Residents of the island country are on the frontlines fighting for climate reform, racing against the clock to save their home and culture from rising sea levels and violent weather.
I worked at a sleep away summer camp as a counselor and lifeguard when I was a teenager, where one of my co-workers was from the Marshall Islands. He was the most gracious person I have ever met, to this day. He hand made every single one of our co-workers star ornaments with shells and palm leaves and he said they meant we were family. He gave them to everyone on the last day of camp. I still have it
My gf is Marshallese and black and her mother was born there and she lived a good chunk of her life in Kwaj and Majuro. Im pretty sure her grandmother was from Ebeye. A lot of her family and other Marshallese people moved to Oklahoma and Arkansas to find work and better opportunities. I plan to go with her really soon to see her cousins graduation in Majuro!
Lived on Kwaj. Even as a teen, I wondered how they would survive. NOT because of climate but because of losing the old-school survival techniques. On a trip to Ebeye, I saw first hand how they survived.....it wouldn't last, I thought, unless all generations understand how to really survive off the land after the Bikini island chaos. Live in peace, folks....learn to live in what is true peace.
My grandparents were kids when asked to move from bikini atoll. They have all passed away. I’ve heard that they were asked to move off the island. But I grew up in Hawaii and from my Hawaiian history that I grew up being taught that’s not the way the U.S does things. My home was and still is being used as a experiment by the U.S. now they know what their nuclear weapons are able to do. I would rather wake up and live off the island. But no I am here working for the Wicked living pay to pay. My home will soon be gone due to an experiment. Global warming is not controlled. It only gets worse.
@@loyevangelists Yeah.....brainwash and control....... All Marshallese speak English, embraced Christian religion, are fat as elephants because of American fast food and half of them live in USA......but be careful about brainwash and control!
Don't buy into the Global Warming due to CO2 BS. It's getting warmer because of the Suns expansion. The Sun ''pulses'' i.e. expands and contracts. It will soon go back to a contraction phase. Humans cannot influence the atmosphere to that extent. It's a lie created by the Elite to tax the planet more than they already do. More tax more control.
atolls sink with time. And New Orleans was built below sea level. Man makes bad decisions and I'm sure the Marshallese will adapt. The US should help build sea walls to pay for all the nuclear testing we did in the 50s.
@@MadMediaUSA I went ahead and deleted the comment. I'm not sure why it was said and frankly by who. Any family member can use my computer...this comments got me stumped??
The world should take a serious look at the plight of this beautiful people....they sacrificed everything for the misadventure of some power crazy nation's...their future generations should be safeguarded in their ancestoral lands!
As an American citizen raised here its sad. I came here at such a young age and now all my family finally came out here in 2017 it sucks I never got to go back.
I have traveled to Arkansas, Oklahoma, Iowa and Oregon and I know there are established Marshallese populations in those states (along with Hawaii). I have met a few of them. Lovely people!
We have to work together against the climate change and global warming, which is very important to the Marshall Island People. Lots Of Love From Nepal🇳🇵
As a islander myself, I moved to mainland years ago to have a better future for our family. This is heartbreaking to see happen and frustrating to know our current government withdrew from the Paris climate change agreement. U.S. seem like a cancer to our neighbors 😔
Ricky, you really need to check yourself. Our country bombed them with nuclear bombs, one bigger then the one we used on Japan. This wasn't right. This alone would devastate any country, not alone a small one like this. They had no way to recover from this. We destroyed their land, their homes, their people, their livelihood. And what do they get in return? Free pass to come live and work here, but no rights of citizenship? This isn't like the idiots that decide to live on the coast of say Florida and cry about a hurricane destroying their home and act like they can't believe that ever happened to them. Your a complete idiot if you believe what you wrote. But we have done very little for these people after destroying them like this. These people do see the damage caused by environmental damage we are doing. They are trying to do something about that. Trying to get people to see that we are damaging our planet. They are living proof of this. And the US getting out of the treaty is huge. Trump has cared less about the environment. All these laws and regulations in place to protect the environment and reduce the damage we are doing are crumbing away and being removed why a self centered person in office that cares only about himself. You sit here and cry about being taxed to death, but you do nothing about it but blame others. How about you educate yourself, apply yourself, and work on improving your conditions instead of crying about it and blaming others. We all live in this world together. Not everything is going to be tailored to your wants and desires. Other people have theirs as well that probably differ from yours. It's called compromise. It must be so easy to blame things on fake news, fake science, fake this or that simply because you don't want to accept something for face value. No one is getting rich saying theirs climate change, I don't know where you get this idea from. But since you believe its fake science, please provide your proof and evidence of this as their is a great amount of actual proof and evidence showing that climate change is real. This is just one piece of evidence.
