Lana Wachowski is back behind the camera for The Matrix Resurrections, the fourth film in the series that brings back both Neo (Keanu Reeves) and Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss).
In The Matrix Resurrections, return to a world of two realities: one, everyday life; the other, what lies behind it. To find out if his reality is a physical or mental construct, to truly know himself, Mr. Anderson will have to choose to follow the white rabbit once more. And if Thomas…Neo…has learned anything, it’s that choice, while an illusion, is still the only way out of-or into- the Matrix.
We have two clips from the sequel, both of which feel like heavy spoilers. In the first, Candyman's Yahya Abdul-Mateen II replaces Laurence Fishburne as Morpheus and once again offers Neo a pill. This time, only the red one.
As for the second bit of footage, it appears to be a pretty huge spoiler that was teased in the first trailer. Neo, seemingly riding on a train, walks into a room that's wallpapered with a projection of the first Matrix film.
The Matrix Resurrections will release December 22, both in theaters and on HBO Max.

Welp guess what. The movie was badder than fuck lol it's an over the top date movie, I enjoyed it. Biased as a fan since the originals, sure, but they gave it a great effort especially with a short shooting schedule and rona season trying to mess everything up.

There was such a calm confidence in the working out of things in Morpheus' character. He was all about his faith in events at play. It really pulled you into his belief when Neo was unsure, because you what's felt he was trying to show Neo his greater self. But young Morpheus 2021 doesn't send out vibes of a calm confidence in the perception he's trying to draw Neo to, he seems as he says almost "losing his shit"

I find it also interesting that in this scene he doesn't offer him a choice. In the original Morpheus let him choose between the red and the blue pill. But in this case Neo is only presented with the red pill.

Morpheus is an AI construct that started off as an agent and now helps the red pills. You can see him being constructed by the machines in one of the teasers. I think there is an internal war in the machine world, some want to free humanity, some want them back.

Scene is weird... looks like a spoof, and then left me thinking, maybe this movie is going to be crazy, as it needs to be in order to put something new on the table. We can't pretend to get a rehearsal of the first movie, but we can wish for MR to be a different beast, with new visuals and out-of-the-box story. Hope that whatever they're doing, has a purpose and an Idea behind it, and I hope the idea is great

Fishburne has just shown me a master class of acting in a role that he performed over 15 years ago… Fishburne vocal tone/pitch/delivery as the original Morpheus was really good and it showed me how he really pulled me into his character. I’m still very very curious about this movie. Edit: Lol people commenting below thinking that I think it’s Fishburne in this clip. I’m saying that watching this clip made me think back to how I maybe under appreciated Fishburne’s original portrayal of Morpheus… The voice, the body language, the subtleties of his entire character was absolutely incredible.

@SGN Supposedly by articles, Warner was gonna do it without any of the Wachowskis, their parents died and only one of them returned as some kind of stress relief, which seems understandable. But i highly doubt anything of what Lana said, specially after there was this "take the red pill back from the right wing" thing and i dropped any credibility, it's all a shitshow and seems more like Lana didn't care at all about the movie and the future of the IP, just a middle finger to both Warner and fans.

Everybody talking about Keanu's goofy acting which I agree is weird but I also don't like Morpheus that much in this scene. I hope I'm proven wrong in the film but I don't think he will be nearly as good as Laurence F, which is a shame because Morpheus is such an important character. EDIT: Didn't know it's not actually Morpheus. But clearly this guy is meant to be a Morpheus replacement, and so far I'm not really feeling the vibe. EDIT TO THE EDIT: Wait, he is Morpheus. I just read a bunch of articles saying he's Morpheus. Y'all are WRONG. ;)

If the first three Matrix movies taught us anything it's that this wasn't Neo's first time becoming The One. There were at least 7 iterations before Mr. Anderson/Neo and they all had the same ending, Zion fell and the damage done to the Matrix repaired and reset and Neo was put back in as Mr. Anderson. (Morpheus states when the Matrix was built there was a man born inside with abilities unlike anyone). Neo broke the cycle in a different way in Matrix Resurrections, but with alternate results. Zion didn't fall, and he was reinserted into the Matrix, albeit with a heightened sense of his awareness. (This would make sense as to why he's been seeing a psychologist and taking mood stabilizing pills, to keep his mind from becoming aware). The Matrix is trying to avert Neo being freed over and over again.

The first 3 films was the 6th version of the Matrix, at the end of Resurrections Sati creates a slightly new version of the Matrix (where the colour goes from green to blue). Matrix Resurrections is the 7th version of the Matrix.

But I will say that I am basing off the number of Matrix’s from Neo’s interaction with The Architect (the creator of the Matrix) and in the second film where he explains that they are in the 6th version. On a side note throughout the first two films we get bits and pieces of information regarding why the previous versions were unsuccessful.

