"I am alive. And unfortunately, commander Lewis's disco music still survived". And somehow, he survived 590 sols with just 2kg of potatoes by planting them in martian soil when he used his own poo poo as manure and creating a atmosphere for the plants by burning hydrogen in space. This movie deserved an Oscar. Wait.......... Even better,.......... It got an Oscar. Matt Damon, mind blowing acting !

It is true...we need to solve one problem after another problem after another one here on planet Earth. Let's build a solar PV powered world economy cycling our technology like we cycle our biological nutrients. Steel to steel, copper to copper all the way along. I just rewatched The Martian and it's amazing how much the norms of space travel have changed in just the 5 years since the movie was made. Although it's set in 2035, and despite having a rather huge and sophisticated Mars ship (Ares 3) already in orbit (and the assumption that large Mars Ascent Vehicles are routinely sent to the red planet), the film doesn't have any mention of how those things got there, and seems to assume that launching rockets to orbit is still an uncommon thing possible only by NASA and other national space agency (notably the Chinese CNSA) and must have one-off space vehicles custom designed. Who could have imagined that in 2020, SpaceX launches 3 or 4 missions a month with reusable boosters and standard reusable crew and cargo capsules (to say nothing of the silver Starships in development)? Elon could probably have scraped together a Falcon Heavy + Cargo Dragon resupply mission in a couple of months using today's hardware, to say nothing of what would be available in 2035.
@MrShadowRaiden
@MrShadowRaiden 2 года назад
hate to break it to you but none of spacex stuff would launch to the moon. they launch 3-4 missions a year and those are all unmanned rockets thats it and even then most are barely doing missions to outer atmospheres. even starlink had failed launches recently on new satalites.
@ariochiv
@ariochiv 2 года назад
@@MrShadowRaiden I guess you've never heard of Artemis or Lunar Starship. And the recent Starlink losses had nothing to do with the launch; it was solar activity that expanded the exosphere, which interfered with some of the satellites' ability to reach the proper orbits.

@@ariochiv i have heard about them and unlike you did research on them instead of just being an Elon fan boy. Edacoose, the Ironman bit was over dramatized and unrealistic. Any off axis thrust would have caused him to rotate around his center of mass. They did show him rotate some but not nearly enough especially when he's holding his arm along his body. They did mention that he would find it very difficult to control which was correct. I haven't read the book so I don't know if this was in it, but realistically it would have been best for him to hold his hand as close to his center of mass as possible to limit his rotation and also just initiate his movement with short bursts of air. Still, it was a neat scene and added drama to the movie so I can forgive it.

@@lawrencewestby9229 No, it wasn't in it. Watney's recovery was believable in the book. There were two communication systems for the HAB. The primary system was destroyed when the dish that blew off and hit Watney at the beginning. The secondary system was contained in the Mars Ascent Vehicle, and that system left when the "surviving" crew blasted off of Mars in the MAV. There was never supposed to be humans on the planet when the MAV was not also on the planet in close proximity to them. Most of the movie is realistic. The most unrealistic thing is the storm at the beginning. Due to how thin Mars' atmosphere is a 200kph windstorm would have about the same force as a 2-4kph breeze on Earth. The storm portrayed in the movie is impossible on Mars.
