Happy 25th birthday to my amazing girlfriend Chelsea (@chelseaap40)! In honor of the latest iteration of the most uniquely special time of the year for my special someone, I’m posting a showcase video for the one and only DVD release of your favorite original series from Cartoon Network, The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack.
And now, the obligatory crash course for those who need one…
The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack: Volume 1 is a single-disc DVD release containing the first five 22-minute installments of the aforementioned series. It unfortunately remains that show’s one and only DVD release. However, this wasn’t always going to be the case - a Volume 2 was planned, intending to pick up right where the prior volume disc left off, but ended up getting cancelled when the show itself got cancelled in 2010. One nice aspect (no pun intended) about this DVD release is that it preserves the early episodes of the series it contains in widescreen like they were produced but not originally aired in, marking the only time Flapjack had any of its episodes prior to the show's third and final season (which DID originally air in widescreen) officially released in 16x9 prior to the show’s addition to HBO Max when the service launched in May 2020,...until the show left HBO Max (now simply Max) in May 2023. Will we ever get a Complete Series box set for Flapjack with every single episode accounted for in widescreen? Eh, I doubt it, but I’d like to be proven wrong in this case.
Anyways, here is the equally obligatory rundown of every single thing you will find in this overview of The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack: Volume 1 on DVD…
OPENING:
1.) FBI warning (the 16x9 variant of the one Warner Bros. used on all their physical media releases from 2004-09)
2.) Warner Home Video logo (1996-2001; 2004-19) (regular strings variant; 16x9)
3.) Chowder: Volume 2 DVD promo
4.) Bakugan: Volume 4 - Heroes Rise DVD commercial
5.) Ben 10 Alien Force: Volume 3 DVD ad
6.) Batman: The Brave and the Bold - “Now Airing on Cartoon Network and Coming Soon to DVD” promo
7.) Main menu and Episode Selection screen
8.) The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack intro
CLOSING:
1.) Ending to the episode “Skooled/Snarked”
2.) INTERPOL warning (the same one seen right after the end of the feature presentation on every single Warner Bros. DVD ever since the very first one all the way back in 1997) (16x9 variant)
3.) Meet Thurop! (featurette)
4.) Adventures in Voice Acting (featurette)
5.) Adventures in Animation (featurette)
6.) Misadventures in Song (music video using behind-the-scenes footage!) (curiously, the video is centered around a song included in an episode not on this disc)
And that’s it! Curiously, there is no Trailers menu on this DVD, meaning that there aren’t any promos besides the ones at the start of the disc, and those promos aren’t accessible once they’re finished unless if you reload the DVD to go back to its very start.
