The Miami Heat Are Breaking All the Rules.

The Miami Heat managed to hold off the Boston Celtics from making a 3-0 comeback, securing their second trip to the NBA Finals in five years, their first appearance since the 2020 NBA Bubble Finals.
The Miami Heat have executed despite not having a star-studded roster outside of Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo. Head Coach Erik Spoelstra is making a convincing case to be the best coach in the entire league, putting players like Caleb Martin and Gabe Vincent into positions where they can succeed. The Caleb Martin game 7 performance was what ultimately helped elevate them to the win. Erik Spoelstra managed to navigate the Gabe Vincent injury masterfully.
The success of guys like Caleb Martin highlights the importance of maximizing undrafted talent and knowing how to use guys in ways that maximizes their strengths. The Miami Heat do this arguably better than any other team in the NBA. It's what made Heat vs Celtics such a contentious matchup, and why the Celtics had such a hard time handling it.
Even guys like Haywood Highsmith getting significant run, defending premiere players like Jayson Tatum, is a testament to how the Miami Heat keep a big toolbox of players for any given scenario. Even when Jimmy Butler was struggling, they had guys who could step up. Jayson Tatum's injury was certainly something that might've helped, but the Boston Celtics just didn't step up. This win officially made them the first 8th seed in NBA history to make the NBA Finals in a non-lockout season.

I think this playoff run has solidified if it already wasn’t solidified that erik spolstrea is the best coach in the league right now and caleb martin going from a solid role player in the regular season to at some points being the 2nd best player and regularly being the 3rd best player on the heat this series was one of the biggest reasons the heat won this series

I love seeing #8 vs #1 In a finals situation. Not a basketball fan, but found myself watching these playoffs and now the finals. Main reason I’m watching is the 1st vs 8th matchup. However, I’m also watching because the Warriors and the Lakers aren’t in the finals. Kinda got tired of those teams as soMeone who’s on the outside and has a hard time getting into basketball
@serenadesilhout
@serenadesilhout Год назад
They have a saying if you stay Ray you don’t have to get ready. It’s more than just finding guys and using them, it’s developing them and trusting them. Look at how many coaches were fired this season alone. Coach Spo has the final say in how his team is prepared and what plays to run and he’s been able to gain the trust of his players as a result. Most organizations can’t replicate Heat culture because as soon as there’s one bad season they jump ship. Heat culture is just as much learning through misery as much as through success. Most teams fail and give up for so long when they get a talented team, they don’t know how to win. The Heat reminds me of a college program where no matter who you are or what decade, their core identity is the same. Hats off the Heat. There’s proof that you don’t have to tank to be successful.

A lot of people talk about the Heat's zone which does cause a lot of problems. However, what doesn't get mentioned enough is when Coach Spo decided to pull out the zone. I remember there was like 35 seconds left in the half and the Celtics wanted to go for a 2 for 1, but the Heats pulled out the zone and prevented that opportunity. One of the most genius moves I've seen recently.

Very nice review, you said 29 GMs look into Miami Heat and try to understand what they did right? - I think it boiled down to consistency... every time a coach is replaced, a GM is replaced it sets them back a few years and when they are starting to have some success and failure - they look to replace the GM. Miami has that level of consistency, Spoelstra been the head coach for more than 13 years (let alone was in another capacity before that) - that is consistency right. Spoelstra has had a number of years with losing record season and despite that, Pat Riley stuck with him. And now, Miami is reaping the fruits of it's labour for years before... another is how Miami developed undrafted and scrub players but that is another story.

To follow up on that Martin point about attacking off the catch, Klay Thompson himself had a 50 point game on 11 dribbles. It's definitely possible to be an efficient scorer if your fundamentals are sound, your confidence is right, and your team and coach have faith that you can make those kinds of shots. You can give your stars a rest for a couple of baskets on the court which always helps back on defense.
