How does Peter try to be Christ’s “handler” in Capernaum? What sinister Greek verb is hidden in the disciples “searching” for Jesus? Have archaeologists found Peter’s home? And what do we know about this apostle’s wife? ‪@chadbird1517‬ answers all these questions in this week’s video on “Reading the Gospels through Hebrew Eyes."

Thank you for this wonderful exposition. I was struck by several things, but as much by how Jesus won't let the demons speak, "because they knew him." Last week (Mk 1.24), the demon possessed man named Jesus as "the Holy One of God!" - and yet, Jesus rebuked him. This week, the demons are silenced preemptively. Does this tie into the OT notion that those who name something have power over the thing named? I'm reminded of Adam naming the creatures during Creation (Gen 1), Jacob wrestling with the angel and wanting to know his name (Gen 32.29), as well as God's renaming Abram, Sarai, and Jacob as part of God's unfolding covenant relationship with humans. Jesus has power over the demons, as his healings last week and this attest. He cannot and will not give even the impression that the demons have any power over him.
