For me, Zeni Geva & Polvo.. but I'm just a huge fan of both those acts. Melvins are more prolific, longer lasting and more experimental (so arguably the best/better) - but in my subjective bias Polvo's chords/controlled dissonance really blew me away in the 90s, then I found Zeni Geva and they have been my no 1 band since. Most people would prefer Melvins over Zeni Geva, but I think Zeni Geva got a little heavier than the Melvins at some points. Horses for courses though :) I dream of a KK Null and King Buzzo collab :)
Bands ahead of their time take the hits and brunt of forging new paths for future bands. All of us 90s rock kids can thank bands like this for all of our favorite era of music. And lo and behold their stuff still rocks and holds up. Bless the Melvins.
Dale, without question, the greatest drummer nobody ever remembers to bring up in the conversation......I take Dale and Gene H. from Death over anyone else in the business....
Yeah they've had a million bassists over the years so they don't usually include them xD Joe Preston of the Thrones was one of my faves, also Mark Deutrom was a cool guy - only can say because saw them and interviewed them while he was still in the band. After that the only time I've seen them was the Fantomas/Melvins/Tomahawk tour, which was ace as well, but couldn't really distinguish the bassist at that time (as being unique and new part)
@@Ninja_Gaijin I've met Lukin, and Preston when I was being a drink idiot (not at the same time). And Dale gave me all his weed after a show of theirs I worked.
He wasn't even 10 years old when he started Redd Kross w/ his brother back in the early LA Punk scene of the late '70's. They shared practice space with Black Flag. He also plays with Keith Morris in Off! which sounds just like early BF. Goes by the name of Steven McDonald.
These guys are something else. I never heard of them until last night. I ran a cross a video named Queen. I was hooked. I am a metal head from the 80's. What a sound. They was listed as Grunge. They are not. This sound is head banging all the way!!!! Love it. Have all ready order their CDs. Can't wait to get them.
I must have been under a rock. I didn't like Grunge all that much so I didn't follow it. These guys should not have been called Grunge. That's Rock & Roll man!!!!!!!!!!!!
Go for these albums from the late '80s & early '90s by MELVINS, Bill: Gluey Porch Treatments, Ozma, Bullhead, & Eggnog. You'll be thankful that you did. Cheers!
Outstanding! After I left my comment, I noticed that you'd said you had made some purchases already. You are on top of it! lol! I saw them live about 20 or 21 times -- first time was 'Houdini' tour w/ Lorax on bass, last time was 'Hostile Ambient Takeover' w/ Rutmanis on bass. Never a disappointment. Over the course of the last few months, I've uploaded about 6 vids of rare, early Melvins to my channel. Check it when you have time! Have a good one, Bill!
still today The Melvins are in my top 5 favorite. hope I get to ever see them live I haven't got the chance yet and now with everything it seems like that might possibly never happen😔
Godammit I love these guys.. epic integrity and hilarious.Within the first few seconds Buzz mentions TWICE how much people wanted to kill them. Makes me feel better about no one giving a shit about my bands.
This band is so fucking unbelievably important, the Stooges, R.E.M., Pixies, The Breeders, Black Flag, Ministry, the Melvins, the Ramones, Motorhead, The Germs, and sooooo many others need sooooo much more credit than they ever got.
@Michael South He means they were never as popular as Britney Spears, which for some reason is very, very important and bothers dorks like him deeply. It's like they need the validation or something.
I’ve wanted to see that forever! But not at the prices it s sold for … been waiting years now .. how did u see it ? I want to see the long version with bonus stuff
Great interview, thank you! But it would be better (on the technical side) if you put the background music lower on volume, or not use it completely. It interferes with the band talking, and I've seen some people find the "secondary", "background" role of the songs derogative to them as separate works. Melvins rock!!!
At least half a dozen shows including 4 nights at the National Hotel, an all-ages matinee at Ten Foot Henry's and later around '90 at the Westward Club. The first shows were in '86. There may have been shows after 1990 but I stopped caring and going. They completely emptied the Westward Club show out in '90. Drove the whole crowd out of the venue by the end of their set. It was so unmusical I had no interest in going to see them ever again. They were a completely different band than the one that had played shows here 4-5 years earlier. There's a famous picture of Kurt Cobain practicing guitar in his bedroom as a teen with a Melvins flyer from Calgary on his wall.
Also would be nice if Buzz could realize KC death wasn’t suicide but Illuminati ritual killing like so many other Hollywood deaths … but he’s part of Illuminati also ; so he has to sell the official version lol
