Welcome to the Heavy Spoilers show, I'm your host Paul aka The One...out of Ten and this video we're breaking down The Matrix Resurrections. The movie has a lot to unpack from it's plot and ending and throughout this we'll explaining it to you like you're five and going through the whole film.
Full spoilers ahead so if you haven't had a chance to check it out then you need to unplug. Click the thumbs up button if you enjoy the video and don't forget to subscribe for videos that will take you tumbling down the rabbit hole every day.
With that out the way, thanks for clicking this, now let's get into The Matrix Ressurections.
Ok so the Matrix Resurrections comes from the Force Awakens school of reboots in that it pretty much takes some major plot elements from the original movie and somehwat remakes them whilst also providing a sequel.
We pick up sixty years after the events of the third movie and learn that both Trinity and Neo were brought back to life using extensive technology to resurrect the pair.
Turns out that after the events of Revolutions that though there were decades of Peace, the machines realised that the humans were not creating enough energy to sustain them. If you cast your mind back to the first movie it was explained that the machines originally were powered by the solar energy but after humans destroyed the atmosphere they instead turned us into a power source. The machines broke out into a civil war and the Analyst played by Neil Patrick Harris realised that Neo and Trinity were needed to keep humanity at bay and thus they created a new iteration with them at the centre of it.
In order to convince Neo that his memories are fake, he was told that he's actually a game designer that created the Matrix trilogy of games for Warner Brothers. In this new reality he's guided by his mysterious Agent who wants him to make a new Matrix and also the Analyst who supplies him with blue pills to keep his powers at bay.
Everything about the Analyst is supposed to subdue him and in his room there are black cats, models of the human brain and butterflies which are of course a symbol for rebirth. His glasses and clothing are also blue hinting towards how he's meant to be put in place to subdue Neo.

Easily the best of the four outtings for the Matrix franchise. Finally a solid nod to non-normative casting and characters and a step back from the typical 'white savior' nonsense of the past. I would rate it 10 out of 10 but I find rating systems to express inherent racist so I will not.

Honestly I liked the concept of the analyst and how he operated his matrix vs the architect, the background story of the machines and even the inclusion of the new smith, but they all felt super half baked, like a whole slew of plot points that should’ve taken place over multiple stories instead of just being resolved instantly
@DarthWood6
@DarthWood6 2 года назад
Agreed - should've made 2 or 3 movies with more depth instead of 1 with a bunch of stuff all at once. Like intro the new Smith and keep the "bullet time" scene, add more Bugs origin story, explain Zion aftermath from Revolutions and then bring Smith back for the main villain in the 2nd or 3rd like the OG trilogy. The analyst is so similar to the architect but the architect was never the main baddie in the OG, it was Smith. More Smith please! "ME ME, ME! ME TOO!"

Did you honestly expect a good movie? After the first Matrix the Wachowskis literally went insane. They are two broken men. How could any WB exec think this would be good after Jupiter Ascending? They need serious mental help, not new movies to work on.
@KelticTim

@@DarthWood6 nah, they should’ve had a different writer and director all together. At most, they should’ve gotten an outline from The Wachowskis and used that. This movie is a love letter to Wokeness. Please, Trinity can fly and saves the day, and Neo is just along for the ride? Gtfoh. So dumb. And like every Wokified movie, there’s a punkish chick with a half shaved head with bright colors. There was so much promise here, but what we got was total garbage.

@@chazaq2010 from a lore perspective he was interesting since he was existing from the previous matrix but where they messed up was not using the original actor enough; and they didn’t develop his character enough, he really just shows up at the end, and plus there’s no real need for smith agents anymore because of the “bots” which just felt like another lazy half baked idea. I won’t argue the original smith was better since it was the matrix itself coming at neo trying to stop him. Regular civilians who get turned into agents doesn’t really make any sense because it ignores the fact that if they’re severely injured or killed, then the matrix has to compensate to simulate the fact that this person just died because the matrix/analyst took control of them

I think a lot of people misunderstand this movie. It's supposed to be bad because the studio wouldve made it anyways. They made a film in which roles and the actors who portray them is almost meaningless, this is foreshadowing how the franchise is likely to recast all the roles in future installments. Just wait to see how WB (a studio famous for blunders) fucks this up.