@@danstun8567 The same level of elites that bombed those islands are the same ones pushing climate change on us today. They don't care about us no matter what they do. They have an agenda that doesn't include us, whether it includes bombs or climate taxation.
@@danstun8567 Climate change is always real, throughout history. But climate science is definitely being pushed for the globalist elite's agenda. Agenda 2030, and before that agenda 21. Environment is the excuse to force society into more subservience to the state.
@@prayunceasingly2029 Of course you're a Chr*stian, go figure. Get well soon, religious lunatic. Edit: As much as I wish to curse, the people who run RU-vid are snowflakes.
actually marshall island isn't an island. these lands are "atol". this situation makes them so special. a hundred years ago, before some tectonic movements, a volcano birth in the bottom of the sea. the laws become bigger than bigger and reach top of the sea. like a cake with full of chocolathe. after that, this laws getting cold and became a land. this is very special coral lands. the middle of the atols are shallow sea because of this volcanos movements. exactly like a pancake. but, the all atol have some risk, some scientist saying "if there is a big earthquake, all islanders will be drowned from tsunami." because all atols is on the fault line. the fault line birth the all atols, and one day, same fault line will kill the all islanders.
@@Abstractor21we will go to God for answers. No worries. But if you still doubt, then here is my answer, God is more real then you think. God is just real.😊
It's too expensive to do so. The sea around the island is extremely deep. It's not shallow like the one in Dubai. You would be spending less money by transporting all the people there to the US and give them home than building artificial islands.
@@justinesj3778 I didn’t watch the whole video so I don’t know if it was ever mentioned but do you think China is going to build artificial islands when the US has military bases so close? Including ones in the Marshall Islands, Guam etc. haha
Soos Ramirez I guess in 2-3 years all these families will be seeking settlement in larger countries like Australia and USA ... I’m so sorry ... watching the info about the Bravo shot horrendous
Never knew this place existed and I'm now here educating myself after reading about how there is a massive Covid outbreak on the island for the first time ever. Super sad. Hoping for the best for the resilient people of The Marshall Islands.
There was a time, that America came to the Marshall Islands, and experimented on the people, there is a documentary, if you would like to know that part. Marshall Islands people know the trickery of evil better now

Money. Both China & UAE are rich countries (at least wealthy enough for that kind of project). And Ig nobody wants to spend the money to help them out because this is humanity, a species of greed & selfishness 🙃

Dude said: I'll be the last one to sail away from the island🙄 Me who is marshallese: oooh will see about that😐 I'll return to marshall island and see who leaves first😲
It was 2 degrees warmer during egyptian times the planet has actually cooled since then..I am curious if these ppl could have the middle east and Amsterdam two areas with expertise on building islands on the sea to help witha plan to save the islands ...what the usa did was unexcusable imo ...
It's a country where after years the sea erodes the land. This has nothing to do with rising sea level. First how much has the sea rose there. Probably zero. In Spain every year near Marbella the beach gets washed away. This is not from sea level rise. It's from storms and swells. And the sea goes back to normal.
sPongebItch bObface what’s wrong with saying that? You even mentioned there are lots of stuff to talk about. Let the man choose what he wants to talk about.
@@oysterbar857 I'm pretty sure he's talking about his own mother my dude, although I don't want to make assumptions, his mother most likely lives on the islands.
