In the fall of 2017, Latino activist group BROWN ISSUES launched an unprecedented protest call-to-action in California’s state capital to defend DACA. Their heads held high and defiance kept in check, dozens of youth descended upon a national sporting event with this message: if nature’s Monarch butterfly so easily travels from one country to another, why can’t America’s 800,000 Dreamers do the same? But the innocence of this youth is tested when their goal becomes threatened. Did BROWN ISSUES overcome their obstacles to soar as freely as their trusty butterfly?
