Just today in the news: two guys from Vietnam had to be rescued at 3500 in snowy conditions without air lifting capabilities. They were stuck, had inappropriate gear (not even climbing boots) and were pretty close to freezing to death.
I’m mostly a hiker than a rock climber and I can definitely say that mountain looks extremely spicy! Congrats on making it that far. I recently had to turn around at Mt Whitney due to AMS and man that was a tough call. We just keep on hiking, keep on climbing. Big big shoutout to your insane level of cinematography and story telling. You deliver better quality for every new video. It’s insane! Congrats to both of you.
Absolute masterpiece, you must feel so proud not just for climbing the Matterhorn but to document it so perfectly. Your best video so far in my opinion! Watching from my hotel in Chamonix and wishing Victoria a speedy recovery from her fall
Responsible and commendable choice. I also bailed my first attempt about 600ft from the summit. It will always be there if you decide to do it again with everything you learned. Such an amazing video and storytelling. You guys rock!!
Wow, the Matterhorn is no joke, and an absolutely epic adventure. Too bad about the summit, but that's just part of being in the mountains, it's your wisdom and humility that keeps you safe, and I appreciate you talking about your perspective on summiting. But the production and editing on this video was insane, so well done and loved the storytelling, I really enjoy the documentary style.
So beautiful! Color was unreal too, gotta get your workflow! I kept thinking how scary that climb looked and then remembered you were also filming the whole thing. Well done, thanks for sharing the adventure! Well told 👌🏻
You know better than anybody that filming the thing is way different than just doing the thing. 😅 Always appreciate you checking out the videos. Happy to have a remote color session whenever you want! 🤘🏼
The production quality of this video is truly top tier! Color grading, music, voice overs etc its just so incredible haha Plus a great story! Thanks for what you guys do!
Wow yall are incredible. The videos, the story telling. The shots in this are mind blowing. Extremely impressed and gets my super hyped and inspired every time a new video comes out
Wow...stunning videography and story telling! Your videos haven't been showing up in my feed lately so now I turned on "notifications" for them and have several to catch up on. While I'm not a rock-climber, I adore hiking and backpacking, and I appreciate you taking us all along for the adventures you do. Much appreciated!
@@codyandvictoria Definitely worth the wait! There's obviously A LOT that goes into them and it's crucial to pace yourselves so, hopefully, you're also continuing to enjoy the process and not burnout.
Great video and good decision to turn around and not risk anything! This year I successfully climbed the Matterhorn on July 30th, but I also saw some dangerous things and especially people risking everything. There have been so many deaths this year on the Matterhorn...
Sounds like a successful climb to me. You may not have reached the top but you had an epic day on the mountain and safely returned. Those views are out of this world. I would have shit my pants just looking at the Matterhorn knowing I’m gonna climb it. Gorgeous mountain but intimidating at the same time.
This video is just insane, like everything, the story, the filmmaking. I felt like more than in a movie, keep going. I'm really interested in your filmmaking especially the color grading, how do you grade colors, looks awesome:)
Thanks Jason! Much respect. We’re definitely hoping to make more films like this so stay tuned. As for color - I tried out dehancer on this one with a custom lut on the back end. Took some tweaking but love it so far. Got a coupon in the description if you want to give it a try. More videos soon!
You guys are awesome Never change Thank you again for the information on Matthes crest that was a gnarly adventure and a huge hike, but totally worth it 😎
I've been to Zermatt, but never on the Matterhorn. Congrats on making a good choice. The mountain will always be there and Zermatt is a stinkin' cute town.
Great video!! A little bummed I knew the ending so early on in the video. We’ve all been in the spot where you call it to be better safe than sorry. We are all here for the journey not the result. This video more than others you’ve posted had a lot of explaining the result rather than enjoying the journey. Cheers and keep it up!!! 🎉
@@codyandvictoria Sorry if I came off a little critical. I absolutely love your guys videos and this one was no different. Those videos are super hard to film and edit. Keep at it and hope you get more sponsors. I’m big into the outdoors hiking, and MTB and still haven’t found a great bag that can accomplish both all while carrying camera gear. Maybe that’s another video idea. Keep it at! 🔥
Another great video. I have climbing friends that live there and can see The Matterhorn from their kitchen window I didn’t realize how deadly this mountain was. Glad you two bailed.
been watching since the cody blue days and i think this is your best work. everything was perfect, especially the storytelling. I love how close the talking head shots were, it felt unique and captivating. so awesome
Thank you for this very nice video. You did the right thing by turning back instead of pushing on. The Mosley Plates just before and after the Solvay hut are not easy (IMHO) and further up it gets more scatchy. Maybe you'll be back at another time to finish this adventure? I would recommend to hook up with a Swiss mountain guide and first do some preparation climbs in the region before actually trying Matterhorn. They will also help for altitude acclimatization.
