I don't think I like this direct upgrade. What happens to redstone? Its still used in recipes, but not really as a block anymore. What if they could go through blocks, but kept the power level, needing to be replenised by regular repeaters? Itd be too op if it traveled instantly, and hiding Redstone completely is also alot. But to make up for all that, copper wires could turn in any direction, up down north south east west, AND, they could make it so you can deconnect unneeded wires, like two of them standing side by side! Or a cross section!
@PădureAndrei-j9k
@PădureAndrei-j9k Год назад
I think It would need a transformer that takes 5 redstone ticks to activate, but afterwards it can pass trought the copper wire without distance limit, but being unable to power normal redstone components, so that it will need another transformer to be usefull. Or it could be used to upgrade redstone components to have no delay and they to need to be powered by copper wires, not direct redstone, making it a late game improvement. The transformers should be hard to get, like needing ender cristals or something late game to craft

@The_hot_blue_fire_guy
@The_hot_blue_fire_guy Год назад
And that is the main problem. I don’t mind new building blocks but if you are going to add an entire new ore to the game then maybe you should make it at least somewhat useful outside of building!? Not everyone plays Minecraft to build structures. Many people play it to explore the world for adventure or they play because they like to solve problems and come up with solutions for those problems, (like making redstone contraptions that can automate or simplify aspects of the game) As it is right now copper is pretty much useless to anyone not interested in building and designing. There is no point to this resource for adventure, or puzzle solving players! And that is why copper needs to get at least some other use besides building material. Because otherwise it’s literally a waste of an ore type! I mean even ores like nether quartz are useful in some redstone recipes but copper doesn’t even have that going for it! Lapis is almost pointless but at least you need to use it for enchanting! Every ore type has at least some purpose that isn’t just “existing” every ore except copper that is.
@5001Fergies
@5001Fergies Год назад
Im almost certain they only added it for modpacks, because before now every mod in a pack would have to make their own copper, leading to packs like tekkit and ftb having 6 different copper ores that arent compatible with each other
@The_hot_blue_fire_guy
@The_hot_blue_fire_guy Год назад
@@5001Fergies why would they suddenly care about mods? mojang has never been anti mod but they haven’t exactly embraced mods either. We still don’t have a moding API even though they said like a couple years ago that they would add one. And then they claimed that APIs like forge and fabric were good enough so they didn’t need to add a official one! Plus copper is also in bedrock and mods don’t work on bedrock! And we all know that mojang doesn’t really care about Java and only keeps it around because if they shut Java down they would never live it down and the backlash would be greater than chat reporting and 1.9 combat combined!

That isn't true at all. Of course this relates to copper armor and tools, but I think that this is just a coverup of the -fact- theory that Mojang, just doesn't want to. If the reasons and research just doesn't convince enough people then the idea isn't bad, its just not good enough. Its not good enough to justify altering the core gameplay experience of the game whos gameplay will be remembered by the next generation. Its just hard to justify things when you really think about being in a meeting with gameplay designers, artists, managers, developers, animators, storyboardists, and writers and give your presentation expecting the majority of them to be convinced. thats honestly why the stuff in the recent updates really just adds new niche features or makes the game more interconnected. improving existing features like the nether rather than adding new dimensions. it all comes down to keeping minecraft ... well minecraft and making it better. does adding new stuff for the sake of satisfying players who could use mods make sense. as a side note, we dont know whats in jeb's minecraft dev guide book. we also dont know the lore for certain. any new additions must keep continuity with extablished lore or you probably have to talk to higher management and a few writers. They have no length limit. Alternatively, lightning rods could be used for this - Rails that make minecarts go faster and make them preserve velocity, even after leaving the track. This would allow for jumping across ravines using a ramp, for example. We also need a way to make copper oxidize faster for building purposes. It's painfully slow right now and even though I personally use a data pack that adds recipes for oxidized copper, it would be nice for all players to have access to a really good looking block. They could either make it simply oxidize faster or give thick/mundane potions a use by making it so that throwing a splash potion of that type on it makes it immediately oxidize. It would save builders a lot of time

I think some sort of bulk-use recipes in particular would be best for a resource as abundant as copper. I've thought for a while that having a proper pipe block would lower the iron costs (and hopefully lag) from long hopper chains that ultimately don't make a ton of sense conceptually (why would you need a ton of funnels when there's only like 1 input area for items?). Additionally, I think having at least one but preferably several copper based redstone components would give it a happy home with one of the largest communities this game has. It's important for people to think about new resources not in the simplest of RPG-progression terms, but utilizing the broad creative space that minecraft has to offer that makes redstone more powerful than netherite and iron stronger than diamonds: what you can do with the things made from redstone and iron are far more deadly and earthshaping than having a little extra armor or DPS.

