I saw them in 2008. They were on stage for 3 hours and 10 mins. The manager of the venue came on stage and told them that he was going to pull the power if they did not stop playing. It was bliss!
In my humble opinion, Deloused in the comatorium is comparable to any Hendrix album in terms of breaking sonic barriers, and rewriting the book on song structures. Breathtaking album, really.
More like a Pink Floyd album. Hendrix was dry sounding imo, but the complexity of TMV's Deloused is on par with Dark Side of the Moon, both albums designed by Storm... and both are concept albums. But I definitely know what your saying
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Agreeed!! People rag on Thomas soo hard.....He is the greatest thing to happen to the mars volta...Nobody else can do an entire TMV catalogue setlist but Pridgen.Nuff said.
To be totally honest and, in my modest opinion, Pridgen was the worst drummer they had (despite being quite good). I suggest you watch Deantoni Parks live. Just put Omar Rodriguez Lopez live. Ofcourse Deantoni Parks has a different style and is far more technical and jazz influenced. He's a good prog drummer.
@@Sabogey IMO Pridgen fit the more abrasive and maximalist style TMV was trying around the 2008 era perfectly but its often irritating listening to him do the older material, especially the groovier stuff. He fucking conquers the jam parts during this era of Volta though, the Drunkship jam on this video is fucking intense.
And truth be told, Pridgen's tastiest and most dynamic drum performance is in Xenophanes, not any Volta record (which practically is a Volta record, just with Ximena Sarinana singing). Dude had a lot of potential to develop a solid style but he wasn't cut out to handle the high stress and high demands that come with working under Omar and Cedric.
@@growskull I feel like they are turning a new page. They’ve always embraced the new and this is probably just a way of making things fresh and new for them. Although legendary for us, they probably have weird feelings attached to it. Although you would think it would be nostalgic for them. Or I could be wrong lol
the best shit about seeing these old performances is getting to digest their jam sessions. i use to go home after concerts trying to remember as much of their jams as possible and even trying to play whatever notes i heard to keep them in my mind.
Give Omar Rodriguez-López a sick ass drummer to arrange around with and the sky is truly the limit with the Mars Volta. A pinnacle of electric guitar-ORL, in my estimation, demonstrated how further the electric guitar can go if it breaks away from the norm.
Juan Alderete did an ama on reddit and all he had to say about Pridgen was that he played fast. It was pretty clear that he didn't have a very high opinion of him.
I deeply regret that the only two times I saw this incredible band, I didn't fully comprehend what I was hearing. I've only grown to truly appreciate them now that they are gone.
Well they are technically re-united since last year, although there's been radio silence ever since the announcement. I'm in a similar situation to you because I only saw them once at a festival in the afternoon and was too shitfaced to even remember which songs they played. Though I suspect that the set was pretty similar to this one, as it was around the same time.
Saw them three times, once Ottawa Deloused (so cold that night after the show covered with sweat -20 below) Best show ever ,Then two more times here in Toronto mind blowing live. Original lineup incredible. Still kick ass.
The extended jams are so ridiculously Mars Volta hahhaha. I hope the have a full band like this when they come back next year, meaning horns, precutionist etc.
@@Edgarsopper Not officially but cedrics twitter just says "MARS VOLTA" and he's been talking about it for the past year. TBH i hope they dont do it, especially based of antemasque and ATDI.
Todd Cantley it’s said that for a long time. He’s had that off and on for years, it’s nothing new. It used to say ATDI was well until they broke up recently which sounds like ATDI is done for good.
Muchas gracias por subir este concierto!!Estuve ahí, pensé que no lo iba a volver a ver más!es revivir ese tremendo viaje de una hora que me rompió la cabeza.
William Epperson yes I do! I’m saying Hella needs a comeback as well. I was actually there for The Mars Volta and SOAD in Boston but they had Bad Acid Trip open. Not sure if Hella was on that leg of the tour. It was amazing though!
The chemistry was there that night, plus the mix is the cherry on top. Simply amazing that a show of this caliber is available, thank you so much. This is by far one of the best live performances from this era/line up, that I've personally seen.
God damnit I love Cedric for quoting fucking Two-Headed Dog by Roky Erikson and the weird af uncharacteristic lines from Omar follwed by that Ikey Solo. This is seriously one of the craziest fucking Goliaths ever.
yo estuve ahi, esto fue en Buenos aires. Paso todo muy rapido pero estuvo buenisimo. Recuerdo que estaba el audio de consola pero no sabia que estaba filmado
They originally wanted DeAntoni as Jon's replacement and even played some shows with him in 2006, but couldn't get him full time. So they went with Thomas.
@@Meemorp_ and then they realized, that thomas' style is too sick and fast for anyone else to play. and then, they got deatoni. tmv after thomas was crap.
When I heard Thomas start drunkship I couldn't believe my own ears. The snare is hammered hard and doesn't carry the groove at all. Goliath is an amazing record that I still love but Thomas' expression on the drums is just so different from John's, so when asked to play John's parts it does sound very different.
@ITrazar where did you get this? Man this is just pure gold, I'm from Argentina. This show was AMAZING! They came in 2005 (with Frusciante as guest guitarrist) and this in 2008. They never came back :(
Yeah, though it is interesting considering 90% of the shows you'll see him going hard but pretty much never hear him 'side from a couple spotlight parts
You see that's how you can be influenced by bands such as Zeppelin and not blatantly sound like them the first song has a nice Song Remains the Same feel a few minutes in. I'm not real familiar with these guys but they definitely are doing their thing or were. Sometimes bands like that just can't help but combust.
This would have been an awesome show to be at... The Mars Volta has a tendency to play sloppy live... I mean there music isnt simple so its understandable but they were all on point in this show including Cedric.
