The dog was one of the best dogs I saw in a movie. Especially when he was getting the keys from the sleeping police officer. He acted nervous and worried like a human would have if they thought the cop was going to wake up. Tina was played by Cameron Diaz and this was her first movie role. I can't believe that The Mask, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, and Dumb and Dumber will be 30 years old next year.
Part of the excitement about this movie was that CGI was very new and we had never seen these kind of effects before. It was like magic. A whole new moviegoing experience.
Did you know that Jim Carrey was only supposed to use those teeth temporarily, but he was able to talk throughout the whole movie using those teeth? That's amazing talent!
Milo is the best dog ever. Also this is from the best years of Jim Carrey when he did this one Dumb & Dumber, Cable Guy and the Ace Ventura movies within a few years. Top tier comedy movies all of them.
That dog (Milo in the movie, but "Max" in real life) is highly intelligent. He watches the face of the guard as he pulls on the key to make sure he stays asleep.
This is one of those movies that was just so much fun during my childhood. It's very random and chaotic, but so much fun. And Milo is such a great character. If he wasn't in this movie I really do think it wouldn't have been as good. Great casting choice.
13:27 I once asked a young lady if she wanted to learn how to swing dance. She didn't know what I was talking about, so I showed her this movie and emphasized this scene. At the end of it, she said she didn't think she had the energy. Apparently, swing dancing is a _very_ energetic dance style.
The mask in this movie came from a name you are familiar with, "Loki" the god of mischief from the Norse mythology. So the mask itself was supposedly created by the same God "Loki" from the marvel studios movies with Thor, iron man, Captain America and so on! It was created in the fourth century according to myth!
Little Dasha you have such a sweet gentle pure soul, never let anyone change you or the way you look at life. I keep watching everything you do and it always warms my heart and I think there is hope for the world if there is more like you. Your preasus and I hope the world is kind to you little Angel. 😇💝🦋💐🥂
Everybody knows that all good boys need their cheese tax to perform at optimal levels, he gets the cheese, you get the keys 😄 Milo was always my favorite
As much as I would not like to listen and play the piano only bebop and hardbop, but damn, there is such swing jazz here that I immediately want to find someone who performs "Hey Pachuco"
That was fun. You may (or may not) be interested to know that the original “Mask” -1961 film was a Canadian Horror that had 3-D sequences. When the main character put on the mask, we in the theater put on 3-D glasses to view the nightmare. As a little kid I was pretty scared but when I saw it again about 20 years later it was quite dreadful, but a totally different story line than this film. Check out Jim Carrey in “The Cable Guy”-1996 with Mathew Broderick.
3:09 "Dirt nap" is being shoveled underground? Essentially. "Taking a dirt nap" simply means you're dead and buried. It's saying you're "sleeping" (actually dead) while covered in dirt.
3:12 “Dirt nap” just means killed. It doesn’t mean buried alive or anything, just that you will be taking the forever nap and thus be buried in the dirt.
Dasha - I’ve been watching a lot of reaction videos this year, but only recently watched several of yours. I just want to say you do a great job editing and providing analysis of the movies. I’ve been impressed with how much of balanced perspective you’ve give in your commentary. You seem very smart as well as having a great sense of humor, and I have enjoyed your reactions. Keep up the good work.
TRIVIA: the reporter Peggy Brant actually died in a deleted scene, that's why you can no longer see her right after her scene in the newspaper factory..
14:54 LOL when he fakes the Oscars..so real he bad guy was smoothing his hair and straightening his suit! 19:35- That's why Carrey got the role..his rubber-body type movements made him the only guy that could bring this Dark Horse Comics series to life! 25:35..Milo's breed is recognized as one of the 10 smartest dogs by the experts..You can see them in the movie, "My Dog Skip', or on the T'V comedy series, "Frazier"
Yep, "dirt nap" means you will be dead. Similar to "sleep with the fishes" which has been popular since the Godfather film. Nice reactions to the very fun and animated Mask film, Dasha!!!🎬👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽This was Cameron Diaz's film debut, and she was a good deal curvier in her younger days. She was only 21 years old here.
