Quick note: SMT Imagine is still around as a fan private server run by the community. It goes by the name "ReImagine" if you're curious and didn't knew.
@@music79075 it's... A thing of its own, tbh. It is fun once you get the hang of it, but it's a clunky early 2010's mmorpg. It's kind of a link between SMT 1 and 2 iirc, with its own storyline, dungeons and everything, also you can fuse your demons at the church and everything. The hard part, for me, is to not get lost following the quests that aren't really marked on your map, you have to read them carefully unlike other MMOs. Can't really say much, never got past the first dungeon but it's surely something different.
@@music79075 It has some interesting mechanics and character development system but gameplay is really bad. I wish we had something like this but with better graphics (even compared to Nocturne Imagine isn't that good) and completely reimagined gameplay on better engine. I hope if SMTV goes strong enough we may get another SMT MMO out there.
Persona one retains the dark atmosphere and first person dungeon crawling so yeah Also i would love to see the return of the grid base combat system of P1 but reworked,or at least the return of the positions of If...
@@shubham221992 If they got remastered and or ported and were more readily available. I would love to play them, But im not gonna go out of my way to otherwise.
Btw nameless and belladonna are actually technically still in the velvet room. The velvet room theme is actually an example of diagenic music, the characters hear it too! They're still the ones playing the theme, all these entries later. Because the velvet room changes for each user though, they aren't always shown.
I don't think putting genitals or breasts on some demons is just because Kaneko wants to but it does make sense since a lot of demons in real life lore are described to have their junk (or junks) hanging out.
Not saying I support it but, I actually like the theory that Teddie is Nanako's shadow. It actually fits really well and I would even believe it if Teddie wasn't such a horndog.
From what I heard Teddie being a little perv is a bit of a mistranslation, he's supposed to be like a child who doesn't know any better that repeats whatever he hears so it could still make sense if he was Nanako's shadow
21:44 Nyarlathotep has many forms in the lovecraftian books that refer him. One of those forms is that of a black pharoah. Pretty sure the scrapped design was more leaning to lovecrafts first story featuring Nyarlathotep called the Black pharoah for inspiration.
Holy crap, someone made an SMT1 remake in rpg maker? With extra characters, story, and endings? That's so cool! I'll need to hunt it down just to see how they did the dungeon crawling XD
The Raidou censorship has to do the with the Japanese imperial era in which Japan occupied a lot of southeastern asian countries, Raidou's uniform looks similar to the japanese imperial uniform. That's why the old Japanese flag is banned in alot of countries.
It's not just Southeast Asia, Korea, Taiwan and some parts of China as well. I don't know about the other Southeast Asian countries but here in the Philippines, the Rising Sun flag is not banned.
actually onle korea against it. even china doesn't care. talking of war ear, japanese blade, gun, uniform are all everywhere and no one cares. sakura wars are Taisho era, and no one cares. it's not rea great game tho...
Japanese might have done many very bad things but that doesn't have anything to do with Raidou. Raidou doesn't wear army's uniform (it's school uniform called gakuran), the army isn't viewed positively (in fact they are the vilain of the first game), and Raidou tries to stop their agenda too. the ones calling for censorship are most likely the ones who never plays the game and they want to do it because they are scared of wrong clothes
My fav part about this video is how Kazuma Kaneko's Devil Trigger Art for Vergil stayed for the entire series. He pretty much defined and decided what Vergil's Devil Trigger would look like permanently.
Too bad Dantes changed radically. Dantes 3 DT is actually sick. I also hate that they got rid of the feature that Devil Triggers changed per what weapon you have equipped.
@@darksquigglyboy that incidentally fits the DMC story pretty well. The duality of Vergil and Dante is that one is obsessed with power, yet never grows and the other doesn't care about power at all and yet is constantly improving.
Freikugel is not a mistranslation. It's based on old german folklore. There's many versions of it, but the gist is that through some satanic ritual (casting a bullet with human blood, iron and other magical ingredients on an unholy night, or shooting a cross, thus commiting blasphemy for example) a person could obtain a 'Freikugel' (german: 'frei' outdated meaning in this context - blessed/protected (by Satan). 'Kugel' - bullet), which was said to always hit its mark, even through long distances, night, fog or corners thanks to the devil's hand.
Interestingly there's some hints that he's not actually the top dog, that he has a boss of sorts and exists more as a high level officer or managerial role. That still doesn't mean he can't demand to be called the sole deity by us mere mortals I guess.
