Is allowed for a medic to use a weapon?

I was a Medic during the Vietnam war. Carrying a weapon was a personal choice and probably during WWII as well.

​@@louismarucci9056Thank you for your service in Vietnam. In Vietnam, the red cross was not respected, therefor medics could choose to bear arms. However, in WW2, the Red Cross was well respected on the Western Front, and most medical command forbid company aidmen or stretcher bearers from carrying a gun while wearing the red cross. Even as something as little as a pistol would usually be restricted to officers.

I always carried a weapon

I understand it's profane. However I don't believe it was crass. They are in combat. And as a southern gentleman I don't see any ladies present.