This is the movie that put Cameron Diaz on the map. That first moment when she walked into the bank made EVERYBODY take notice. I love how the "bad girl" ends up being good, and the "good girl" betrays him for her own gain (there's a deleted scene where she does get her comeuppance; Dorian kills her after putting the Mask on for the first time by throwing her in that printing press). It's a BRILLIANT twist on the archetypes. I knew you'd turn to mush over Milo, lol. And I was waiting for your reaction to Milo with the Mask. 😀 It should be noted: This movie seriously, SERIOUSLY toned down the comic it was based on. In the original comic Stanley becomes an outright murderous psychopath when he wears the mask, (where is alter-ego is called Big Head, no The Mask) not the cartoony anti-hero of the film. He's still FUNNY, but in a black humor sort of way. For instance, he outright murders the gang who confronts him the first time he puts on the Mask. Stanley is killed by Kellaway at the end of the first story arc, and it's actually Kellaway who takes over and...more or less...manages to control Big Head.
I saw this movie as a child and the golfing scene scared the crap out of me. I was convinced Dorian was going to get his nose whacked off or something.
The special effects guys made those huge prosthetics teeth for Jim thinking that they'd have to dub in his voice later since they thought it would be impossible for anyone to talk normally while wearing them. But Jim proved them wrong by learning how to do it in a very short time. "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective" put him on the map, but this one was actually filmed first. it just took them extra time to add the visual effects, etc. The sequel ("Son of the Mask") should be avoided at all costs. It is a huge unfunny dumpster fire.
This is definitely a great comedy rendition of Jekyll and Hyde. Substitute the mask for a special medicine and there you have it. At first it's helpful, and only lasts a while, but after a while it takes over.
The actor playing Jim Carey’s friend is a stand up comedian named Richard Jenni. Unfortunately he took his own life, which is sad because he was one of the better performers of his time. If you get a chance I’d recommend checking his stand up material. He was very funny in his own right. ☹️
This movie happen in a 'comic' universe, where magic and super powers are a normal thing for the people of that earth. Great movie and great rection!!!
This is such a funny movie and back in 1994 when it came out, I used to say all the lines my freshman year in high school haha. This was a busy year for Jim, since he did this, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and Dumb & Dumber. Jim did a good job in Batman Forever too.
#TheNietzschean Observation:: You've watched Dumb and Dumber. Now you've seen The Mask (the sequel isn't bad). ... you must watch Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. This trio was prophesied to "Make Carrey a star" ... "Liar, Liar" ... "The Cable Guy" ... "Bruce Almighty (You may have seen this one)"
To this day, I still want to see an R-rated Mask movie like the comics were. Imagine the potential if Jim Carrey were unleashed with the same energy of In Living Color but with no censor.
A girlfriend of mine got me a Mask doll that had a button on the back of its head that popped the eyes out. The journalist is much cuter; red hair always trumps blonde.
Say, would you happen to know where the "Hold me closer, it's getting dark" line is from? I don't think any Wiki I've seen was able to figure out, even the ones that correctly identify the other movie references in that scene. (eg. Tiny Tim=Christmas Carol, Scarlet=Gone With the Wind, Auntie Em=Wizard of Oz etc.)
This is a classic entertaining movie but I think the big thing that everyone doesn’t get about this movie is that it’s so original and unique ✅🤷♂️ A magical mask that is unexplainably in a locked box underwater gets coincidentally broken open randomly found by Jim Carrey and then is somehow possessed by the mask when he puts it on because the mask turns you into like a cartoon character with super powers 🤔 and depending on what type of a person you are the mask will either make you funnier if you’re already funny or worse if you’re already bad 😂 they just don’t make movies or come up with ideas like this anymore lol 💯