1. The trilogy had some AMAZING music. Part 4 had no memorable music, and much of it was silent. 2. They did the Merovingian DIRTY, which just pissed me off. There was literally no point to have him in this film. 3. The dialogue in the trilogy was off the charts...thought provoking and interesting, and still has me reciting quotes from characters. Part 4? Nothing even remotely comes close. 4. Of course, no original Smith or Morpheus was blasphemy, and made me seriously miss them while watching part 4. I was gonna keep going but I got distracted, but these are some of my personal reasons why I didn’t like this movie, and why the first 3 were 10/10 movies.

Actually, it was quite the opposite. The movie was a big "fuck you" to three main groups: The first is to people who promise or profess to be allied with freedom and truth but in reality are deceitful authoritarians - the Analyst is the most obvious manifestation of this, but the whole use of the redpill/bluepill imagery was also a big middle finger to the so-called "redpill" movement - specifically, the very strong and obvious message in there that redpilling does not mean indoctrinating someone with your own inbred, tired-out political ideology, but rather actually encouraging people to open themselves up to the human condition, which may mean (in fact, will hopefully mean) that other person embracing other thoughts and feelings than you as they disentangle their worldview from toxic hivemind ideologies. The second is to the pseudointellectual pop culture cabal of RU-vidrati and other online "pop culture journalists" who claim to endorse originality and creativity, but ultimately succumb to their own obsessions with nostalgia and past glories and become lost in their own contradictions, demanding both fidelity to source material and originality, demanding creative independence while expecting the end product to be tailored to their expectations, seeing absurd meanings in superficial pop culture works and deriving ridiculous fan theories and believing themselves to be intellectually superior as a result. And the third is simply to Warner Bros. themselves - this film was basically just one big career suicide note by Lana, deliberately so, about how fucked off she is about how Warner (and probably other studios too) have enslaved people to franchise addiction and badgered her and her sister to the point of madness to make a new Matrix movie under threat of having someone else do it. If you know the production background, the parallels are evident.
@mediummusic6817
@mediummusic6817 2 года назад
@@jamyskis thats an interesting interpretation, I got none of that from this movie apart from the warner bros bit. This was very clearly taking a shot at the fuckwits walking around following rules without having done any meaningful research thinking that "science" is a thing you can trust, it isn't, it is a mode of thought and that's it. Hence the evident use of cult like behaviors to enforce trust and compliance. AND the movie was showing how the machines took reality and made it into a game, further reinforcing how crazy you must be to think that happens in our world. A whole cinema of people idolizing neo and trinity but when it comes down to it they're nothing but background noise just doing what they're "programmed" by authority to do.. and they know it, I'm one of them, I put on my mask and go do my job like a good little dog.
@jamyskis
@jamyskis 2 года назад
@@mediummusic6817 This is pretty much it. A lot of people give up one cult just to follow another ("sheeple" as the Analyst put it). They seek refuge in ideology and nostalgia to avoid having to innovate, critique and think independently. They see phenomena such as social media as an ersatz solution for critical thought, and selectively believe what they want to believe because every bullshit brainfart is represented on there. A lot of so-called "redpill" movements don't give you a choice - they just put the proverbial red pill in front of people and pressure them into uncritically swallowing it, either by playing into their worst fears by laying out nightmarish scenarios in front of them, or by humiliating them into submission. Fearful people make for productive drones. "Free your mind by following us without question" is basically their motto. The absurd irony should be apparent. "Avoid MSM." "Follow the science." "Jews/Soros manipulated it." There's always bullshit, and there's always the scapegoat to enable the cult to transition to the next bullshit when the last bullshit is exposed for what it is. To be fair, Resurrections doesn't go too deeply into the actual symbolism of the blue pill/red pill imagery. It just exists to skewer those who read far too much into it and those who wilfully twist and distort the basic simple meaning of the analogy: truth is absolute. Take whatever part of that truth is important to you, shape your life around it, and draw your own conclusions from it. You only start becoming the villain of the piece when you start wilfully misrepresenting that truth to others.

Wasn’t as bad as people made it out to be. I agree with the lack of innovation as you mentioned. I think that’s because of the lack of the other warchowski sisters involvement. The cinematography looked like a bland miniseries version on a streaming service and tbh it could’ve served better as one. That way would’ve gotten a little more storyline as to how things have changed over the decades and probably wouldn’t have needed as much flashback scenes. Even the fight choreography was on par with how tv series fights are choreographed. So I guess we can say it was a letdown as a full feature length film. I would’ve been a little more satisfied with more storyline with dumbed down quality. This new version could almost have the same problem as the alien franchise where after the original trilogy they tried to keep the franchise alive with sub par sequels in which a couple of them were decent. Matrix 4 was kind of not a miss for me but I could be for someone else. Overall I liked it and will watch it again to catch the details I missed the first time.
@lightchaser2k6
@lightchaser2k6 2 года назад
Actually a part of Neo and Trinity's dialogue at the coffeehouse kinda related the pain of the directors' views. This installment needs repeated views to catch that but like most fans/viewers mentioned, they focused too much on the flashbacks to tell what's coming next. That somewhat makes the movie displeasing/less enjoyable but also a weird sense of humor (mostly from Smith's scenes with Neo) Moving forward, I still look forward to another installment of this Matrix movie but hopefully, they can really tie it down this round and not let it be a tragedy like what Star Wars 1~9 had.
@MrJustwatchin9

