@@redonetwo1 So that's who this guy is, a Chui Sheong Tin disciple. Figures, what with the Aussie accent and all. CST isn't so well known here in the States, mind you. And the super internal approach seems pretty sketchy. If I lived on that side of the globe, I think I'd be more interested in what Alan Orr has to offer. His boys (and girls) can fight in the real world!
@inspiringothers7197
@inspiringothers7197 4 года назад
@@VTSifuSteve Lmao, learning personally from one of CSTs best students has shown me how real this stuff is, and actually not very hard to attain, if you're given the correct set of instructions. Nima was always going off translators and touch/feel from CST, as CST couldn't speak any English. Alan Orr doesn't even begin to approach Nima or any of the internal practitioners here. No joke, if we unleash the full extent of our force, we can tear peoples limbs off, much the same as most animals can, unfortunately humans have a conscious mind that likes to interfere making this hard to learn for some people that are unable to shut their mind up and allow it to focus properly, others, like myself and my master (CST's best student in my opinion), picked it up very quickly. Internal is for some people, and not for others, same for external. Work with what you've been given, the body, the mind, all of it, and find what works best for you. There's enough martial arts out there to cater to every type of person and their physical and mental makeups. :)

@@VTSifuSteve Haha of course not! But it's possible. This amount of power would never be used normally. Really the only instance you would unleash all of your force would be when you're about to be killed, and the only way out is to kill the other person first. Half of my force hits you in the chest(heart side), I will stop your heart, this is why we're not allowed to use anything more than 30% of our force for demos, otherwise the force begins to become very destructive.

Student playing up the masters force is what was happening. The correct use of body mass (due to releasing tension) does not magically manifest into being able to "possess" someone, or lightly touch them and move them down to the floor, and have them convulsing on the floor afterwards, I don't get why some students do this when there is a camera around, it only adds to the suspicion of people who haven't felt this force before. Oh well, there will always be people like this, a couple of people like reacting to my force in strange ways like this as well, whereas the vast majority of people I demo this on, or the people I teach, outside of 2 people, everybody else reacts normally and as expected. I tend to just ignore what's happening in these videos when students overplay the force being used, as I know it's a drastic overreaction.

