The landslide was in Westchester, south between Rhinebeck and NYC. It impacted the MTA and Amtrak on the Hudson line. All the buses to the city were full, so a ride is very lucky!

Fellow Knitter/Crocheter English teacher here (of 20+ years). 1.) Book Club? YES. Any book. I'm onboard. I did just finish Covenant of Water by Abraham Verghese on Audible and I just found my #1 all-time favorite book ever. As an 'older' English teacher, this was something that I wasn't sure would ever happen. Hearing the narrator read the novel to me probably had a huge impact, but regardless - HIGHLY recommend. Maybe not for the book club but for you. 2.) Totally appreciate that you only shared your personal experiences about the weekend - good and bad - and allowed others to share their personal experiences. Sharing rumors and jumping on the negative bandwagon has some value, but leaving it to others who experienced it personally is such a respectful way to handle the situation. Bravo. 3.) Thank you for sharing your experience verbally and with video clips of the Rhinebeck experience. I'm an introvert and dealing with any kind of crowd is a total nightmare experience to me - despite how much I love fiber and the people who love fiber. So - I got to experience it vicariously through your podcast. Thank you. LOVE that you are willing to put the time and effort into making these videos.

Thanks for your enthusiastic response, Sylvia! I'll keep you posted about the book club, but I'm looking to have something set up early in the new year. I've made a note of your recommendation. I used to be an audible/audiobook skeptic myself, but given the fact that it pairs so well with knitting, I know I go through more books in this format than I do in any other. A part of me feels bad about that...but only a small part. :)

Stephen, I was very lucky to have found some 100% kiviut at a mill in BC last year. The owner had some stashed away and thought people would not be interested it in as it is quite expensive. I bought three skeins and she gave me a discount. I am planning to knit my self a lacy shawl to keep my shoulders warm in our Nova Scotia winters.

How wonderful to have gathered so much ideas and inspiration for your novel at the two events. I so enjoy murder mystery novels and would be honoured to read it (did you mean the equivalent of a test knit?) if looking for volunteers. Not a writer myself but love the idea of a month dedicated to writing - what a great motivation to writers like yourself and get a novel finished, or for others to get one started. Qiviuk is insanely expensive, it’s definitely a luxury yarn. In parts of Alaska musk ox will brush against bushes and people will go and collect the wool. The traditional Alaskan item to make with Qiviuk is a smoking ring. A narrow cowl that is long enough to pull up like a hood.

Found a sweater vest I am hot to knit. It is called shawl collared vest by Meg Swanson. I couldn’t get the pattern on Ravelry so I ordered Meg’s book, Handknitting with Meg Swanson. This will require a toothy wooly yarn.

I have been binging on RU-vid Rhinebeck videos. You are new to me. I love knitting and other fiber crafts. I am a retired teacher, the wee ones! When I was working, there was no time for RU-vid and I am making up for it all now! I have a lot of Scot Irish in me and love both countries. I haven't been to Rhinebeck. I almost got there once but it didn't work out. I really don't think I could go. I would be so frustrated and overwhelmed wanting it all. I would need a straight jacket! Since you like music, do you like opera? I am a small city girl and big cities are scary to me. My opera venue is Glimmerglass Opera in Cooperstown, NY. It is a summer season only. Did you ever see the Shetland lady who knit a fence on specially made gigantic needles? Crazy....good! I like to watch the Scottish sheep herder on RU-vid. The channel is The Sheep Game. I am going to subscribe and I will see you again.

Depeche Mode was AMAZING! Those guys are in their 60s now, but they still rock out like they're in their 20s -- it was incredible! And no apologies; part of the fun of these events, I've realized, is the joy of the surprise of turning a corner and seeing a familiar face...the catch being that sometimes the surprise happens and the least opportune moment. C'est la vie! :)

Hi Stephen! I am only 10 minutes into your podcast (and am enjoying YOU!), but it seems that you've conflated the NY Sheep and Wool event with the Wool & Folk event. These are not the same event. Wool & Folk was a disaster this year, but NY Sheep and Wool (usually called Rhinebeck) was not. There are several satellite events that occur around the time of the NY Sheep & Wool. First, there's CAKEpalooza, on Friday. Then there's Wool & Folk, also on Friday. Then there's Indie Untangled, also on Friday. These are 3 separate events, run by different organizations. NY Sheep & Wool (or Rhinebeck), is on Saturday and Sunday.
