Antique March - La marche du Prince D´Orange
The March of the Prince
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hey all!
After travelling for 1 month and meeting amazing people i´m back to upload something new.
For this video i used new acquisitions :)
Viols, harpsichord, recorder, drums, dudey bagpipe (transposed to G) (Thank you very much Sean Jones!) and rauschpfeifes recorded by Eduardo Antonello
This video is dedicated to my dear virtual youtube friends
Leanne Delehanty
Stefan Wandriesse, Caroline
Jean-François Arnold, Marie, Baptiste e Aurélien
which become real after visiting them in the summer of 2014 in France, showing us fantastic places and being extremely kind with us. I could not forget mentioning Philippe Doizelet, Sophie
and all his friends for the amazing holiday near Provins at the same period!
Hope to meet you very soon in a next trip :)

Please don´t ever stop making these videos, because the music you are performing is hardly ever played these days and are a real plus on youtube. You should have albums of this out there for us people to buy and enjoy :)

Thank you! Authentic recordings of this are rare. And even our present day Dutch military bands rarely play this for the Prince (or Princess, as it is now) of Orange or even the King today. Oranje boven!!!

Speaking as someone old enough to be your mother, I must say I am very impressed that young people are taking an interest in the older versions of classical music. This rendition was particularly lovely. What's the word for "cool" in Portuguese ... ah, yes, legal!

This may actually be more authentic to the period - Parade marches were often played at 80 paces per minute - curiously, the same as the Legion Etrangere today - rather than the 120 to which we are accustomed,

Lully? Phillidor? This is a 'new Irish tune', popularly known as the Lilibulero march, by Purcell.
@EarlyMusicinadifferentway
@EarlyMusicinadifferentway 5 лет назад
There are some versions of this piece as it is a popular tune. The version i play is from a Phillidor facsimile which have a different bass from the New Irish Tune. (which i´ve already recorded too by the way). The inner voices were writen by me. Best

Eduardo, I love the chord changes in the refrain, which are more Renaissance or Boroque sounding than in the folk versions of this piece. Can you suggest where I can get this arrangement. It's the chord change into the third bar in the chorus. I'm playing this on guitar and my friend on lute

So this is the origin of the tune used for the English bawdy song "My Thing is Mine Own"
@blobbert912
@blobbert912 8 лет назад
+biancademonet The original tune is actually Irish, it was sung as a melody for the song "Lilliburlero". Lilliburlero was appropriated by Henry Purcell as "A New Irish Tune", which was used for My Thing Is My Own and was also adapted as a popular military march still in use today. It spread to France sometime after.