People criticize and dislike what they don't understand. The internal art is new to westerners. It looks like a joke to most. If you are smart you are open to knew things. The ability to control internal energy looks very interesting to me. I have so many questions. A big one is why are most masters thin and look like they don't eat much. I don't mean that in any insulting way. It's just that internal masters do not usually talk much about fighting. They show the obvious benefits but do not show any fighting. Knowing how to control this energy alone would end a fight very quickly and probably to use it in mma is up to the individual, and so far no mma fighter has used it, that I know of. I think n internal practitioner might not be welcome in mma because he would destroy other fighters in a very one sided battle, which is not necessarily fun to watch. So study of internals would become necessary in order to be competitive. I suppose in old China, the strongest masters were internal practitioners at least to some extent. Those movies with the flying and crazy moves is not at far fetched as I once thought. One question is whether the chi is really just electrical energy. The brain functions on electricity so if one could control that electricity and direct it into another persons body, it could short circuit them. That's a thought because no one really explains or knows whT chi really is. Energy? It's not magic
@Yerbluesful
@Yerbluesful 4 года назад
@@perrypelican9476 That's pure fantasy. There are no records of "internal" stylists, at least not in the way you think of it, using chi to win fights. There are records of xingyi and yi chuan guys winning, but it was because they hit hard and had good tactics and sparres. A group of 5 Tai chi practitioners went to fight the Thais in the 50's, I believe it was and got demolished. Another group of CMA guys went again in the 80's...same thing. They practiced chi gong and all that and it didnt help them on bit. The fights were no longer than a minute, with most knockouts happening in seconds. The Thais knew how to fight cuz they did it often, the CMA guys that went didnt. In the tournament's held in the early part of the 20th century held by both Nationalists government and Communist Party, not one Tai Chi or "Chi" stylist won. The guys who one were then ones who crossed trained in boxing/ and or sparred alot. There is no substitute to fighting. Its like theorizing the best way to ride a bike and showing how to on a stationary, but never actually riding for real without training wheels...and then falling on your ass the first time you try for real.
@perrypelican9476
@perrypelican9476 4 года назад
The real Mcfly55 mma , boxing, etc are sports with strict rules. Do you really trust the Chinese communist party? Kung fu is meant to win fights at all costs. Do you think it makes sense for a person training to kill or badly hurt an enemy to fight someone who fights as a sport. You only see sport fights, not close to real fighting. The internal fighters can kill you quickly and easily but of course they do not.
@Yerbluesful
@Yerbluesful 4 года назад
These were fights held not only by the PRC but also the Nationalist government before. Wang Xiangzhai, who studied Xingyi under renowned teacher Guo Yunshen and founder of Yi Chuan have an interview kn thr 1940s about the sad state of affairs regarding Tai Chi. And This was in the 40's BEFORE Communist take over, so it goes to show that Tai Chi had been in a decline for quite sometime...alo Wang Xiangzhai was a fighter who didnt believe in chi powers...most Chinese martial artists who had actual fighting experience didnt buy in to that stuff. Lama Pai Master Chan Tai San was another fighter who competed and fought in WW2 against the Japanese with broadsword, but is favored tactic was using bare hands, and he didnt believe in chi powers either...so you dont consider War real life, life or death I dont know what is. Link below to the interview www.internalartsinternational.com/free/essence-boxing-science-interview-mr-wang-xiang-zhai-part-1/
@Yerbluesful
@Yerbluesful 4 года назад
And by the way, where are getting this info about being able to kill people easily??? You've been watching too many Shaw Bro. movies man 😂. Show me any proof of this, any documented case. There are documented cases of Lei Tai fights in as far back as the 19th century, maybe a little further, and None...were won by someone using Chi powers. Plus you realize the term "internal" or nejia, wasnt even coined until the 20th century right? Truth is, like my Sifu and other Chinese fighters have said, there is no magic in Kung fu, just hard work. Plus, what does trusting the PRC have anything to do with documented tournament's? It happened and the participants were traditional stylists. In fact, in one tournament , Chan Tai San and his Lama Pai Sihing came in 2nd and 3rd, respectively. The winner was a Xingyi stylist. When Disciple David Ross asked his what special moves or tactics he used, Chan Tai San said "He just hit really hard". Again, where is your proof other than kung fu movies?

Let me preface this with the fact that I'm a believer in qi, & mind force. I'm watching Adam & I notice that almost everytime when he expels someone, he is almost always directly to their side, maybe 75 to 85 degrees. This is the most unstable direction that someone can receive an attack, the legs do not naturally move in that direction. So it is easy to throw someone off balance. This is not to say there isn't still something going on.

I would love to see a fight against someone using internals. The effectiveness is obvious, but I wonder how it is against a very violent and fast striking and skilled opponent. I don't care about who would win or lose because fighting is multidimensional but the question is what is the best path to becoming a good fighter. Is it to ignore the external stuff until the internal is at a certain point or train both together? I don't see much on RU-vid about that question. I think mizner is strong on building internal first but not sure. And is a muscular body counterproductive for internals. I have not seen any well built internal practitioners. I guess the definition of well built is a matter of opinion.

In real fight, performed by a real fighter, internal MA would look exactly like an external MA. There is not such a thing as internal or external fighting, because fighting is fighting. It's only the training method that changes. To become a good fighter, don't train internal MA ! Internal MA is not meant for fighting, it's for self-cultivation. Internal MA uses fighting as a tool to develop spirituality, fighting is the way, not the destination. It' would simply be a loss of time to train internal MA if your aim is simply to become a top fighter.

