FILM DESCRIPTION:
Previously thought to be extinct, a massive creature attacks a deep-sea submersible, leaving it disabled and trapping the crew at the bottom of the Pacific. With time running out, a visionary oceanographer recruits rescue diver Jonas Taylor to save the crew and the sea itself from an unimaginable threat -- a 75-foot-long prehistoric shark known as the Megalodon.

You gotta give the movie some credit for their megalodon design. It surprisingly looks very accurate, short snout, and more muscular than a great white. Most media just portrays it as a oversized great white shark

Yes but the overall behaviour the shark is kinda inaccurate. Megalodon being cold-blooded thirsty killer is not that level true. If Megalodons were really that way, then most of marine animals would've been extinct back then already. Also, a shark that big would never chase humans bcoz they ain't gonna fill their stomach with those tiny lil things.

That's if you're not bleeding yourself, or if you're significantly away from the blood source and most importantly, not wriggling or moving too much, which is the first sign that attracts sharks and triggers their agression. Those animals aren't bloodthirsty killing machines and will only attack under precise circumstances and is why divers or locals are able to swim next to them. And most of the time when they attack humans it's by mistaking them for seals, and on some cases they even let go after grabbing humans, because human flesh isn't as tasty as a seal or a whale, or any fat animal, which is their main source of energy. If Jason Statham had stayed close to the Meg's body, or tried to flee sharks would have sensed him as a potential snack and would have crunched him. In some sense, one could say that sharks are maybe the most fair predators on the planet. They only hunt when they're hungry, they only hunt one particular type of food, and they never attack out of anger or territorial instincts. They just leave you alone and do their business.

@@gavinbunting7354 Eh it depends though, sometimes in a frenzy they might chomp down on you by mistake. Remember, sharks have poor eye sight from a distance. I mean, their eyes are sharp as hell, but from a distance, well. It's like needing glasses. Hence they prefer scent and electromagnetic waves. So they still might mistake you for food. If you honestly don't struggle, they tend to let go, they really do not like the taste of human flesh. Struggle a bit or thrash a bit, they will see you as a threat and try to kill you.

2:23 I really like this scene. Music playing over the swarm of sharks makes them look like the heroes of the scene. Really has an aspect of showing the power and majesty of these animals. I think it shows that humans are moving more towards respect for modern sharks rather than fear

It really does tbh. Despite the sillier moments of this movie, I gotta say that I appreciate the fact that they sneak in some shark conservation messages, like the shark finning boat scene or the line about the ones we can still save. It shows that the movie wasn't completely souless and cares about the animals of today that needs to be preserved. Even the slaying of the Meg was symbolic in a sense, a prehistoric creature put aside so we can focus on the more precious thing in the present.

It's poetic that technically it was the sharks themselves that finished it off. The Megalodon may have been bigger, stronger, faster, better in almost every way, but its reign is over. The Oceans belong to the Great Whites now, and that's a really poetic way to end the Meg once and for all.
