Dude, the Morpheus scene may be the most badass action sequence in history of cinema. The way he is absolutely stoic, in contrast with Trinity's hurry, like he's got everything under control. Then the music comes, and he doesn't waste any movements to defeat the villains without breaking a sweat. And THEN, the greatest freaking chase sequence continues. In 2003. F*cking Matrix.
I came here for the Ducati 996, stayed for the chase sequence. It becomes even more impressive when you know that Carrie-Anne Moss actually did all that high speed swerving herself for the camera, two-up with no helmet.
I know it was actually pretty cool, that is probably the fastest transformation into agents I've seen. Most of the others seems to take up to like a few seconds
0:38 is criminally underappreciated. The sword popping the rear light off, and the debris of the car still in the air on the wide shot that follows. Morpheus frozen on his knee. And then his deadass expression when he lights the gas tank up. Got damn.
@Lee Brown No, I don't need to, I do it because I can and I have an opinion too. Should I ask you for permission to give mi opinion of things? Is he going to fall into a depression just because I LOLed at his comment or what?
My problem with that scene is that you can absolutely tell by the cut of those scenes that that car would never flip. I am not talking about sword flipping cars not being a believable thing. I dont care about that. What I am talking about is that you can tell the car wouldnt flip. It simply stopped between those takes and then you inexplicably see it in the next thing rolling over. The effect had to be more pronounced in the previous shot. God I hope I make sense lol. It is a badass scene but I was let down by the fact that it did not look like the sword (or anything other for that matter) made the car flip.
@@elwingy I agree, that, and the damage done by the sword is not that visible in the second shot either. Another thing is that when morpheus stabs the katana into the container, its waaaay higher than what is shown in the next shot :D
For me, that is one of the best scenes ever produced in history, the music score, the intensity of the chase and that gorgeous Ducati sound, the three mix in a blood pumping delicacy of a shot. Wonderful.
They didn't, it was a section of newly built highway that they paid for the rights to use before normal traffic was allowed to use it. Happens in many, many films. Italian Job, (1969) for example
@@MrMolova no it wasn’t lol, they literally built a mock up freeway on the old Alameda NAS runway to film the chase stuff, and several scenes briefly on ca hwy 24/ I-980 maze, which has been there for quite some time.
Absolutely phenomenal & very deep scene. Trinity is essentially "speed running" through the program with absolute perfect timing on every single maneuver & with it bugging the system (cops coming in the highway from wrong directions, ETC). Earlier in the film Morpheus is said to have warned her that going in the 'highway' was "suicide" because of the monumental task he knew it would endure to get out of it. This is essentially a hacker trying to get their way out of an information highway against firewall programs that have Administrative access to every single file any any given time. Super wild.
You gotta love how this movie reframes Morpheus' sacrifice in the first movie not as a noble dive into the jaws of death, but as his standard operating procedure. Dude's just so used to fighting impossible odds and winning, he's not sending the others away to escape, he's getting them out of the way so he can kick ass and link up later. Dude's so used to protecting his allies and pulling off impossible escapes it's just how he works. Him and Neo literally think and operate the same way, Morpheus knew Neo was the Chosen One not because of faith, but because he saw himself in Neo and knew those traits were what you needed to become the Chosen One.
@@emiliodelbozo3155 MCU movies are made for little children. Movie goers these days have the minds of little children, so it keep the money flowing into the corpo pockets.
Such a small and mostly pointless thing to point out but. I'm so glad that 1:23 moment happened. The smile the Keymaker makes just gives me like a split second of wholesomeness in all this badassery. He helped them, He feels useful, Good for him.
I remember seeing this in the cinema opening night - when she pulled out into oncoming traffic at 2:44 I nearly put puncture marks in the arm rest I was gripping it that tight, amazing scene in a movie full of them
I just started to learn how to ride a motorcycle recently and have already fallen off and injured myself. I used to watch this scene not really understanding just how crazy and exceptional the chase scene, now it literally makes my heart race watching it. Every single dodge she does of traffic is freaking me the F out. Absolutely brilliant scene now I understand how epic it really is.
I feel the same way. I started riding in 2009, and I havent really sat and watched this scene again until maybe a few weeks ago. I broke into a sweat just watching it. I respect this scene even more because of my riding experience now. 😄
And the really funny thing is that, as they were filming it, the bike was never going faster than 15-20 mph. It was all camera tricks to create the illusion that she was going fast.
Even if Reloadad and Revolutions cant keep the quality of the first one, scenes like this are so damn good that modern films still fail to produce something similar. Only thing that bothers me all the time, because its so damn obvious, is when Morpheus puts his sword into the side of the truck and a second later the sword sticks way lower than he could ever reach from the top by some matrix magic. And knowing how good some of the scenes in the movies are, my mind will now pretend that the new Matrix movie does not exist as it does not even come close to the quality of any of the three.
@@anonymousl5150 some say its good, some say its bad. At least you have to know the First three movies to get something out of it. They now use close up shots and many cuts so you dont feel the missing choreography which made fighting feel so special, as neither the Guy from John Wick nor the one from the original films were part of this one. Lana wachowski instead used most of the Team she used in one of her series, which is not par with the old Team. Because of things like this the movie ist missing what made Matrix stand out, it feels more Like a generic action movie. Sorry for Wall of Text, and ofc thats just my opinion.
@@CritteRino it’s very very very bad. The special effects are actually better in the original trilogy and the story is lame. They should have carried on the series instead of turn it into some Wes cravens new nightmare kind of film.
I say bring on John Wick 4 so Laurence Fishburne and Keanu can kick some ass together again. I'll always have very fond memories of the original Matrix trilogy. I don't think I'll even bother watching Resurrections, not even curious about it.
not only that, they used over 300 cars and a dozen stuntdoubles. The cinematographer did a fantastic job in the filming of this scene. What's even more outstanding is the editor who managed to cram this amazing sequence together with 7 weeks of film recorded.