If you want to see some really cool fighting techniques, I just love the RU-vid channel "world class boxing channel". No blocking, no connecting, no standing upright in the pocket in striking range, but a lot of how to position yourself to avoid being hit in the first place while doing the attack. The series that he has on Mike Tyson and the peek a boo style of Cus D'Amato is pretty cool. To me, that's the highest level, where you are anticipating your opponent's next move, then moving and attacking in such a manner that he can't hit you, but they are left vulnerable. I'm not about to attack these presenters, as fighting is probably not their primary focus, but I would give a word of warning to those who try using this to defend themselves. It's pretty impossible to relax when getting punched in the face. Not everything needs to be about fighting. I was always told that Chinese Boxing was about health, exercise, and then self defense. When you prioritize the art in this manner it makes more sense to the average person looking at it. They are practicing a particular skill set, and are not learning to fight, or to be fighters. If fighting is what the main end goal is, you would train in completely different manner, I don't know, maybe something like Cus D'Amoto's style.

I wonder if these masters will pair with each other? as it does in other martial arts. should pair together to check what works and what does not work in a fight under pressure. I am not saying that they can't do anything, I am sure they would kick ass in 2 seconds and I think many athletes too. they should work and check what works, what doesn't work, so that their techniques become better and knowledge. or maybe maybe they are so powerful that they don't fight because they don't want to kill each other or hurt each other. while I am curious because I would like to see a fight between some mma fighter and a qi master not so fake as on the internet but them;)

Some talk about it in a self defence context like your attacker is going to be relaxed and go with the flow. Not to disregard the good guys here who do make it work against resistance. Nima is an excellent teacher who could make a shopping list sound interesting. I never did wing chun but find the overemphasis of body structure can be detrimental to being more relaxed than your opponent (this opinion doesn't apply to Nima) and not being aware of the abstract concepts of chi (or whatever you call it) gives your opponent a distinct advantage over you if they have even rudimentary sensitivity to it that is greater than yours.
@Livingtree32
@Livingtree32 4 года назад
@@danielidoine766 Hmm, where do you see the contradiction between body structure and relaxation? In my experience, the correct body structure is what allows relaxation to happen. In our Chen Taiji, correct structure is the main objective in the beginning and absolutely necessary to have real relaxation.
@danielidoine766
@danielidoine766 4 года назад
@@Livingtree32 I also do Chen tai chi and know Chen structure is great for feeling rooted. But it also masks inabilities in peng and relaxation. If you are in a deep stance it takes work to maintain it, and this is often achieved with muscle tension so you may have loosened your kua but are using tense muscles to do that somewhere else in your body. Ultimately, the highest level of tai chi is no form and no structure and complete song (while under pressure). We just need the structures to help us reach that goal along the way.
@Livingtree32
@Livingtree32 4 года назад
@@danielidoine766 Then your experience is very different from mine. I have one serious issue with the Tai Chi at the beginning. It looks like the practice is similar to what I have encountered with push hands before. By that I mean ninety percent of the uke's response (sorry if I'm using japanese terminology for convenience, I don't know the chinese equivalent) can be derived from the single limiting principle that he must try to retain his feet in their initial position. Footwork is foundational in boxing, muay thai, wrestling, fencing... basically all martial arts. Nearly all of these unbalancing exercises seem rooted in the premise that they will work perfectly if you deny that foundation to your opponent. Which is only problematic if you think you might find yourself squaring off against someone who thinks it's fair to take a step in order to preserve their balance. Otherwise, you're golden.
@Cynry
@Cynry 4 года назад
Good point. I practice mainly taichi and I find traditional push hands to be an oddity, in terms of actual applications. It's mainly to riff on and show off high level internal skills, but when it comes to fighting, these internal skills are meant to power the good old external approach of striking/wrestling. Also, regardless of style, if you just stepped to preserve balance as a reaction to the opponent's pressure, he has the upper hand for the next move. Especially against "masters of balance", they would know where you need to step to keep your balance, so they can in theory predict your coming move. Tai chi does include striking and all that jazz (because it's about biomechanics principles, not specific techniques), but one of the style's favorite range is similar to the clinch of muay thai, and looks pretty much like it when applied in messy real life fights. And it makes sense, it's the range that when mastered offers the most control (3-4 points of contact easily) and the most devastating attacks (elbows, "locks", throws, eye scratching).