Are you guys even sweating? My back would be soaked after the first dayhike 😅 Love the video. Beautiful colors. Love the retro looks in between. I think it’s better to see more videos of you enjoying life than one last video of you summiting. Good decision 🤙
Awesome cinematography, great story telling but most importantly smart decision making on the climb. It's the best to get these beautiful views as a climber but let's be honest, no summit is worth risking your life. Bailing isn't failing in Alpinism. It's surviving to have many more mountain adventures!
Exactly! Agree wholeheartedly. Getting to the summit isn’t why we climb. We had a fun day, got some epic footage, and made it home safe. No complaints 🙌🏼 thanks for watching :)
Great video guys! 🎉 I thought that climbing Matterhorn was only allowed with a mountain guide. You must have been one of the last one allowed to leave the hut in the early morning?
WOW GUYS!!!✨ This is pure magic! The scenery was breathtaking for sure, but you guys have been extremely skilled capturing it, absolutely beautiful. The storytelling was spot on and I don't know how it's possible but your color grading gets better and better every time, a true Masterpiece!! That said, I really appreciate your decision to not pursue the summit at every cost, that is so wise and should be the common mindset we all adopt out there. And it is really important to normalize this, so thank you as always for being a great example!! And Cody, we really appreciate every bit of time you put in for the editing, it was totally worth it! Again, you really gave me goosebumps with this one, great job and thank you!!!♥
Dude! Your video popped up on my algo! Been forever since I’ve met you at Lake Tahoe! Great to see you’re on this path and obviously still doing great things. Cheers to you and yours! 🎉
Recently had a failed summit of half dome after years of trying to get a permit. Ultimately the weather moving in mixed with the acrophobia I was having was a recipe for disaster haha! I had a VERY short window to even make it up sub dome and just couldn't get it done. Made for an upsetting hike back down to the valley floor. Although a very different mountain than the matterhorn, I feel better learning how you two have dealt with the same type of failure. Definitely made me look at my experience with a different perspective; I'm just notorious for being too hard on myself. Love the content as always, looking forward to the next adventure!
Awesome video but leave the short roping with a hand coil to the guides who know what they are doing. Some sections were sketchy. Especially the following with a bunch of rope on one hand 😬
You really don’t have a choice up there. If you’re building anchors it’s gonna take you two days to climb it. Also keep in mind we’re FILMING too which is why the slack builds up for the follower. Obviously we’re alive so no worries.
Why were you roped up the whole time? Don't see any gear, and definitely not short-roping properly to prevent falls. Just seems as though you're tethered so if one person falls you're BOT pulled down the mountain. . .
There’s some gear that’s worth being roped for. Edit: now that I have some time to respond. We’re obviously filming a video here. A lot of times one handed. No production crew or anything so it’s not always going to look text book. We pick our moments when it’s safe enough to film and when it isn’t. Obviously the follower hanging on to slack isn’t ideal but that’s how it has to be when you don’t have an anchor and you’re getting a shot. We choose our risks wisely.
Because it takes a very long time to finish going up and then an even longer time to go back down. It’s approximately a 12hr day depending on your speed and we were just too slow on the way up with a storm coming in in the evening.
A conga line to the summit . There are many routes to the top of the Matterhorn hornil is the worst imho. If you go in the Alpine try something less crowded preferably being the only team on the mountain. Even better a test piece or big classic route. Another note it's all about the style in which you choose to commit and the type of route you take ridges are great fun usually modarate faces are tough with high exposure traverse or link ups are the best of both.
You guys are absolutley awesome, the quality of your videos is utterly amazing, but what draws me back to you each time is you both as people, I'd watch you in 240p 😉
Very nice! Just climb it with a guide. I did it this year, one of the deadliest in history (over 10 dead people I believe?). It is just not worth the risk. You basically follow the guides anyway, without them is too hard to find the route, so just find a guide and go there. If you know the route, the route is easy. The only scary section was at the slopes near the summit, where you are basically "in the air", like my guide said and a mistake means that you die. You could always pitch up to the top but you will not make it in time, so with a guide you will have another safety.