@@lightchaser2k6 yeah I sensed a lot of personal feelings of guilt frustration and void throughout the film. But moving forward I think the film should be about neo neo and Trinity freeing more people subduing the matrix and io taking back control over the earth for humanity and finding a way to coexist with the machines. And if it doesn’t go in that direction then we know at some point that they will do a series for streaming and close out the saga that way. But at some point the Machine era needs to end

Everyone was saying Neo is not really fighting. But my whole thing is why would he fight? He demonstrated he could stop bullets in the first film. Why is he punching and kicking still? In fact on this movie while fighting "agent Smith" Neo starts countering Smith's attacks with his force push. It just shows how useless it is to throw a punch, shoot a bullet, or launch a missile at Neo because he can just redirect or stop it. What I am saying is to all the people who miss the Kung Fu stuff is that it is literally obsolete for him to do that. I think they somewhat show that in this movie.

Trinity was already top teir empowered female character.. up there with ripley and sarah connor. instead she takes zero convincing to literally leave her husband and kids. now she is a disloyal woman. and a feminist trope/joke. i wish lana wachowski told warner bros to just do it themselves. it would have been shit but it would have been better shit than this.

I viewed the movie as a meta narrative about story telling. The loop of nostalgia, longing for what you had in the past. The Analyst has Neo, Trinity and thus everyone trapped in this loop, of trying to get back to how things were in the original. Which is an impossible goal. When Neo is awakened, he keeps commenting on all the ways things have changed. When they learn to accept the changes others have made to the narrative Neo & Trinity are able to truly free themselves, and start writing a new reality, where the sky is painted with rainbows, or whatever else they can imagine. Anybody who says this movie is retreading the first one is not technically wrong, but is also missing the point entirely.

I think the issue with this film is that when the matrix first came out, it wasn't really anything like it to exist, and it created the blue print to hero action movies and cinema, now that we have alot of marvel movies , super hero movies, we have became desensitized to unique visuals, the matrix had a unique plot to begin with back in the day but in age where other super hero movies have surpassed it. The matrixs time had came and went, this 4th one,, it didn't bring anything new to a genre that it was innovating in, when movies like DR STRANGE are more intriguing know it's time to rest this franchise, or let fans get involved

Neo can't fly without Trinity together: there is no ONE, the powersource is now an interdependence/integration beyond any one individual. Oh yeah, and "CatTrick" is just a play on Hat Trick--winning 3 times in sports, so the movie-marketing-team is excitedly discussing the pablum of cat videos packaged as a set of mindless retreads, teasing the audience about their nostalgia for the Matrix Trilogy: to them Cattrix would be a sort of grand remaster-directorscut-boxset from hell.

Yeah you didn't get the movie at all. It wasn't "paying homage to the past." It was showing the extent to which the Machines went to neutralize him. The new iteration of the matrix is the only way you could bring Neo and Trinity back into the plot without it being dumb. You can't conceal the events of the original trilogy and expect Neo and Trinity to just forget about the past. No, it makes much more sense to flaunt the past, mock it and to basically gaslight Neo continuously. At the same time, they kept Trinity close enough to him so that, subconsciously, it gave him sufficient comfort and satisfaction to keep him docile. If she was further away, he wouldn't be happy enough to make it work (would quickly fight to escape) and, conversely, if they were too close, they wouldn't be able to be controlled. And, of course, the whole thing is managed directly by the new architect (Analyst) rather than by a detached, overly robotic one.

@@StevenJScharf People have such a superficial misunderstanding of this movie. Some are complaining that the alliance with the machines is arbitrary and ridiculous. That just shows that they never understood the original plot and didn't watch the Animatrix, which gave the historical context. The Machines did not want war with humans. It was the humans that continuously betrayed the Machines and broke peace agreements. The matrix was the product of the Machines losing all hope in humanity. Neo's actions and sacrifice in the original trilogy gave machines hope again that there could be peace with humans. In this way, Neo has become, not only the savior of humans, but of machines as well. It also adds a level of depth to the machines that was missing in the original trilogy because of the war (machines depicted as cold, killbots). It also moves the storyline forward and the resolution is clearer now - peace between humans and the machines is possible. The whole movie is saturated with depth. It's too bad people are missing it.

