While on holiday in Dumfries and Galloway I decided to climb The Merrick, the highest mountain in The south of Scotland. We took the same route up and down starting near Bruce’s Stone, Loch Trool. A fantastic day.

Thank you for posting Linda. Looks like you had a good day with the conditions. That was the first hill I ever climbed - with my parents when aged 5. Inspired a lifelong interest in the hills. Nostalgic memories. 🙏

Enjoy your holiday. Galloway was my teen stomping ground. Used to get the bus from Ayr and walk all over , camping etc. 42 years ago I spent a freezing night in Culsharg. No door or window frames then but a lot cleaner. A lightning storm had forced us in there. Bailed the next day for the house o'hill and the buses home. It is a very underrated area.

I agree, it’s an amazing area. I stayed in White Laggan bothy doing the SUW in 1992 and the scenery was incredible. It’s a shame Culsharg is in such a sorry state. Thanks for watching. 👍

Great to see this. One of my daughters recently moved to dumfries, and in may we climbed crifell, so the merrick would be a good follow up next time I visit her . Thank you

@@philipwatt1016 thanks Philip. I looked at climbing Crifell but ended up in a campsite a bit too far away. 👍

Been up the Merrick quite a few times but been a few years since my last visit. The last time the forest/montane slab was at the edge of the woods and the route up benyellary didn't look so eroded 😮

@@red1outdoors I guess it’s a popular hill being a Corbett. Just wish the path had been a bit better lower down. Thanks for watching. 👍

Hi, loved your last vlog well done on finishing the walk. Great that you didn’t have to encounter any more cows 🐄 🤭. I am totally with you in regards to being scared about getting tics. I ended up going on a walk at weekend and was waist high in thistles and grass and was sure I’d have some but thankfully not 😮‍💨. Shane about the poles do you think they make a big difference? I have some but don’t use them, maybe I should. Does your husband enjoy the walks with you and Brora too? Loved the clip of you with a wee glass of wine it’s ace you enjoy yourself too. I always add the walks you do to my list in all trails 🥰. At you were hoping Brora would jump in the water to clean himself off 😂. Looking forward to the next adventure. xx
@LindaOutdoors
@LindaOutdoors 26 дней назад
Thanks Angie, the poles make a huge difference on steep terrain. It helps with balance too. Luckily the poles are back in action. Ticks are really bad this year, Brora’s had loads of them. Thanks for watching. 👍

Hi Linda we were up three Merrick on the 8th June , very very windy and cold needed gloves and hat on . Path is not very good at the beginning quite hard walking we thought. Not my favourite hill, but enjoying watching you and Brora tackle it , well done ,thank you for sharing 😊

Thanks Janice. Yeah, the boggy, bouldery path was hard going but good further up. It was the 12th June I climbed it. 👍
