@@sassbrat apparently, Morten himself in an interview later stated that he had to fight tooth and nail with the producers (who, understandably, didn’t want him singing his own song). I also find him cute with glasses.
@@flannerymonaghan-morris7461 Just like Donny Osmone (peacock) USA season 1 Masked Singer when he wanted to sing The greatest Showman but the owners of the song wouldn't let him so he recorded him singing the song sent the recording to them without his name attached and the owners loved it that they let him sing it as peacock since they didn't know it was Donny
@@sassbrat I was also surprised to find out that it was Donny because his voice was so low (his speaking voice is pretty deep normally compared to his singing voice). I think he may be a baritone with a high tenor range.
@@Alucard45000 Yeah even the version he did was pretty recently so he sounded exactly like, himself!. Who else has that accent? The only reason for not guessing it would be that I though Morten would never ever go on such a show but his explanation does make sense plus he may have a little bit of a complex about his looks as they have always been what interviewers asked about and wanted to be judged just on his voice for once.
There's a version that's very similar that he did on a-Ha's channel called "a-ha - Take On Me (Live From MTV Unplugged)" if you want another acoustic version of it. Though yeah, I wish I could've seen a longer version of this rendition, as well.
I can not believee that you can not recognize this voice. The most beautiful in the world..It's like not recognizing the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Nobody has a voice like Morten Harket . I love his voice.
As soon as he sang, my dad recognized him and me too. I mean, come on. The long notes.... too obvious. And Look at him, He looks amazing even in the 60's.
Morten's awesome voice is unmistakable, unique ... hard to believe that the jury doesn't recognize it ... without knowing who the Viking is, I knew that this angelic voice could only belong to one person ♥
This falsetto.... This may not have been obvious to them but I freaking know that it's a-ha's Morten! Born in the 90s but am a great fan of 80s music (new wave, synthpop, etc)
I thought it was him until he sang Take on me. That confused me because masked singers don't usually sing their own songs. When he sang Songbird, I just melted. Love his voice!
He's the only one I know that has sang his own songs on the show. I love the song Take on me and I was born in 92 so i dont know too many songs from before that but I know a few.
I can't believe the judges couldn't figure it out just based on his voice. But I agree with others, I think he specifically sang his own song because he thought they may figure it out soon enough, and who would ever sing their own song, I mean that would be to insane a clue may as well say who it is. But he did it! I honestly think these judges were as dumb as a stump. I don't even think it was a question of that song throwing them, I think they were that blatantly dumb. How could none of them know that voice, he's iconic for God's sake.
I knew the minute he opened his mouth. Even his “altered” speaking voice sounds like him. Beautiful. Johnathon Ross should have known. He should have won!

The unplugged take on me is amazing. Glad he could share it with an audience that may not have heard Morten Harket before or would have it in their world. Truly an incredible performer.
Morten..he IS the Songbird...it was lovely! Cannot believe those judges didnt recognize Morten..especially when he sang Take On Me..younger generation knows squat..😂😂🎈
Unbelievable.. I think Morten just got anoyed with the fact his UK concerts have been cancelled!! And that was his silent (loud) answer.. He really put on a show, it was great to listen.. and by the way what a fun show it is, didn’t know about its existence😅😅👌
@@flanplan5903 he is a great guy, and he does not take himself so seriously. Just look how he has responded to his quirks being copied by comedians😀 so I bet that’s it.
Don’t forget, we all know it’s staged. Some singers are easier than others to work out. The moment he sang Songbird it was a done deal. So obviously......it’s Bear Grylls 🙄 x
Morten's voice is so recognizable, I refuse to believe these judges were all absolutely clueless as to who The Viking was, esp after he sang his own song....
That voice is so unique, how can nobody on that panel had a clue of who it was... He even push the enveloppe and sing a A-ha song... and, even then, they can't figure it out...lol
I just sat their memorized when he did Songbird. I didn't see this when it came out, as I'm from the US, so I obviously found this by different suggestions after seeing videos of A-ha. And once he started singing, I was like oh this is already over. Not only is his voice so recognizable, but that song was just the perfect song for his voice. And then to see them absolutely clueless, I was like oh come on people, you can't possibly be that dumb. It's not like he left the music industry 20 years ago, he kept singing both with the band and without. And I realize that he did his bands own song to "throw them", hate to tell you Morten, they didn't need to be thrown they were already lost. But honestly after signing that and they still didn't know, I was like ok all of these judges should be severely embarrassed. I agree with another poster here too. I want him to release a cover of Songbird on Spotify or something, so I can go purchase it and listen to it any time I need to feel good, that was just so heartfelt.

When I was young I literally listened to this song a thousand times. He sang it so perfectly he moved the whole crowd and the judges. Absolute perfection ❤❤❤
No one has a voice like his so I got this in the first stanza. And howled when he had the brass balls to do the MTV Unplugged version of "Take On Me" (as heard in 'Deadpool 2' even!), and yet they still didn't get him?! Eeediots. I think the judges were all hung up on the verbal clues yet ignored his singing voice -- and come on, the biggest clue was the viking outfit on a Norwegian, which I suppose is an unusual thing since most of the singers on shows like this are dressed like dragons, blobs, mushrooms, and other things that are clearly not references to the actual person.
What a thick bunch! Morten even said the name of his band in the telephone conversation. The first note he sang was obvious. Morten has a very distinct and recognizable voice. I love A-ha still. Morten looks fantastic, he has aged incredibly well.
”can I just just say: ”you look fantastic!”?” - she was ”in love" with what you're done, Morten, on this show! she was the only judge who really loved what you've done there.
I hope you understand the foolinesh of saying the answer after the answer was said. it's like the jerk that always have the answer after the answer is discovered.
He sang the very same version of "Take on me" in 2017 for MTV unplugged, it is on A-ha's channel, it is everywhere, I can't believe none of them have listened it before.
Man literally has such a great and recognizable Voice even if you didn’t grow up on their Music you should still know it is Morten Harket. 18:57 Dead giveaway it is Morten Harket that’s HIS SONG
Chiming in. It would be awesome if all the first and second place performers from around the world recorded their versions for one massive compilation - for charity or just for all of us to enjoy. Sometimes their version is even better.
