The most redeeming aspect of Ready or Not is the fact that it isn't afraid to show the horrific reality that this world is indeed capable of harbouring.

The freakiest mission is still the birthday house with the CP going on underground and the barrels they're melting kids in. Shit was disturbing af.

never knew that it would be controversial to play a game where the goal is to stop the bad guys shooting up the place

Despite its controversies, this ended up being one of their best maps due to how immersive it is

The most unrealistic thing about this map is the authorities entering the building with the shooter instead of waiting outside

I still think the AI is a bit ridiculously good with their aim and reaction times, but the game has come a LONG way. Very happy with the current product.

All the 911 calls are so well done in this game. This one in particular is absolutely harrowing. That poor woman.

As a first responder this has always been one of my nightmares. I have prayed everyday that we will never have to respond to one of these, I already have had to see so much folks die in my career, but all of those were vehicle accidents, fires, search operations, never something like a shooting. Games like RoN that have mastered environmental story telling in regard to relevant topics are fantastic and need to be pushed to the top of the charts. Its only controversial to folks who don’t want to acknowledge bad things happen in the world (the Voll Heath house was a fantastic example of that, folks felt it was distasteful and the devs were like; yeah thats the point, its a real issue and it should make you uncomfortable), these missions are not meant to be fun or light hearted, they are meant to make you face reality.

I did the Uvalde tactic on this level and refused to enter the school until a random off duty border patrol agent who borrowed a shotgun from his barber and left in the middle of a haircut showed up and stopped it.

The criticism about the school level is so stupid. Rainbow 6 vegas 2 features an entire college campus full of students packed into an auditorium with the doors welded shut and gas piped in. Nobody batted an eye then, but "it's 20xx!"

The ONLY reason this would get any kind of "criticism" is because those people realize these events are no longer a rare occurrence, and would suddenly have to come to grips with that. Instead, it's just easier to hate on a video game for bringing to light some of those topics.

i feel like the lack of playable role as a shooter, zero glamourization of the shooters and the distressing reality of the scenario doesnt warrent this much controversy. I think people tend to forget that games about ww2 would have had the same reaction if they came out during world war 2, but the reception to those games now is casual. Same with the cold war, vietnam, iraq and afghanistan etc. There is no good time or right time to cover the subjects in this format, its just a harsh reality of modern society. The real issue is the fact the problem of mass shootings hasnt been solved in 30+ years, not games referencing it.

Love how the map/mission is called "elephant". Clever way of noting how the probability of this happening to anyone is the "elephant in the room". Or, better yet, before this map came out the idea of this being a scenario was the "elephant in the room".

In the Uvalde version, you hear the calls of the kids begging for help, and you just stand outside and pepper spray parents...

It might seem weird but it would probably benefit law enforcement that regularly work together doing this type of work to periodically play these types of games as a way to work on teamwork and quick problem solving. obviously its not the same, but it would definitely help in terms of communication and teamwork in times of stress.

This is a real life occurrence happens several times a year not wanting to have it shown in any type of media doesn't help anything

The 911 call made me replay the final message like 5 times just because how good the acting is. It’s also terrifying, I’ve played this map and it was crazy.

Campus, Farm, and Port are my favorite maps in Ready or Not 1.0, the sensation you get is thrilling and fun but you still feel very uneasy. Glad Void took the risk to keep these.

This map actually has a bit of a dark Easter Egg to it, with a hint of foreshadowing - "Elephant" is a 2003 film by Gus Van Sant about a pair of school shooters at an alternative high school in the PNW, which was heavily based on the 1999 Columbine massacre.

This is a common occurrence in the USA and the critics can’t accept that

Back in my day we played a game called "JFK Reloaded" you'd kill JFK over and over again trying to get the highest score.

After seeing vids like this, I feel much more comfortable with this map being included. It's very consistent with actual events and doesn't glorify the whole thing

That phonecall.. fuck. The dev team has immense respect for the subject matter and isn't pulling any punches when it comes to conveying the themes of their game. Made my stomach turn, but I say that with respect and commendation. I hope this real world issue cones to a head sometime because the metrics are deeply heartbreaking.

How realistic…the cops wait to enter until AFTER the shooting took place and it was too late just like irl 💀

Cop here. I’m a rookie still but just went through a few days of active shooter training at a high school. Rad video! Yeah, people will always complain about whatever hot button topic they can to generate clout, but I was pleased with this level. The insane AI can be fixed with an easy mod, but compared to early access the whole game has so much more life and depth to it now. This is a pretty good depiction of clearing a situation like this, as far as the game would allow. The map’s deceptive if you played early access, because it’s listed as a barricaded suspect instead of active shooter/bomb threat like it would have been. I liked the surprise when I found the first bomb. 🙃 The modern thinking, especially post-Uvalde, is to move fast. The “Stop the Killing. Stop the Dying.” posters you see in the station refer to a common training principle in active shooter events that prioritizes response. You MUST neutralize the threat first so resources can be diverted to saving the wounded. I was taught that the average time for LE to contact the shooter in these situations is 3-4 minutes from arrival. You get in and look for stimulus (screaming, blood, gunfire) and you head directly towards that. You have to violate normal building search principles and pass doors, pass wounded or dead civilians so you can stop a threat. Then you tend to those things. Good job showing some of the chaos of a situation like that. Realistically we wouldn’t be detaining civilians, just asking them if they’ve seen/heard anything and telling them to shelter where they are. The game limits you of course, it would be cool if they gave you some clues to where they were at besides the pointing animation.

