The Baltimore was a twin-engine attack bomber developed by the Glenn L. Martin Company during World War II, primarily for the British and Allied forces under the Lend-Lease Act. Designed to supersede the Martin 167 Maryland, the Baltimore featured enhanced armaments, a deeper fuselage, and more powerful engines. Although it never saw combat with American forces, it was extensively utilized by the British, Canadian, Australian, South African, Greek, and Italian air forces across various theaters of war. Praised for its robustness and versatility, the Baltimore served in roles ranging from reconnaissance to anti-submarine warfare, although it encountered challenges during low-level attacks due to its design constraints. By the end of its production in May 1944, over 1,500 Baltimore's had been manufactured, significantly contributing to Allied air operations during the war.