I just watched a Curiosity Stream documentary on the subject entitled "The Final Years of Majuro." To be bluntly honest, my empathy for the islanders was seriously diminished when I saw unbelievable scenes of trash that they throw in the ocean. They use it as a garbage dump. Their credibility calling on the rest of the world to care for the planet - when they are horrible stewards of their own land. Land they say they cherish, but their actions don't match their words!
It's not if you take away our land our spirits go too it's If you take away our land there is nothing else to take away because our land is our spirits and we all share the same land in order to keep our bondage and culture together..
I live in Hawaii, Hawaiian people are the most prejudice people I've ever met. Marshal island people are here and are not welcome by Hawaiians. They were put here by the guilty American government. God bless the marshall island people. I've met and talked to many . And I hold back from crying from sadness and horror that these people went through. Their homelands and sacred sites and burial sites all desecrated. They told me stories of their relatives that seen the white ash falling and played with it like snow. These people get blamed for thefts and corruption. They are hard working , kind , loving people. I am ashamed to be white skinned and to be American. I can't believe our government bombed these innocent people and experimented on them. The women that had babies were delivering blobs of breathing flesh they called them jellyfish. A ball of mutated flesh breathing. I'm crying as I type this. It saddens me deeply. I wish I can change history. God bless the marshall Islanders.
‘Hawaiians are the most prejudice people’ Coming from a European American who doesn’t understand our history or how prejudice against other Pacifica was brought to hawaii, by your own people. Fn ignorant
Better opportunities also all Marshallese citizens are allowed to go to the U.S and vice versa but minimum wage pays better than most jobs in the Marshall Islands and it is near impossible to get anything in the Marshall Islands since it’s basically just “royalty” who control everything
Plants more trees wherever there is land let there be a balance and Afforestation is a way to help Earth and small islands like Marshall Islands to still remain ,
2 We are in December. It's trade season for the merchants of the temple. Those bishops and prophets of Satan will shout again in their supermarkets, harvest festivals and prayer vigils: "Come and get your blessing! Your star must shine! Come and get your wedding, your visa, ... You customers who have 1000 dollars, come! Go to the cashier! You too who have 10 dollars, come! Even you customers who have coins, come here! There are all kinds of prices! There are blessings of 100 dollars, 2 dollars, 1 dollar. Go to the cashier".
I went to job corp with about a hundred Marshall island people. First time I ever tried dried fish. I never new anyone from there. A lot of them stayed in Utah.
Still have my Kwaj balls, Kwaj shirt, rusted-to-hell Kwaj bike and LBGA (Laid Back Golfer's Association) flip flops. Everything about the islands this side of Ebeye's Pamper fish was amazing - especially the diving. Someday I'll own beachfront property ... where I will EOExcavate pools like the Japanese did on Kwajalein's beaches and go fishing with a pool net.
There are plenty of arid regions around the world that desperately need desalinated sea water . Remove the salt and pump it through pipelines to those areas. The salt can even help cover the cost of the project.
Detonating Bravo during WW2 was criminal, considering this was/is an island nation with inhabitants close by! The USA could have tested this bomb in the wilds of Alaska or some other remote area.

I was there in the late 90s with the army 70th Engr Co for mapping and GPS. The most beautiful place in the world but its also one of the poorest places in the entire world. The US helps the Marshall Islands people with money and services But they really don't have much besides fishing and coconut fiber export.
@@annieblumentritt9518 that's true and unfortunately it has long lasting effects for the environment, more importantly the people the used to live there. Also the events of WWII can be found spread across the atoll, diving on wrecks of ships and planes brings In tourism dollars. Japanese controlled islands of Roi and kwaj still have cement structures. Some areas it was warned my still have unexploded ordinance in the water. My Grandfather was on the CVE 71 that supported the Marines invation of Kwajalien and lived through the Battle of Layte Gulf. I sympathize with the Marshallese people but no amount of money, emission laws will stop the inevitable, there’s a reason why it’s an atoll, it’s been sinking before it was even inhabited