So question I'm pondering...I'm a firm believer in the internal arts/power--so I'm not coming from a skeptics POV...but I'm wondering why some lifetime/long term practitioner's on the internal arts never develop internal power to any significant/practical degree. I was in touch with one such person on Quora. He teaches Tai Chi, has been practicing the art for 35 years, yet has stated he only occasionally feels chi but not to the degree that he's able to incorporate it into his tai chi practice. I'm usually good at (full of) theories but on this one I'm at a loss to explain it. I only mentioned to him in passing that internal arts can be like any talent/skill. Some people are just born with those talents (and certainly work hard to develop them) but therein in part (perhaps) lies an explanation for why some people tap into their internal power & are able to use it & others...not so much. But I'd be curious what people think on the subject?
@tubesism
@tubesism 4 года назад
Fast Eddy Love-Muffin Define chi in this context? Because you don’t develop a mystical extra energy that’s bullshit. Maybe some don’t develop a divine body connection and supreme sensitivity/coordination because they go to a class twice a week and that’s it? That’s significantly less training than is required. Nothing done in the above video is magic. Most of it comes from one guy being in a strong position and the other guy in a weak position. Or one guy refusing to relax while the other just sinks. I’m still looking for a video where a guy is willing to show all these principles in a sparring context. It will never look this pretty, or perfect, but it should be able to be done.
@fasteddylove-muffin6415
@fasteddylove-muffin6415 4 года назад
@@tubesism You took my question completely out of context in several ways. My frame of reference was someone who has practiced for 35 years, diligently, who in fact teaches Tai Chi. When you reference someone that goes to class twice a week (and you don't say for how long--twice a week for 6 years or twice a week for 60 years?--and how much did they practice on their own?) I'm a believer. I don't need convincing. I might ask you though, define "magic" as in nothing done in this video is magic. It's a demonstration of chi power--fah jin--regardless of one person being in the strong person & the other being in the weak position. My opinion...if it were combat sparring and/or a street fight and we picked random opponents--everyone from trained martial artists in both hard & soft styles & students learning the martial arts to macho guys with beer muscles--the results would be random but I wouldn't put my hard earned cash on the macho guy with the beer muscles & bravado. Results of these fights would be everywhere from submission by the masters to these masters kicking ass to them having their ass kicked. Why do we believe that soft-chi-style master would win EVERY fight & why do we believe that these soft style masters WOULD LOSE every fight to a trained hard style master or black belt? Of course there's going to be varied results & losing one, losing many, winning a few, winning many fights does not prove that chi-fah-gin-internal power does not exist or IS NOT EFFECTIVE in a fight.
@danielidoine766
@danielidoine766 4 года назад
I think it depends what your friend considers Tai chi. You can practice single person forms for eternity and it wouldn't give you sensitivity to another person and you wouldn't know if you have bad structure as it's not pressure tested. You also need a teacher that is proficient in partner practice and chi type exercises in order to be guided the right away. Perhaps some people have some innate ability but it's extremely rare compared to people who train diligently to learn these skills. And it really does take that Chinese emptying your cup cliché to forget what you think you know. If you only stick with what you know and understand, you can't develop and can be stuck on the plateau for years. Even if you do push hands, you can believe you are doing it right when actually you are just wrestling by using external forces and full of tension with no peng. It takes meeting somebody like Adam Mizner to be hit with the bitter realisation you are still a baby in tai chi terms.