@@Reddotzebra JHVH is in fact an AI designed to size control over system. In first SMT we in fact can encounter Security AI what has similar design to big yellow head. We also encounter two similar systems in forms of Kagutsuchi from SMT III and Brahman from Digital Devil Saga. Later in SMT IVA we learn about Axium who is implied to be more natural form of shared consciousness. My guess is that it may be in fact related to Aion from Soul Hackers II. BTW: with SMT V and Soul Hacker II i think we have definitive confirmation that series in fact take place in the future, with today being a construct (excluding Soul Hacker and SMT prologue).
@@depshallburn If you talk about Judeo-Christian theology, detail people miss is that God the Father is not the actual God. Trinity are avatars of the God... or well of one of Eight Avatars of God known as Ophanim (Throne) according to Kabbala (called Seraphim in Christianity). Specifically they are Metatron (King of Angels/Voice of God/God the Father), Raziel (God the Son/Christ/Morningstar) and Sandelphon (King of Sheol/Abaddon/Holly Spirit).
I love how Nocturnes lyrics are sung by the first voice in the list on the text to speech program, like whoever was choosing the samples just say the first one and was like “perfect”
This video didn't feel like 46mins, I thoroughly enjoyed this also really fun to find other niche games under Megaten, that Giten Megami Tensei: Tokyo Mokushiroku looked insane (and I kinda wanna play it), also interested in that "Making of Nocturne vid" keep up the great work I know getting those sources must not have been easy.
I had to start doing homework in the middle of this last night, stopped, saw this in my recommendations again and kicked myself for forgetting to finish this video. Watching it now :) Edit: It was so worth it
This was a fantastic video. I've been a fan since 2004 but I learned so much here. Well done, sir, I've subbed. I hope Metatron influences the algorithm to bring more here.
Awesome list. One Easter egg you could of added; in kyuuyaku megami tensei (mt1/2 sfc remakes) if you spin around 31 turns outside a treasure chest room then enter it, Jack frost Jr. will appear and give you xp and macca. You can find his mama and papa too
Thanks for this video learned a lot that I didn't know. For example SMT 3 lyrics being sung by a computer or how SMT IF was connected to Persona through Tamaki. Also seeing the unused Mickey and Donald sprites was surprising I would have loved to see them in game, but I understand why that couldn't happen. The Mouse is just too powerful.
The fiend theme being a remix of something found in IF is really cool, because IF basically had a blueprint for the Demifiend in it's seccondary campaign, where you and your secondary party member go somewhere completely diferent to the other two options. Likewise, your seccond party member becomes a half-demon, who slowly turns more demonic the firther along you progress, iirc
@@sock312 if we wanted to make up an excuse, maybe we could say it's similar to when the shadows separate from their host in p4, but instead of attacking or going crazy they just become their own entities that developed their own shadows?????
I forget the details but I remember reading the reason Raidou was cut from the Chinese and Korean versions was cuz his uniform was very popular at the time that the Raidou games take place, and during those times Japan was at war with China or Korea. take it with a grain of salt I have a terrible memory.
Lol, I’m glad Trinity Soul is not canon. That’s affirmed by the P3 cast still being able to use their Personas well into adulthood and Zenkichi just awakening to his in his 30-40s in P5 Strikers. It just seems dumb that you do all this growing in high school, but you get out of school and that’s enough for your strength of heart to dissolve? Come on, man xD
Ah yes, the original Persona translation. Honestly, looking back at it is hilarious, and I can only imagine what the series would be if translations continued down that path
Extremely minor gameplay spoilers for smt v: demons that are of the fiend race can learn a Magatsuhi skill called Freikugel, which is probably an homage to the Demi-fiend.
I'm pretty sure that "Freykugel" is a reference to german theater piece about a guy who possess 7 bullets that would never missed and he would fire 6 of them while the 7th would be fired by the devil
Apparently the real line from Nocturne's Forced Battle (which was incorrectly translated to Fierce Battle) isn't supposed to be One More God Rejected as most of the lyrics of the song are taken from the Bible, specifically Revelations and it's supposed to be "War broke out in Heaven" in reference to Lucifer and the Fallen Angels rebelling aganist God and being cast from Heaven. The 4th Snake recently just made a video about it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-blpLwpqKlzw.html
1:50 You're kidding, right? 10 years ago I had pretty much the same idea for a book (Too bad I'm bad at telling stories). Sometimes it's insane which specific thoughts somebody else already thought. My idea included scanning figures of superheroes, which would then come to life, but overall they were detrimental to the world and the people (Similar to Superman versus Batman from what arrived later). So the protagonist which created them sets out to destroy them.
For the "Dios no mata mucho" or rather, "Dios no mata, Moncho". The name is pronounced Mon (as in Monday) and cho (as in chocolate). And it's the nickname used to refer to people named Ramón. Just to clarify. Good video!