This game is respectful about what is happening out there in the real world. People who criticize these situations are the ones who don't want to bring it up to the light. Gaming has all kinds of genres, and I support the creators who make games like these. There are many horror/gore games that have situations that could've happened in the real world.

Your game play was pretty exciting but me and my friends did a realism playthrough where we just sat outside the whole time.

The thing about Ready or Not to me is how it doesnt try to act like its better than any other project just because it has real or scary subject matters. They just do what they do and they make no big deal about it and acknowledge when people criticize them, even if the criticism is uncalled for. I also love how you guys set up your outfits, really gives the impression that there was simply no time to change clothes at all and they Literally just up and arrived asap. Great stuff ^^

Loading into a shooter game and you just see the screen fade into an image of lockers in a school would leave you horrified

I’m glad they added this in. They wanted to stay true to what swat units experience. Though it’s a touchy topic, it’s very fitting for the game. The past 1-2 years have definitely further supported the decision with such horrific events.

I like how many of the rooms are like set pieces in this game. Great level design, too

I think having this in the game is a good thing as it can start a conversation about a real life issue. And since our generation does not read as much as older generations communicating difficult topics via games is defninitly the way to go

Fun fact, the name of this mission, “elephant” is also the name of a 2003 movie about the Columbine massacre. The events of the mission share similarities to the massacre as well. Mainly the fact that there are multiple shooters rather than a lone in the mission as well as in Columbine which to my knowledge is something of a rarity in mass shootings. It was probably done for gameplay reasons but I still think it’s pretty interesting.

I can understand why they chose a college campus but I can already see modders doing either high school or elementary school maps later on simply because they can.

I think the toughest part of all of this, would be after you took the shooter down and then had to clear the entire campus. Staying high alert the whole time even though you probably got them all.

I also love the name of the map, "Elephant", like the Vant Sant movie about Columbine, but the name it's more deep than that. Elephant it's also a 1989 movie about "The Troubles" in England, and it's 36-38 minutes of only omicides. The two movies are correlated: the minimalism, the cold blood violence, but most importantly the title, that comes from Bernard MacLaverty talking about "The Troubles" as "the elephant in our living room", an elephant that everyone see but that no one want to talk about.

it hurts to play this map, knowing that its a real situation that far, far too many people have been involved in. Though, however much it hurts to play, I'm happy its here. We, as a people, can't sit on our hands and ignore things like this.

There are books, songs, tv shows, and movies that all explain and depict a very real and terrifying scenario involving school shootings, often based on real events. Why cant video games? I dont understand how this could be controversial. You hear about these situations but to SEE them is something different and it has a different impact on people. Not only are these depictions good they are necessary.

This was a tough map. I tried to run it hard and fast to focus on stopping the threat instead of playing the ready or not slow and steady way.

I kinda see what the critisism is about but i also don't, this just shows the horrors of these kinds of rare events, and it shows why there should be something done about them. If we are just going to cry, and dont do anything about these kinds of events, they are just going to keep happening, we need to take action and take it now.

This feels so panicked and stressful. This game always does such a good job of making its missions feel real.

I’ve never thought how stressful it would be to go through a situation like this as a cop. Not knowing anything, risking life, it’s so stressful to go through something like that wether your a student or a cop. People don’t seem to really understand how difficult a life of a cop is, especially during the times we are in now where things like this are now happening daily. Heck, even I am feeling stressed out and I’m not even handling anything. Might it be offensive to some? Yes, but I have a feeling that this could be something of a learning opportunity, you know for learning what it would be like if you are the cop.

My biggest critique of this is how the civilians are handled. Police wouldnt cuff them in a random room and move on, imagine if the suspect managed to slip past the officers and find a bunch of bound students just sitting there. I think it would be cool if there was a system where they would either run for the exit if it was close enough or the officers could tell them to "hide" and they would shelter in place, but not cuffed.

if ubisoft was allowed to add Bartlett uni in 2015 for R6 , then Ready Or Not should be allowed to include this School Map

I love all the new stuff they added to the game, I am really glad youtube recommended me this because I have always thought a school map would be great because of how realistic it is and they actually did, it is super messed up but it is something that had to be added.

i was at a school where they apparently do active shooter drills.. like actual police come in and someone pretends to be a shooter and they try to find him.. i guess the first time they did it it took forever but the day i was there it was over fast..

