The Royal Australian Navy using the Shark Marine NAVIGATOR underwater sonar and navigation systems - encounter with a shark.
I downloaded this video from the Australian News site several years ago as it showed our diver-held sonar and navigation system in operation. Recently I received an email request from a Grade 6 student for information on sharks. I explained to her that we didn't really deal with sharks but sometimes our equipment does. I then posted this video to my personal RU-vid site and sent her a link - not quite sure how all the rest of you found it..... Not my video but thanks for the likes!!

Apparently my great grandfather did "this kind of work", I phrase it that way because whilst there was undoubtedly similarities it was probably also quite different back then. Was always told he was too young during WW1 and too old for WW2. He did have a metric fuck ton of medals though that he never spoke about so was obviously doing something somewhere. All a bit mysterious really, I suspect it was WW2 as I'm pretty sure he would have been 38 at the start which isn't exactly way out there old. Heard something about limpet mines once, guess as they're pretty small he was more likely planting them than looking for them. But who knows.

Always wondered what these types of divers do about the carnivorous nasties that inhabit the depths, aside from simply trying to evade them of course. A fuck off big blade is something but would imagine is less than ideal against a gigantic shark or crocodile. Then you have some countries that have special underwater firearms but they're more geared towards human targets and may not make much difference against a huge shark. I've pondered from time to time whether any military has ever looked into some kind of incapacitant spray that could work underwater. Some kind of chemical, solid or gas that would work underwater and when discharged near a fuck off massive shark would make it swim away in repulsion, ideally without the same stuff taking out the frogman lol.
@geraldlobster7695
@geraldlobster7695 3 года назад
Im sure there are certain chemicals that sharks don’t like just as moths hate moth balls, but dumping chemicals in the water that the aquatic life don’t like won’t be ideal for them and in a worse case scenario might cause them to migrate elsewhere, a spray would be difficult to work because while it is pushed out by a gas it still has liquid in it so depending on how light or heavy the liquid is compared to water will determine it’s effectiveness, honestly worse case scenario if you see a shark, just swim away and hope it hasn’t spotted you, if it has well it might be too late, but you could use your knife, underwater firearm, fist (if that would even work) or anything else at your disposal.
@yolo571
@yolo571 3 года назад
In my opinion they should work on (if they haven't already ) on a stun bullet enclosed in a shell which havs a small pressure plate at the front. when it hits a target, it bursts opens the shell and stuns the shark and gives them time to get away Just an idea btw
@CoffeeFiend1
@CoffeeFiend1 3 года назад

Clearance divers aren’t Special Forces, the network got that bit wrong. Australia only has two SF units. Commandos and SASR. Navy clearance divers are just a highly specialised role in the navy. Probably the closest thing the navy has to SF, but they aren’t.

Your fitness teacher is a liar, just because your grades are good doesn’t mean you’re too good to be enlisted, there’s a lot of people around that go around saying stuff like that, the real reason is he was just decided not to do it and he’s ashamed
