The MBTA Gloucester branch spans from Beverly MA to Rockport MA, and offers some of the T’s finest and most unique railroading: such as the operations around drawbridges. Come along and learn how the Gloucester Branch works alongside its marine friends in its namesake city.
Enjoy!

Awesome video. Never thought of the T having Drawbridges. One: check your timestamps. Most say “AM”. Clearly it was afternoon. Thanks again

Oh good catch. When I film with my photography camera it always messes them up and inverses them, like so. I typically dont include timestamps on videos when I use this camera, guess I just forgot! Thanks for catching it 😊

My only issue with the new bridge is that I think there was a major missed opportunity to widen the navigable channel at that location and build a longer draw/lift span to increase the ability for watercraft shorter in height to pass underneath in both directions. But the separate single track spans and increased track speeds are more than enough of an improvement. 💯

Man, now I miss living in Beverly! We were lucky enough to have some of the best train frequency in the system

I thought that north side mostly used GP40-MCs for power?

So I live along the Boston/newburyport rail line. The same line also splits in Beverly whwre one goes to Newburyport and the other towards rockport. My question is are all trains on radio? And what would the 160.??? Frequency be so I’m able to listen to that particular rail line? Any reply would be greatly appropriated
@BostonByRails
@BostonByRails 29 дней назад
Hi there! Indeed, both lines are dispatched by the Boston East Dispatcher. The frequency you can use is 160.320

@@BostonByRails another frequency I’m looking for is there’s a rail like that comes in from New Hampshire I believe it’s Newton junction and I believe it’s a commuter line as well as freight. I’m not sure what 160.??? Frequencies are for which things or where to look them up so I’m not always asking ya thanks man enjoy the weekend

Very enjoyable video. Pay no attention to the trolls/naysayers. One unfortunate consequence of that unfunded "maintenance burden" is audible in pretty much every train in this video -- flat wheels. That "clickety-clack" is happening with the wheel rotation -- there aren't that many joints there (I think most of the rail is welded anyway). Each turn of a flat wheel is a hammer blow to the rail underneath it. In a more perfect world, the MBTA equipment will be maintained well enough to avoid all those flat wheels. Those flat spots cause much more wear and tear on the new bridge than is desirable (as well as the rest of the already suffering public rail infrastructure). Count me as one of those "massholes" who would like to see a significant shift of state transportation funding away from roads and highways and into public rail transporation.

@@MbtaVideoClipsit's simultaneously one of the best networks in the country and still an embarrassment. It's really only good by comparison to the mostly nonexistent transit in other US cities. Boston deserves better than what the MBTA delivers in most respects.
