@charlesarturo7718
@charlesarturo7718 3 года назад
@@harryparker9452 To PROVE what an idiot you are, I went and dug-up a story regarding the subject since I remember Mr. McLaughlin making a guest appearance on the NSL skit, read towards the bottom where he had a cameo in one of the episodes. John LOVED all the ribbing, etc., he even called the WRITING and performances "BRILLIANT": "`SNL` SPOOF HAS MCLAUGHLIN CRYING `MORE` Virginia Mann, The Bergen Record CHICAGO TRIBUNE John McLaughlin has found imitation to be the most marketable form of flattery. Since Dana Carvey and his ''Saturday Night Live'' cohorts started parodying the dogmatic host and his ''The McLaughlin Group'' panelists last season, McLaughlin says the audience for his forum (6:30 p.m. Saturdays, PBS- Ch. 11) has been greening. ''The demographics of the program have vastly expanded,'' McLaughlin says. ''I`ve found that younger people have been clued to the show by `Saturday Night Live.` '' In an effort to keep a good thing going, McLaughlin recently invited the chief culprits from ''SNL'' to tape two installments of his CNBC talk show, ''McLaughlin'' (9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays). On hand were Carvey, fellow performer Kevin Nealon, executive producer Lorne Michaels, head writer Jim Downey and Robert Smigel, the ''SNL'' writer who first noticed the comic potential of McLaughlin. During the taping at NBC`s Rockefeller Center headquarters, a friendly but adversarial atmosphere prevailed, McLaughlin told Carvey, ''Wayne`s World'' style, that he`s a very funny guy-not. He`s a terrific mimic-not. This would be a very good show-not. Then he offered some advice for future ''McLaughlin'' skits: ''I think you should milk my panelists more.'' In return, Carvey and Co. offered McLaughlin more ribbing. ''We never found anything we could make fun of easier than your show,'' Carvey said. ''You know you`re a character, John.'' McLaughlin-a former Jesuit priest, university professor, editor and columnist who holds a doctorate in communications from Columbia University and master`s degrees in philosophy and English from Boston College-seems to go through his highly theatrical paces with a wink. On ''The McLaughlin Group,'' the combative host, who tends to overenunciate, delights in being argumentative as he challenges his panel to give opinions and predictions about a series of issues. ''The McLaughlin Group'' has been returning the jibes. McLaughlin has been punctuating lots of declaratives with ''not.'' And Kondracke recently referred to New York City as a ''sphincter''-another term borrowed from The mutual mimicry reached its peak of silliness during the Halloween episode of ''SNL,'' when Carvey`s McLaughlin was shown slumped in his seat, apparently dead. Onto the set came the Grim Reaper, who tossed back his black robe and hood to reveal-McLaughlin. ''That cameo appearance was one of the high points of `Saturday Night Live,` '' McLaughlin quips. After the CNBC tapings, McLaughlin recalls what he thought when he discovered he was the object of parody. ''I like good humor. I like wit and creativity, and their performances were so brilliant,'' McLaughlin says. ''They give you extraordinary caricature, and I think it`s great. And I like it from a marketing point of view.'' You're an idiot, Harry.

Same here. I think I may have been the only person in my high school who not only watched but loved it. Same with the original" Crossfire" when it was Pat Braden for the left and Pat Buchanan for the right. Since Tim Russert passed there's authentic and hard hitting real news debate shows anymore. Just polished ,prepped talking heads following canned talking points and playing "Gotcha" with guests of opposing viewpoints. So lame to compared to what these kind of shows were. Classic SNL skit before Lorne went full ideologue and allowed both the left and right to be skewered and lampooned. Today's SNL is a propaganda arm of the DNC. What a shame.