With spiderman I felt like it was literally all things I've seen before with an ending that serves as another reboot of the character. With Matrix Resurrection I feel like questions were actually answered and I got to see Neo and Trinity to get a sort of happy ending. So, I enjoyed Matrix way more than Spiderman ultimately.

I really enjoyed it for all kinds of reasons but most specifically the way it literally calls out modern audiences for being fickle, slow and generally miserable beings. They explain the entire current state of mind in real life and honestly looking at some reviews its clear they touched a nerve. It's wink wink nudge nudge and some folks hilariously ironically just can't handle it. They love The Matrix, in more ways than one.

The first Matrix is still one of my favorite movies to this day. The story and even CG still holds up pretty well. I’ve never been super stoked about the 2nd and 3rd ones and rarely go back to watch them. With that said, I was a bit bummed with the Resurrections movie. It definitely felt forced in a lot of places. Although I did enjoy the way they showed the ways the “system” was keeping Neo in line, and NPH as the Analyst was fantastic. Admittedly, I’ve only watched it once, so I’ll sit through it again to see if my opinion changes of the movie, but at this time, I would rate it a 4.5/10 (some fun callbacks, metaphorical imagery, but sadly not groundbreaking like the first one).

True. It felt forced b/c the "sequel to the trilogy" to quote King George turned Agent Smith, WAS forced...it was going to happen no matter what and "reboot" if it had to....so it was done the way it was if you take into context the outside-the-movie politics.

I liked certain meta aspects when fleshing out the story, but they really overplayed the concept of "meta". The action was horrible, rushed and at times felt out of place. This was worse than what The Last Jedi was for Star Wars. Terrible movie.

I 100% agree with what you said about the first half being very strong, but when stuff started to get revealed, it dropped off a bit. I did enjoy it regardless, and I was never a Matrix fanboy, I always thought the movies were ok, and after rewatching the 1st one in prep for this movie, I did really enjoy it more than when I saw it when I was younger. And the sequels I feel were still meh, with iconic moments sprinkled in. It does seem like they want to have a sequel after this one, which I would like to see, because I was interested in what was laid out. 6.5/10 for me.!

Didnt love it that much....story was good in the first half as it felt quite involved but second half became quite like a heist only to get trinity which didnt concluded in a good way although I liked that trinity and Neo got happy ending but the OG ending before this movie was good too.. most disappointing thing was Agent Smith. He wasnt required that much in the story and I didnt understood what he wanted to do and major thing was why to recast him if Hugo Weaving didnt returned..he still couldn't have made any difference if he wasnt in the movie..

First impression: It was like getting together with an old college roommate after 20-years. You feel that buzz of excitement when you first see each other. Then, you reminisce, share some laughs, and perhaps some tears over those who have passed. You might even party together that night. However, the chemistry is off, and though it was nice for a night, you realize this will likely be the last time you see each other. I guess they could do a spinoff with Bugs and her crew, but why? Let this be the epitaph.

I agree with your review. It was good but.... It feels like it was rushed and tried to put too much into it without diving into more detail about important characters. Merv and Agent Smith are good examples of this. Smith was used as a deus ex machina in the final cafe scene and then just disappears?! It could have been better and I hope they do not make any sequels if they are all going to be rushed like this. I hate to say it but it was a polished turd.

Watched it, and it was meh at it's best points. Felt like the first half was intended to de-redpill folks with implications of delusion but then of course, the matrix is real, so redpilling is the only real choice left. 3 out of 10, mostly for the few bits of subtle fan service (most was overblown)

the issue is they didn't bring back Hugo Weaving or Laurence Fishburne to reprise they're roles as Morpheus and agent smith thus missing out their acting nuances.

honestly the casting is the most underwhelming part of this movie for me. new Smith was such a terrible recast imo. Zero screen presence, it’s not a menacing or interesting performance at all. if they couldn’t get/didn’t want Weaving, Ralph Fiennes seemed like a no brainer for this role. I wasn’t able to take Neil Patrick Harris serious at all either.

The theatre at the beginning had a neon sign on the roof that said “Sabor a Mierda” in Spanish which translates to “taste of shit” literally. Probably a nod to modern cinema leaving you with a shitty taste in your mouth from all the shlock that gets produced.
