It’s crazy because none of the soundtracks of the era sounded like them.

I lived through it. I’m not getting that vibe from this music at all.

That's because they're reflecting the feelings of being a kid instead of simply copying what already existed. Yes the synth is there but its an original expression. You couldn't PLAY this in 1988 or 1989 because there wouldn't be nostalgia to cultivate. @@cody3335

Oh my gosh I love this comment.. I was the mall girl totally boy crazy hoping to run into the "one"!! Lol Love our generation of romantics. This band totally captures those memories and vibes we felt. Resurfaces every time I hear their music.

There is a ton of post production going here to the after recording. It's not really "live"... They are not good live at all and it's a shame

@Forthecasuals it's just not good, I've played many many live shows. I've ran sound for a ton of bands, it's hard to say why some bands sound great live and others dont.... Some musicians are amazing when you shut the doors and have no eyes on them then they crater in a live situation, same for singers. Then you have the type of music... some music is easy to replicate and others not so much. Oddly enough, the more talented musicians that they've (The Midnight) added to perform more live and less depending on backing tracks, ect... the worst they have sounded. That's just my opinion though so, and I'm not trying to bash them. They are easily one of my favorite bands. Look up on here "Nocturnal Live"... its one of their earliest shows = Tim playing some layered synths on top of heavily based back tracking + Tyler on vox + a guy on sax and it's the best they ever sounded. One main reason I believe their music is hard to pull off live using mostly live musicians is the fact that thier sound is do heavily EDM sounding and that is very difficult to recreate. Anyway there are tons of reason at play here, it's all easy to explain while incredibly difficult to really explain. At the end of the day, mediocre (imho) musicians like Green Day sound amazing live while other more proficient musicians like The Midnight struggle mightily live. That being said def go see them and remember I'm just some rando on the webz. Cheers 🍻

I think it’s Tyler’s voice, they are great, but he makes the band, I can’t imagine anyone singing this except him