I’m gonna defend Yahya here and say that I enjoy that Morpheus (or not really Morpheus) is a little more unpolished here and has more of a sense of humor. I anticipate the story will have an in context reason for it but even here I think it helps ramp up the tension of the scene. Like there’s a situation and he’s still in control but a more grounded kind of control, not completely stoic because they’re running out of time. And it doesn’t seem forced, or at least not to me.

Damn man. I love Keanu, I really do. In certain roles he excels, but in most he’s pretty bad. This scene is a prime example. He’s like the most drug addled bad actor there is without touching any drugs. This clip felt like him jumping in and out of his Ted character with a smattering of confusion.

Totally agree. Of course, Keanu must be different from Neo here. The context implies that. But I hope the amount of exaggeration here is not just to make "Neo's return" more convincing. A kind of Christopher Reeve's Superman/Clark Kent that went all the way down. It should be noted that Abdul-Mateen is also horrible in this scene. This leaves us in a serious situation: either this scene is just "an experiment" or this movie will be REALLY disappointing!

Imagine if Zach showed up and said "I´ll take it". And just eats the red pill before anyone could do anything. Literally that would make the scene better and more relating to the tone we´re watching. If this is the tone of the film it will suck. Anti-climatic as fuck, seems like Morpheus is giving Neo a supository instead of the red pill to get him out of the matrix.

I think part of the deal he made with the machines was to be brought back into the matrix and to forget everything especially Trinity's death. But he's simply too powerful and aware and everything is coming back

I don’t think any deal was made, I think the machines took the liberty of jacking both of them back in with extra measures in place to keep them subdued and plugged in. I think Neo’s spiritual consciousness is what keeps coming back over and over again to save the human race, but what happened in revolution was something new and now that the machines have “the one” they are doing everything they can to keep him under their control. They’ve been conditioning him for years now, so of course he’s going to have a much greater negative response to the people trying to set him free.

@@myteatime2836 the machines could have literally pulled an I Am Mother, and birth new humans to be better than their ancestors, free of hate, free of religion, free of wars, free of judgement, and could have lived among them in peace. Together. While the machines could pull a Horizon Zero Dawn and find a way to clean the atmosphere and radiation while teaching the new humans underground. Seriously. They could have used the matrix to raise the new generation much better and really live in peace together.

At the end of Revolutions, when we see the Matrix rebooting, then the scene with the Oracle, Sati, Seraph and the Architect in the park, the green tint is absent. So it has something to do with the effects of the system-reboot after the trilogy. I'm actually astounded that so many years later, the creators of Resurrections _even bothered to remember_ that and respect it. Crazy film-making.

acting in knock knock was great, it was funny and dramatic like in this scene. its also probably hard for actors themselves to keep a straight face during these kinds of scenes and stay in the character. Good example of Hollywood doing minimum to knowingly get fat check during pandemic. This was planned ride Matrix name into 4th movie to get a check because makes no sense to pump money into movie during pandemic that's why you can tell Keenu knew this and did not want to do sequel and was just going through the motions. Same directors weren't involved so you can attribute beyond poor action and music score to missing directors. The script was nothing short of a disaster. Not even good DVD movie

we still dont know if this is somebody for real ... or juts another simulation to test neo ;) hence the question ... what if they change something ... how will neo react ... well they changed morpheus - also in 1 clip there is visible that machines are fighting each other ... so i gues ... some machines sees neo as prophet? savior? and are fighting for him while the other machines just see him as a tool they play with ... just 1 of the theories :)

I don't care what anyone says, this movie is legendary in it's own right. It's a completely different tone and style from the first 3, but I think that's what was needed more than anything. Yahya did an amazing job at playing Modal Morpheus. This scene is also one of the best scenes imo, their acting is excellent.

I'm not gonna say I didn't notice it but tbf, young Anderson did act similar when confronted with all of this and Old Anderson would obviously be a little more dependant on the system and feeble. I'm hoping that despite it looking a little parodyish pinpointed like this, it will make more sense and feel more natural when actually watching the entire movie. As long as it isn't as bad as Bill and Ted 3. If it is, I 2ill have completely given up on trusting any new release instead of the majority distrust I currently have.

For those who are quick to ridicule this scene for it’s apparent goofiness have already fallen victim to the clever marketing of this film. Everything they’ve shown you has been mis-direction. The marketing has been designed to blind you from the truth. Therefore I’d reframe from making any judgment of the quality of any scene or moment until you’ve seen the finished product. “Unfortunately no one can be told what the matrix is, you have to see it for yourself.”

I am sure it won't end up like Promotheus. Lana doesn't seem like the kind of person to make a bad movie unless it was on purpose. Plus Jame McTeigue is the second director(Credited as producer for marketing reasons, I think, but he stated in an interview he was directing too) and I know he's a great director and I doubt he would let Lana make Matrix 4 bad for no reason.

"This Can't Be Real" is exactly what I thought upon watching this. I thought it was an SNL parody of some sort. "This (femininely waves arm and points finger) this can't be reAaAalllLlLlll..." Looks like they jumped the shark on this one. I don't go to funerals because I prefer to remember people as they were so I certainly won't be watching this funeral.