About your comment regarding DemiKids, there are a couple Pokémon clones with multiple versions that are so drastically different they are essentially different games. Digimon World: Dusk & Dawn are prime examples. They literally do what DemiKids does, with a central overarching story, and the MCs of each game taking a different path to reach essentially the same end goal. On a much smaller scale, Dragon Warrior Monsters 2 as well, tho all that really changes between the versions is which sibling you play as, what monsters you can encounter, and the post game is significantly different, but the main storyline is pretty much exactly the same. Also, Tara's Adventure is apparently much easier than Cobi's Journey, tho I never could tell. P.s. I know I am in the vast minority here, but to this day I f***ing love DemiKids! I still play them now and then almost 20 years after I originally discovered them with my older brother!
also a quick note: Dx2 once also have a collab with Devil May Cry so Dante has appeared in two Megaten games now (three if you count Nocturne remaster)
also wanna point out how matador 4:07 is infamous for basically killing your team in one turn cuz of his buff cuz he can essentially use magarula 4 times and just ultimate team wipe
The Sonic collab in Liberation Dx2 makes a bit more sense when you consider that Atlus (who makes the Megaten games) is a subsidiary of Sega, same as Sonic Team (who as the name suggests are the ones who make most Sonic games).
"Ren is the son of Vincent and Katherine from the good ending" is a fun little theory, but it doesn't really work because Catherine and its characters are based in America "What about Vincent appearing in Persona 3 Portable?" Well that wasn't really Vincent, that was 'Man Drinking Alone' lol. And even then he was probably just there as an easter egg for Catherine
Nah, been playing Dx2 since day 2 (missed the launch LOL) and still playing it daily. Storywise the game is meh, but gameplay is very true to Press Turn system (though magic CAN NOT miss at all), but going further with extended pierce and anti-pierce mechanics. That SMT level of demon customization is still here compared to most mobile version of many popular games cutting it to 3-4 skills and that makes gameplay much more interesting.
Well, here's the music in order. I'll add this to the description as well for future reference. Intro - Exploration (Devil Survivor 2) Layer 1 - After School (Persona 3 Portable) Layer 2 - Tokyo (Shin Megami Tensei 4) Layer 3 - The Voice Someone Calls -in the labyrinth- (Persona Q) Layer 4 - Kinshicho Park (Shin Megami Tensei 4 Apocalypse) Layer 5 - Freedom and Security (Persona 5) Layer 6 - Outer Universe (Shin Megami Tensei 4 Apocalypse) Layer 7 - Omen (Persona 4) Ending - Large Map (Shin Megami Tensei 4 Apocalypse)
Huh, I’ve never heard the theory that Joker is Vincent and Katherine’s kid. I have however seen a few people theorizing his parents are Jun and Tatsuya from Persona 2, probably because Jun also used the alias of Joker, and also his surname (Kurosu) is very similar to Joker’s surname in the manga adaptation of Persona 5 (Kurusu)
i subscribe to the headcanon that it’s Catherine and Vincent, not Katherine Mcbride. In CFB, if you romance Catherine, you’re given her true ending. there’s a photo of her and vincent with their children. catherine’s son to the left looks eerily too similar to renren.
The Seraph's fans' writing being complete gibberish is completely thematic if you know anything about angels themselves. That being they're borderline unknowable, transdimensional beings that choose to make themselves appear in a way that is comprehendible to the human mind. I'm looking at you, Thrones and Cherubim (aka, Biblically Accurate Angels).
To be fair on the game theory thing, most of the time games take precedent over side material assuming side material is brought in at all so I can't fault him too hard for that
quick note (I'm sure someone else has pointed this out already but I haven't seen it) phantom thief hifumi is not quite correctly explained here, though it is the explanation most of the community (falsely) believes in there were plans for an additional phantom thief for persona 5 but the character and their arc got cut due to the game's already gigantic length. they simply reused her design as a confidant, but hifumi as she is in p5 has nothing to do with that character besides design it is true though that some traits originally planned for this cut phantom thief were given to makoto instead
39:09 damn, what the fuck is this Just read the synopsis. Turns out the mutilation was part of the main plot. And the main quest was to retrieve said limbs. Think of it as Kizumonogatari to put it simply in this era
Nope, not officially anyway. We in the US were never able to access it by legitimate means, only Japan, and even that was only for a few weeks via Spotpass.
i have the photo of kaz in the field of flowers on a shirt. it’s my favorite thing to wear and everyone asks me “who is the man on your shirt??” “he’s my husband :)”
13:57 just sums up GameTheory in total lol. Idk when it happened but he changed from actually looking at it b science of stuff to the nothing nonsense he does now. Anyways. Fun video, I knew a lot of this but I definitely learned some too!