Let’s address the enormous McDojo/Bullshido-shaped elephant in the room in a calm, compassionate, analytical way. I’m not just a faceless internet troll. I’ve devoted 12 years of my life to the study of Taiji in China, I’m a 6th generation lineage disciple in Yang Family Taiji (you can check my real identity here instagram.com/barnabytaichi/?hl=en ). In this video I see some wonderful high-level internal martial arts. From the depth of my heart, I celebrate that! I also see some deeply disturbing things that serve nobody, least of all us practitioners of the internal martial arts. None of the teachers are involved in testing their skills against totally uncompliant opponents. Martial arts is about controlling violent situations. If you don’t ever practice against real violence (that wielded by someone who doesn’t share the assumptions of your training practices) then, bit by bit, you can become dislocated from reality. Exposure to real violence happens in the combat sports in a controlled and safe environment. This exposure to the chaotic and unpredictable reality of real violence is a reality check - it shows you where you really are and has a brilliant capacity to check egos. Without this exposure to incompliance, egos become embalmed in their own assumptions. What is on display here is a perfect example of this. Why do these masters not expose themselves to the friendly dojos and gyms of the combat sports when so many others who are weaker, more frail and less capable of fighting do so on a daily basis? When you have fused your identity/career/income etc. so closely with being a ‘master’ of something that is never tested, to test it against reality is an extremely dangerous thing lest what you claim is exposed to be fraudulent. You might say “But the partners in pushing hands WERE resisting!”. From years and years of pushing hands with my own teachers, I know full well that there are layers and layers of subconscious compliance that are almost impossible to get away from when you are a student training with your own teacher. Even when you try to resist, conventions of manners/ethics dictate that you will resist in a pre-defined way. The culture of the situation dictates that it is not in the student’s interest to resist in a way that is outside of the specific ‘game’. In a pushing hands ‘game’, it is not in the student’s interest to move into kicking distance and try to kick the teacher in the head. That kind of thing only happens in the safe and kind environment of a combat sports gym or in a real-life violent situation. Therefore, how can these skills be called “martial” when there is no violence? Yes, there are skills that can potentially be applied in a martial context, great skills, skills that need to be taught. What a shame that ego comes in the way of that sublime work. You can only ever learn how to fight by actually fighting, yet fighting is an uncomfortable thing. It involves be wrong, being shown your weaknesses, having to lay aside your ego and humble yourself. The internal martial arts will never contribute their rightful authentic lesson to the body of human wisdom until practitioners and teachers of the internal martial arts are willing to humble themselves in the face of reality. You can ignore me, but in 2020 you cannot, nor can you afford to, ignore what I have said. With love, Barnaby Kent

Its like why Bruce Lee never went to the ring, this masters are humble and their techniques are not intended to fight nor damage people but transmitting their energy they can control truh the contact and relaxation, they can not ask a real opponent to get relax so they can beatem out. This is energy transmitting only regardles of the name of the style.

@@blockmasterscott Then it should be called exercise and not a martial art or considered a combat system. For most people martial arts are for fighting: boxing, kick boxing, bjj, karate, judo, Muay Thai. It's funny Bruce Lee is mentioned, the example he used, when describing this type of "martial artist", is a man laying on a bench kicking his legs and moving his arms perfecting his swimming stroke, he jumps into the water and drowns. If you want to learn how to swim you have to get into the water. If you want to learn how to fight you have to engage in fighting. Even Sifu Sergio, who has kind of gone down this road, brags about being a purple belt in bjj. You have to ask yourself, why does he need bjj if he's cultivated all of this chi and internal power?

For the love of the gods, next time will you please SHOW THEIR FEET and their FOOTWORK. All of the upper body work is fascinating, yes, but does not work without their feet. This is incredibly frustrating, as the principles their techniques utilize require an understanding of their footwork and their relation to the ground beneath them. For example, what little we see of Master Mizner's feet shows he adopts a very basic footwork of his front foot pointing forward to his opponent and his rear foot slightly offset from centerline with the rear toes pointed outward about 45 degrees. Otherwise a fascinating video, and thank you for posting these.

I do honestly want to believe, BUT... after having some real practical experience in doing "push-hands" with some very experienced people, I cannot convince myself with what I'm seeing here. I cannot see it working without consent or even submission of the opponent. We do have that time to time when your opponent kind of accepting your superiority before they even try to fight. It gives you this feeling of achieving easy results and being super-balanced and all, BUT that is just "being it beaut", it is a lie. The easiest person to fool is always one self. I would put very serious doubts in this amazing techniques until it is put to a real test. In this video, unfortunately, I don't see that test. What I see is more like a cult where "believers" want the magic to work and they do make it work by what looks like submission to it.
