering if you would get to him soon. Though in hindsight, doesn't some of his voices sound like Will Ryan, who also appears with him in many cartoons and films.

I remember that Flintstones Christmas Special from 1977, my father used to have it recorded on VHS. I also remember the DuckTails episodes of Flint Heart Glumgold as well as the Mickey's Christmas Coral that had a really different sounding Goofy.

Very good on adding most of his characters in that video, but you forgot to add two more of his other characters from Dragon's Lair II: Time Warp. Time Machine (Mordroc's brother) and Cheshire Cat. Including Yardarm from DuckTales. And Dexter, Uncle Torbit, and Aunt Ophelia from The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. Plus, you also forgot to add Snow Wolf and Mr. Holiday from Captain Caveman and the Teen Angels, The Auctioneer from The Small One, Elephant, Bear, and Ant from Sesame Street, Nogum and Abbot Costello from Adventures of the Gummi Bears, and another Santa Claus he did from Bonkers.

He had such a warm and reassuring voice. But what an amazing range, I'm blown away by some of the scarier, crazier stuff. If I'm not mistaken, he also did the insane, bone-chilling laugh of Uncle Giggles Flintstone. .. which I still find hilarious. You know, I've been thinking of him recently and how I wish he was around longer.

Emma Young: Emma was born on June 16th, 2001 in Dover, Delaware. She started drawing at the age of 4. She always had a love for music and entertainment. She started writing her own stories when she was very young. She attended WAVE classes in 2009. Throughout her life, she's taken voice, sign language and music lessons. She is currently attending Music & Arts piano and voice class. She likes to spend her time drawing and making videos on RU-vid. She does almost every voice in her videos, most notably, Emma, Gumball, Vicky Fox and she also did voice work on Samster Madness' Cartoons Unite and Potato Splits Christmas as Kimi Finster and Wally Ramone.

Hal played a lot of Santas! He did one on The Flintstones too. Not shown here are a few more gigs at DePatie-Freleng. Namely Charlie from "Le Ball and Chain Gang", the vampire from "Transylvania Mania" (both Inspector cartoons) as well as a few appearances in the Crazy Legs Crane shorts.

I wonder why Sterling Holloway didn't do Pooh's voice in "Winnie the Pooh and a Day For Eeyore"? He was in good enough health to narrate the famous "Atomic Shakespeare" episode of Moonlighting in 1986. I could understand him not wanting to do the regular grind of a TV series like Welcome to Pooh Corner and The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. But surely he could have done Pooh's voice one last time for a single "featurette".

My favourite Hal Smith roles. 1. The Flintstones. Race Announcer (Gotta love that gravelly voice). 2. The Flintstones. J. Giggles Flintstone. A great bonkers laugh. 3. Scooby Doo. The Headless Spector. The same laugh but with a sinister edge.

What no Daphne's Mom from Dragon's Lair 2, Yeah no joke he literally voiced Daphne's Mom in the game. EDIT: 5:36 My bad I made a slight error on my part, Must of skip that part while skipping on other characters Hal Smith played.

He was the original “Scotty” before Star Trek on the “Space Angel” cartoon. Also I liked him as “the Pancake Man “ the host of a Los Angeles kids show in the early 60s

In later years, he played John Avery Whitaker on the enormously popular evangelical children’s radio drama Adventures in Odyssey. This is one of the most successful radio shows in history and probably the most successful radio drama since the 1950s. To most evangelical children who are millennials, he is, even better known for this than anything else except Andy Griffith.

So much variety with his voices! Back then we had Hal Smith, nowadays we got Keith Ferguson. Oh yeah, just noticed they both voice Flintheart Glomgold!

i Didn’t Know Hal Smith Voiced Gyro in DuckTales! That’s Interesting!

Growing up, I only associated Hal Smith's name with Davy and Goliath (where he played the dad, Goliath, and several of Davy's friends!). Looking at this video, I didn't realize he was so prolific! Recently, I watched a compilation of old "Clutch Cargo" cartoons. Smith voiced a lot of incidental characters. I recognized his voice! Kids of the 70s might recall him from an "Afterschool Special" in which a kid travels inside the body of his unhealthy slob Uncle Carl. Guided by a guy named Timer, he learns about body parts and gets health advice. Smith played Uncle Carl, live-action.

Angela Lansbury recently passed away; can you do a video of her as a tribute?

Hal Smith was also The Jolly Auctioneer from The Small One. And even though it was only in audio he voiced Stromboli, Jiminy Cricket, Doc, and a number of voices in The Wizard of Oz and I think it was either him or Bob Holt who played Captain Hook in the Disney read alongs as well as a narrator for a few Disney read alongs.

My favorite voice role that Hal Smith did was as Mr. Ranger from the classic animated Christmas movie called Santa and the Three Bears. I believe it was made in 1970. He even appears in person at the beginning of the movie.