Ideas for more copper functionality: Make zombies unable to break down copper doors but still behaving as a non-iron door this would make copper doors incredibly useful for villages as they would make the doors zombie-proof while still allowing the villagers to enter and exit their houses at will. Maybe change the recipe to 6 ingots and make the 6 blocks recipe into an identical looking door that requires redstone, called the heavy copper door. Another idea is to change the powered rail recipe to use copper, and then keep the gold recipe for new "super powered rails" that would go much faster than the current rails, as currently minecarts are still a rather slow method of transportation compared to what has been added since.

Aluminium: The new bauxite rock when mined drops alumina which should be smelted twice to get aluminium ingot , basically like iron but lighter thus making you fast , you can replace iron with aluminium in every crafting recipe iron has. Titanium: Basically a rarer stronger version of iron where titanium tools are on par with diamond ones

Some ways to improve copper: 1) Mixing gold and copper would make a gold alloy which is stronger than regular gold (and iron) but weaker than diamond. And these can be used to craft golden tools and armor instead of the regular useless golden tools. 2) As others said, integrating it with redstone could also fix the issue. And maybe copper for vertical signals would be nice too.

You know when you are done with everything that you just start building stuff, Also in my mind I see copper as an overworld quartz. Because it’s strictly a decoration block and nothing much else There is a few recipe like the lighting rod or the spy glass. Copper Pipes! Add new types of pipes that essentially work as cheaper hoppers. Less storage space within the pipe, but there could be different pipes with different uses. Different pipes that can transport items, filter them, and send them upward with very minimal redstone efforts. Allowing early game and less experienced players to access the joys of item organization. Of course hoppers will still be useful in taking the items out of storage and placing them back into storage, pipes would just work essentially as a bridge between hoppers.

Integrate it with redstone. People talk about it's conductive ability, but we already have that, maybe pipes so you don't need to use so many hoppers in transport? 3. Tools for the sake of machinimas and role-playing. They could be on the level of stone, just retextured. 4. This one may go too far: fooling piglins. Wearing copper armor would reduce the range at which they attack you, and dropping a bar would distract them from chasing you (but they wouldn't give items for copper)

Fun fact: copper is actually the ores that gives the most amount of experience in the game. By mining a copper ore with a fortune 3 pickaxe, you can get anywhere from 2 to 20 raw copper for an average of 11. And, when a raw copper is smelted into a copper ingot, you will receive 0.7 xp. This means every copper ore will give you 7.7 experience on average, which is better than quartz's 2-5 xp per ore.

Making copper a good early game resource wiuld mean nerfing iron, which is a lot easier to farm, so no. Integrate it into redstone? Theres not lots of room for expansion there, plus its complicated enough already. We cant get rid of it completely, we bedrock players don't have optifine and therefore actually appreciate telescopes! Maybe make lightning storms more frequent, and let the skeleton horse traps work with lightning rods(idk how to explain but if you know you know) and make copper variations of other blocks ie. copper chains, copper bars, and maybe copper arrows that would have some sort of advantage over normal arrows in early game? An argument NO ONE brings up when comparing iron to copper is that copper grew alongside the game. When the game started, irons was an tool tier and used for minecarts. And it stayed that way for TWO YEARS when they added pistons. That was fine because the scope of the game was small. It took two years, AGAIN, for anvils to be added. At that point iron is close to being the iron we know know. Cooper cannot be a tool tier, it would be too easy to skip and the current armor progression doesn’t really have much space for more anyways. But similar to infdev iron, it does have one large resource sink: building (iron have minecart tracks). Copper has been around for 2 years, and its only added uses are going to be for armor trimming and archeology. There are two things that complicated the growth of uses for copper. 1- The CAVES AND CLIFFS update disaster. It was intended to be One update. But partially due to covid, partially due to overhype, they had to add copper early along with other blocks and add the other parts of the update after. This meant that copper was ignored during 1.18’s development and probably during 1.19 because they literally couldn’t focus on it: they were still fulfilling promises from 1.17. 1.20 is the first chance they’ve had to develop copper a little further. 2- MODDED. When they add features in minecraft, they DO consider the modded scene and copper was very much a part of that. Every tech mod had a copper of its own, meaning if you played multiple tech mods at once you would get multiple different copper ores. Mojang addressed this by adding a central copper ore everybody could use. The problem is that if they want to add a use for copper now, it needs to not step on the toes of existing mods. Mojang bears the burden of originality: they need to find a new, unexpected use for copper. And so my closing argument, a TLDR, if you will: “Yall are impatient mfs, copper hasnt really had many opportunities to grow in the two years its been around.” …yooooo i could make a video essay outta this