The AI needs a little bit of tweaking, at some points it is unrealistic how fast and accurate they can shoot you. Also they shoot through walls too much. Hopefully it will be improved in the next update

Really dope map. Void did a great job of balancing the reality of active shooter - where you can't save everyone - while pushing you to the threat and forcing a methodical clearance when you don't have the information to work with. Really well done.

The reason this is controversial is because it hits on a topic people prefer to avoid versus doing anything about it. Easier to pretend it doesn't exist if you don't see what happens inside a shooter scenario.

This shows just how terrifying being an officer can be, and just how tragic situations like this are. Ready Or Not will be one of the best representations of just how dark our world can be, and the individuals who risk their lives to help.

Never knew ADULTS to complain about ADULT content in an ADULT game made for ADULTS

I love this game and the fact the Dev didn’t just drop it for the hate the level got. As much as people may not like it stuff like this happens almost all the time and just ignoring it ain’t going to make anything better.

Hey a few questions what sensitivity do you play on, how do you get your gun to the high ready instead of low ready, and what FOV do you play with?

Definitely neat to see a scenario that’s so different from other tactical callouts. The main goal here is you gotta press the threat and press it fast, prevent further casualties. Your own safety as an officer goes out the window. It’s totally contrary to how just about every other mission in this game is. IMO the players were still playing this too much like other missions, but it’s a great training opportunity

I feel the reason the map was so controversial was because people thought it was a childrens school. In promos you see someone rescuing a kid and a bloody classroom so people expected the shooting to be at a gradeschool or something.

That's absolutely wild that this is in the game. I hadn't heard of this game before the game awards but it looks incredible. No gameplay has ever made me feel more tense than watching this.

They released 1.0. WITH this map. Showing they have more balls and sense than the publisher who abandoned them. right on.

This map was HARD, i only made it out with a single AI teammate and the bomb timers were shorter than they were in MP.

They changed it to a college after losing their first publisher. In the initial trailer you can see it's an elementary school as there is a dead kid.

This kinda reminds me of that scene in 19-2 (I gotta find a way to see the full series) except there's a lot more cops getting killed.

The most unrealistic part of this level was the fact the shooter was either still there or alive by the time the cops got there.

It's hard not to see this as anything but a literal work of art. It doesn't poke fun at the situation, but it captures the horror of it in a way that's haunting to those who have never experienced it. I understand how seeing a simulated school shooting would hurt the victims of an actual one though. The sad reality is that situations like these won't ever stop being fresh until something is done about it.

Only reason this has controversy is because this is a genuine issue over there maybe instead of people telling a game they can’t show stuff for what it is people should do something to stop this happening in real life but as someone said before it’s way easier to go after a game

I just played this mission, the 911 calls really got me teared at the part she said "Don't let me die!", my heart Freakin broken and only to get shot by the shooter then the guy who called 911 as well, the last message was "I am sorry, i love you mum!" the 911 operator also abit shaken trying to calm the the victim down. This is really terrifying. I put all my team ballistic mask, and yes i died alot time, coz of that bomb location -_-, but able to locate one at the cafe table and one at lecture hall. i wanna praise the actors and actress doing this as well and dev for doing such realistic mission. I am glad this mission is up despite the criticism to raise the awareness that this kind of terror existed and i hope those who criticize it, shift it towards the politicians.

Hold up, so not only are the devs throwing light uppon a real issue in the US, but they also went out of their way to make it one of the most immersive map? Props to them, I'll be buying.

Ffff the calls at the start really put on the mod. This is a topic that needs to be addresses and honestly, it's a good thing for it to been depicted more and more on the media, it expose the hard truth

you know Law Enforcement officials can use this as an introduction and simulation of sorts for trainees to what to do and not do in this type of situations, after all mass shootings have become quite common as of late, and they must prepare should one take place

People dont want to admit how real this is, how close this can be to real life and that's why people dont like it. It's too close to the modern american life. People look and point at school shooters and say oh look at that it's just awful and we need to find a solution without ever seeing what is actually happening during an ASE. Im a student and it still scares me to this day despite being in mostly well regulated area with a good police force and defensive perimiter set up.

Editing was flawless just saying. Also the map looks dope glad they added it, ik it's a sensitive topic but still glad they stucj to their word and added it.

The horrors of this world need to be highlighted in order for people to be informed, if you dont like this, then YOU need to work to make the world you hear about and see depicted in games like Ready or Not a better place instead of complaining about seeing it because it makes your feelings hurt, people need to see and experience things that hurt their feelings so they can work to fix the problem, thats the real way we improve as people and a community.

Hey just a question about the flashlights on your guns. Is there an option to strobe the flashlight? Law enforcement sometimes use strobe lights in dark situations as they are good for incapacitating any shooters. I love the tactical realism in your game.

The AI in this has become simply put too aimbottish. They're trying hard to make them more aggressive but now they're just tracking through walls. Watched it happen several times yesterday.

It's a good thing devs still put this in but also a good choice for it to be a college probably. Wonder what details people are gonna notice on this map