One thing I don't like being used against copper is "bUt OpTiFiNe AlReAdY hAs ZoOm" The fact that a very popular mod has a feature doesn't make Mojang using it a bad thing, it makes it a GREAT thing. Many people (probably most) use Minecraft without mods, so adding this feature to the main game, while useless for some, is an addition that has PROVEN to be something the community likes. But yeah other than that copper's kinda useless because after you mine literally one ore you're set on copper for probably the entire playthrough of the world

Not like that anything like that ever came out a decade ago or anything though, haha...

One of the youtube channels from the german science bubble has literally made the "Cu" joke a thing long ago. They say "Copper" instead of "goodbye" there casually. I like how you brought this same joke in as well, even though this is less of a scienc-y channel. It's really crazy how you can make jokes from all kinds of topics/areas. That's a real talent imo! Anyway, from my understanding they added copper because of how many mods need copper for e.g. electricity and how each of these mods needs to add copper as a resource first and modpacks having multiple mods who add copper and caves become COPPER-CEPTION!. Meanwhile us vanilla players... ahem :D I do agree bay-zed on your previous work that recipes/uses are key to making Copper something people want to farm. Right now, I use it only as mending-repair before I have an XP farm (late mid/early late game). Lightning Rod could be used for charged Creepers or Witch farms, however I haven't done that ever, not worth. IDK how 1.20 changes will affect copper as a resource. Easy solution (possibly unpopular): change existing recipes. Imagine a copper hopper. Not only does it sound way better but considering the cost of iron hoppers, it would be a great use for all the spare copper we have, while nerfing Iron a bit. How about copper rails instead of golden rails? This would make Minecarts stronger, we need gold for Bartering and for Golden Apples (mid game), Instant Health Potions (late game) and Golden Carrots (late game). It could buff gold slightly to get closer to its' competitors. It already got a long way from what it used to be, but there's more we could do. Harder solutions: bronze material. Bronze pickaxe could be a requirement to mine iron, adding another "phase" to the game. You'd first need to find TWO ores, then craft it before you can even attain Iron. This would require them to add ANOTHER ore though, which I doubt they would do since cave update(s) are done already. I dislike the idea of making copper coins for trading. Trading is already pretty broken, I doubt adding/changing it to copper would be an improvement. Akshually, Trading would probably be an interesting video idea (🤓👆) Don't know what they're doing in the future, but surely they have more plans for Copper, right? Right!? Great video as always, keep up the good work! And sorry for oversharing, ADHD Andrea here. But since you've read this far you probably don't care.
@XayXayYT
@XayXayYT Год назад
Glad you enjoyed the video and I always welcome my community to share their thoughts, so don't worry, I've read it all the way :p I do want to point out that the hopper idea could be a bit dangerous, since hoppers are one of Iron's major uses, especially for Minecraft resource farms, and taking it away would not just heavily nerf iron, but also iron farms, and make automatic farms in general harder to make. Which are definitely things to consider before making the change.

If they buff mobs a bit and have copper and tin added, we could have early game tools and armor (also make iron spawn at deeper levels, and have more mobs spawn the deeper you go, to an extreme degree). Also, have copper wire that is redstone but can be used underwater. Also, have a new furnace type thaf is powered using lava and smeltd stuff 3x as fast as the blast furnace. And have actual trains!
